Hm, some of the comments kinda bugged me. Firstly, Demi was singing the upper harmony thoughout the whole song(just because she is a soprano and Xtina is a mezzo), the whole chorus is written in E for Demi (F, after the key change), so she got tired and I didn't expect this to go so smoothly, since it was a TV debut. Plus the climax is extremely hard cuz the key change and everything else, which Demi would handle well, if she wasn't sick (I know this is what people usually say, but the day prior to the performance Demi did a livestream for Fabletics and sounded nasal and congested). Futhermore, this was the first live performance of the song, not really well rehearsed since Demi was touring, and it's kinda hard to keep up with Xtina since she's extra (not necessarily in a bad way) and doing all the riffs and runs. IMO both did great for the first time, so props to them!
Exactly! People didnt understand that xtina pretty much had the easiest parts in the song, and demi, although it was a bit pitchy.. ahe hit a Bb5 in a different area, props to her for trying the note again

Demi was nervous and it was very understandable, it was her first time to sing with her idol live... in the BBMAs! Nevertheless, iconic powerful duet! The technical errors made the performance perfect.

its not that demi was going past her limits...naturally demi can belt at a much higher range.....Christina is a mid belter where as Demi can access her entire range....its already crazy that she can hit those notes in studio where she can practice as much a she had to but here she sang live...she was a little pitchy but thats perfectly fine considering everything i just said..plus she was nervous as Christina is her idol and one of the reasons that got her into singing
Hmm.. Demi is indeed passing her limit. Her limit is at the A5 note. She has never sung a good live Bb5 note in her entire career. A Bb5 is just TOO high for her to sing it live. Instead, she should’ve sung a F5 to G5, peaking at a A5. She’s definitely not nervous. Demi sung Fall In Line at her OWN concert already. Look it up. Honestly, it didn’t really sound that much better than this performance. Tbh it sounded very mediocre. She didn’t sing any of the high notes. She dodged most of them. Christina keeping it at the mid-belt range proved to be very successful bc she sang most of her notes live. You should know that the mid-belt range is also where demi is at her most comfort. This is why I think demi should’ve rather gone for a F5 G5 and maybe A5 if she’s able to. Demi can’t really access her entire range just whenever she wants. Only on her very good days or whenever she’s really feeling it can she actually access her complete range at its fullest. I think this song would’ve been MUCH better if she lowered it down. At least to the point where she can sing it adequately live.
Yeah tbh that last part i agree abt it being lowered down but as heliton mathias said she was sick as well and i dont think that a Bb5 is too high for her ppl can train their voices to reach its absolute limit and i dont think a Bb5 is out of Demi range.....also Christina keeping it at a mid belt range is because out off the two demi voice is a bit brighter and higher than Christina who has a deeper and darker tone to it...and following up demi is touring rn so ofc her voice is gonna be tired and drained
+Dangerous WomanX 1.The tour performances were after BBMAs dumbass. This was their first perfomance of the song, and they should've rehearsed more. 2. She was visibly nervouse, since she was shaking in the end and her voice was pitchy (I literally thought she was gonna burst into tears at one point). Later on, she did it on tour (doing E5s in the climax and G#5s in the end, Idk what you head, but it's certainly not mediocre) 3. Demi can access her upper range whenever, she was touring for 3 months prior to the performance and every night hit majority of the notes (proving she knows how to preserve her voice) 4. I don't think her range necessarily ends at an A5. I just think she never truly learned how to mix well enough to go that high (even tho she did hit a couple of Bb5 unintentionally) 5. Lowering it down wouldn't have the same affect, at least I think so.
Demi was nervous af because yeah, she's gotta much higher part, which is normal for a soprano like her, but also because the song is really massive in meaning and for an artist like her, who grew up watching and looking up to Xtina, to be performing such a massive song next to her is just pretty nerve-wracking
Not to mention the NERVES, which were the biggest reason why Demi just gave up after failing the note and started screaming at the top of her lungs. Imagine standing next to your childhood idol and singing her song which YOU are featured on. I'm surprised she didn't pass out.
Okay you all read Demi being nervous and touring and whatnot. I am glad it happened in a way because now in her European tour, she's going for the note and probably the future too. And it forces her to kinda find better technique to approach that note with a coach. Btw, she sustained the A5 and hit the Bb5 in "Fall in Line" on tour already. Check it out

xtina is demi's idol then clearly she was so nervous to sing with her (u can see it when she starts to sing) and she was also sick i know she could do it more and the other lives of this song in her tour shows this. don't ever subestimate my girl. she's a powerhouse vocalist
I heard Demi said that she was on tour also when this happened and she already had sore vocal cords and she was saving her voice for her fans. That’s why her voice was not going as high as it could. If that’s true then good for her!!!
You guys do realize that demi is singing none stop she was singing in the first chorus also and she is touring and she is singing in a high key then Christia so when christina goes higher demi has to go higher this song is not meant to be sung live because the part written for demi is basically impossible to sing live because she is singing the whole time in a higher key

Xtina can’t even reach that high note and you want her to replace Demi for that? Demi should not try to sing like Xtina. She will damage her voice. Xtina has an exceptional voice while Demi has just a good voice. There is only so much her voice can handle. It clearly showed in this performance whenever she tried to hit notes like Xtina, she failed. Stop being mad over reality. Demi is a good singer and she should not copy Xtina's style. Her voice cannot handle all of that.

Aniline dye nah she was having pitch problems even on her first falsetto notes which wasn’t high she cracked a wee bit. She looked very anxious tbh especially near the end she was very unsure of herself. Seen her perform better tho

Demi is a soprano whereas Christina is a mezzo-soprano, and just for that It would be impossible for Christina to do that. Besides, Christina's voice has aged a lot so her range is less wide than It was before. Demi was singing with her idol and she was obviously really emotional. Besides, she has never sustained a belt up to a Bb5 so she tried (after belting E5's and F5's throughout the entire song) , give her that and stop it. You should appreciate one of the best new vocalist!

Secondly, I’ve seen Demi live and I know for a fact that she can belt those notes for a FEW SECONDS at a time. However, it’s the tessitura of her part that makes it sound limited so SWITCHING with xina’s part would’ve been a smarter move.

I think you guys are being a little basis when it comes Christnia. There are a lot of factors people need to take into when it comes to this performance before you can go and say on demi is no Christina. One go watch musical wheel on Jimmy Fallon where demi recreactes Christians voice. Two demi was sick this day, plus she was in the middle of her own tour. Third demi's parts in this song are crazy hard and very few singers would be able to do that including Christina. And fourthly they only had time to rehearse it once cuz of demi touring right now. And five demi is 11 years younger then Christina, Christina had a whole decade more then demi to develop her voice and style of singing. Just imagine demi in 10 years from now if she can do what she can do now and even you can't say demi isn't good and doesn't have a powerful voice. Even Christina herself has had bad performances and to be honest this wasn't that bad if your not a hate and being basis.
