I like how Christina talks about how she likes to play. That helps me understand her singing style. Yes, she has a lot “vocal dramatizations” and runs. But I get it. It’s good getting to know her as a singer and she expresses herself well.
As Christina's fan since 1999 I hope that she will understand at some point of her career, jazz, blues and soul are the genres whom fit the most with the way she sings and feel the song.
Yeah I think that’s why lotus and bionic didn’t do so well because she abandoned those elements that made stripped, back to basics and liberation such great albums. She’s an eclectic artist, I love that she plays with different genres but when she doesn’t incorporate jazz blues soul and rnb into different genres it gets a bit lost.
@@xxcarolxannexx Bionic didn't do well because there was a full-blown "I hate Christina" campaign going on at the time and Lady Gaga's record company did everything they could to undermine Christina and push LG. If anyone else had released Not Myself Tonight Your Body they would have probably been a lot more successful. The same happened to Mariah Carey in 2001 when they were trying to push J.Lo as the new "it girl". Nothing to do with Bionic or Lotus having less of an R'n'B sound considering R'n'B was way less popular at the top of the 10's ;)
Wait… What are we even talking about here? So you think that Christina doesn’t know that Blues, Soul & Jazz are the genres that suit her voice best, when…. Clearrrrrrrrrlyyyyy - Those are the genres that have literally had the most influence in the way she approaches her singing. What we as fans need to understand is that the music business is a business first. And unfortunetely in 2022 Blues, Soul and Jazz arent selling out Arenas. I think Christina will be singing into her 60’s and we will get that straight up Jazz album eventually.
This voice is golden. I still don't understand why she is still trapping it in that pop genre and doesn't make a blues/gazz album. Much like B2B, that will give justice to her voice.
seriously! Lady Gaga did that album with Tony Bennett, which was great. I'm sure she could get her label to finance a jazzy blues album. Would be great. Doubt it will happen though. She seems so stuck in pop
For those saying, she’s adding too many runs and it loses the melody of the song… did y’all not just here her say “FOR STAGE PURPOSES THIS IS HOW I SING IT.” This is not a recording of At last this is a PERFORMANCE of at last. She also said how much she loves to play with the structure of the song for the performance factor.
to me a really good performance is one that is better than a recording. and usually that is because i can feel the emotions in their voice and how they are telling a story. when she performs like this, it feels more like a show-off, even though she has nothing to proof. we all know she has amazing vocals.
I feel the same way her voice gives be goosebumps.I was at one of her shows on my 40th birthday and I was just talking to somebody saying how it would be nice for her to ask me up on stage and have her sing happy birthday well it didn’t happens but I did get a shout out from her say happy birthday and that made my night and her first season on the voice I was there and got to met her.
Christina, for me: I think you are the most GIFTED human being on the planet (universe) and your gift has come directly from the heavens!!!! I would love to see you in concert before it’s my time go. !! (Hopefully I have a long time) ❤👼🏼💕🥰❤️🩹🌟⭐️💫 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
One of the stylistic elements for Etta was coming in a tiny bit late on a phrase or note just behind the pocket and it gave the song a smoothness and a more casual feel. It's like she was breathing and contemplating the words just before she released them. It makes the story more conversational than just a "reading from a script" feel.
It is touching to see her accurate perception of other artists as well as her abundant god given talent and how meticulously professional she is. Such a joy to watch! 👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼💕🌹
No one beats the original. That's for sure. But Etta herself always loved Christina's version, which btw is inspired by Patti LaBelle's version of At Last. It's a much more melismatic approach.
@@jinx-1 oh wow. I went to check out Patti’s performance and I think you may be right. Patti killed it. It was fire. Christina is amazing. Beyoncé’s version is also amazing although Etta wasn’t a big fan of Beyoncé. But I still love Etta’s version best cos she gave life to the song and the emotion in her voice matches the lyrics of the song.
Many singers has gifted but why I personally like and love about@Christian Aguilera voice is that....I feel my soul freedomness when I listen her singing..it's like my soul flying every direction like touching the mountains rocks, plucking fruits, touching waters...touching blue skies etc....ohhh my soul!! Feel me!
I´m not tired of At Last, i can heard her singing it a million times, but i agree with you ill will be amazing that she will sing those songs specially Id rather go blind
I love how Xtina's critics are so invested in hating her. Here they are in a channel devoted to her leaving comments. Some of you have a lot of time in your hands 😂.
It's incredibly impressive to hear the depth of your work, Christina, and to see the collaboration between you and your musicians. What a beautiful synergy. I don't play music or sing, but I am in awe of the complexity here. So, so beautiful.
I have grown to love her so much. She has one of my favorite, most unique styles out there. She almost gives me chills when singing. Which is u usual for me.
I guess everyone here is a fan, but to me, listening to Etta James and then Christina, there is no comparison. Christina doesn't really have the sense, timing, tone or life experience to sing that song. It's like champagne and lambrini. Lambrini is fine, it tastes like wine, its fizzy, its sweet... but its nae champagne!
To me, she already sounds like aged wine compared to her younger age ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yFjSVVgAPkU.htmlsi=oRJl7AUhMARRRNg4 And I’m sure she’s getting greater
Why can’t she just sing the damn song? That is what has always kept me from being a big fan of hers. She has such a great voice, but ALWAYS oversings/ overdoes the song.
She is everything in person in concert and through the screen. I hope to see her more in concert in the future! Omg I feel honored to watch this clip of her teaching on my singing lesson journey!
Her first interpretation of this song on Men Strike Back was ridiculous... all of those aggravating runs and riffs on every single line made me dizzy and angry at the same time. It reminded me of the Simpsons episode where Bleeding Gums Murphy did a 30 minute rendition of the National Anthem with every kind of vocal adlib imaginable.
Agree. You don't really need to do a vocal showcase in every single song. Finally, she showed some restraint in her duet Say Something. I also hope she's an entirely different person than the image she presents of herself and her brand because she's ALLLLLL business in front of the camera.
I love how she embrace to soul jazz music because it’s tough to sing songs like that Etta James is deeply strong soulful in soul jazz genre. Beyoncé and Christina have their own style of singing this song it’s unique and embraceful.
I totally get how she likes to play with her vocal range, if you have such a wide one it only makes sense and imo sounds more interesting/unique. I'm not even a singer and like to experiment like that singing for fun lol
This was good. I have Christina’s previous masterclass. I would love to hear her sing this song gentle and I would to see a gentle singing album from Christina. Just something different where she doesn’t belt or over singing just simple with the bluezy runs and riffs.
My main take from this is that she should play around less. Her voice is extremely beautiful, but her “personal style” is too much. All of the dramatics is unnecessary when you’re this talented. There’s no reason to show off so much. She’s the embodiment of less is more. I’ve been a fan since her first album, and I always hoped that she would start to pull back as she matured, but it never happened, unfortunately. Love this video, though. I’m sad that I only started watching The Voice recently. I would’ve loved to see her as a coach. She’s extremely knowledgeable.
I love Christina but she misses the lesson on subtlety. All of these things she's talking about are specializing the song, but, truly, Etta let the song speak for itself. This allows you to lose yourself in the song. If all you hear are runs, stacked on top of runs, you miss the message.
Ok......voice! I never tire of hearing her. I agree that the second half of the video is like butter. Christina sounds best when she just plays with a song in a simplistic manner. Because we all know she can sing.
To many runs spoil a song and are simply not needed to convey a message. Etta James version is simple, to the point and full of emotion. To many of today's artists feel they have to prove their vocal ability to the point of being annoying. Celine Dion is a good example of this. She can't do a live performance without beating a song to death with unnecessary endless runs. Great singers such as Barbara Streisand and Shirley Bassey have such control they do not need long winded runs to impress the listener.
Have you heard some of Etta James' live versions? Please, she used just as many, if not more runs than Christina. There is a difference between what is recorded and how you perform something on stage.
@@AriyaaLaine Well that's a matter of personal taste. I personally love them. It's this old style that performers used to sing in on stage back in the days. It's the music Christina listened to as a child. So she's heavily influenced by it. I personally LOVE it, but I see how some think it's too much. I on the other hand get bored when singers don't do any runs or hardly any.
@@bluenick4577 Sure buddy. She's a respected singer who's always applauded for her amazing and accurate runs by her peers. But ok, random stranger on the internet who obviously knows nothing about music, let's not take you serious on this :)
Ok, Christina, you are so depressing me right now. Your talent is insane! You're smart, elegant, classy... you're making me feel so small... but at the same time, you're so inspired! Oh... Love to see you one day!
As always beautiful voice, but there are some songs that are better with one straight note held out..., the multiple runs up and down csn sometimes ruin a good song. The track she played earlier, the lady singer was spot on,, it's a smooth song.😊
Never seen anyone talk about singing in such a passionate & knowledgeable way, and obviously executed perfectly, she has so much control... I'm jelly :'( Lol
She technically has such an amazing voice, like crazy crazy good voice. But I don't like how she ab libs so much, like way too much. Etta's version will always be superior, because she sings it more simply, not all the ahs and ohs and extra bits that Xtina always adds in her songs. you lose the rhythm of the song , the pacing is off when she adlibs so much.
I prefer Beth Hart over both of them. The thing that really hurt Etta was that she would be visibly drunk or stoned on stage so the live performances were nowhere near as good as the studio version.
I love and adore Christina. Huge fan! Not sure I learned anything technical from this. Stylistic choices yes. This is more a master class in how to be a performer, not a vocalist.
Christina, your music is best when you use your own voice, which is one of the most fabulous in history. Don't copy people whose voices are not nearly as good as yours. You don't need to do that! Please! "Hurt" is an example of you using your own voice and creating one of the greatest songs in music history. “Lift Me Up” and “Lord, Have Mercy on Me” are two more examples of your other worldly talent! Etta's version is fine; it's one of my favorites. But you can do more with your voice and yours is by far the better voice, and you know it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The difference between a good singer and a great singer is that a good singer utilizes every part of a song to showcase their talent while a great singer utilizes every part of their talent to showcase the song. Christina is a good singer.
