Christina was really a joy to watch. Nelson introduced me to her classiness, awesome giggle, and her kind personality. So happy Nelson was her friend. I love them both.
It’s the little things about Nelson like when he orders his oatmeal with raisins and walnuts and says “cafe con leche” instead of coffee with milk. Those little things made him special.
Loved Nelson! His caring for Christina was so special. His interractions with her are precious. Christina was someone I'm fascinated with. Thank you, Nelson, for being the great videograoher that you were...
I finally figured out who Nelson reminds me of - Mr Rogers! Nelson’s ability to be kind and encouraging and accepting of everyone plus his drawl is so inviting and relaxing
I get so many chills watching these videos. Its crazy how even though I wasn't even 2 years old when this was filmed, when I watch it, I still feel the same vibe as I do now as a 30 year old adult when I go out in the city. It goes to show that, sure, a lot has changed in NYC...but in its core, it will always be the same, cooky little town! I love my city.😊
@@whoareyoutoaccuseme Mmmmm-hmmm. It's forever ironic that many of the people around there will always tell legends about the colorful people and the brilliant insanity from back then, but like it's always been, those whose legends survive longest died penniless and only earn respect _after_ they're gone.
Christina is such a nice lady. To bad the drugs took over her. I used to hang with folks like this back in the 80s even though I was the straight one. Used to get so much hate from regular people who could not understand why I wanted to hang out with a fun group of people.
These vlogs are so awesome! I was probably only a couple years old at this time. It is so cool to see the 80s from this point of view. Thank you very much for the opportunity to view the past in this way. Nelson was such an amazing man.
I prefer Nelson’s recording from back in the day to anyone in this day & age hands down! I would of loved to of met him, he seems like such an interesting person! 💕😍💕
Crazy how they are talking about Aretha Franklin! She just died the other day.. I swear! some of these videos Nelson did the things he says in them in the 80's is relevant with what's going on in 2018! Trippy shit!
Just the other day he got mad at Michael Alig and called him Trash..which everyone knows all the cool kids are using that word to show displeasure..just like Nelson did.
I wish Nelson was portrayed in the Party Monster movie. Hanging with Christine or something..lol;) Actually these guys, by themselves, would make an awesome movie! 🤩
I think the German accent was to help her when in public. She really seemed to amp it up with the waiter. So as if most people would be like "oh she's German... that explains it"
She was truly genius and ahead of her time. A troubled soul that just wanted to be love and accepted. So happy to see the loving relationship between her and Nelson.
Yes they were being phony and standoffish, considering Nelson helped put the Club Kid scene on the map, most of the kids themselves were entirely ungrateful, borderline fed up whenever he stuck a camera in their face. Extremely disrespectful but hey, what was the 80s other than self-obsessed greed and narcissistic hedonism.
It also extended to shade being thrown Christina's way. People laughed, mocked and verged on borderline bullying her coz she really was so sooooo strung out she wouldn't have noticed. So much jealousy also, but I think herself and Nelson just got each other and his deadpan form of grieving her showed us that he lost his prodigy and with that his zest for future endeavours which, mainly would've featured Christina and yes it was the pinnacle of people who were moulding the times, but decaying into mould themselves,
You have to remember it was a different time, no one was walking around with camera phones like today and making videos of each other constantly, at the time it probably felt strange and intrusive to some of those being filmed, Nelson was so far ahead of his time, it’s amazing though as now it fits so perfectly and we’re so lucky to get these “vlogs” and be able to step back in time and relive these moments with him, a snapshot of New York in the late 80’s, he became so adept at filming but it also makes me feel quite depressed at times to think both he and Christina died soon after this and only a month apart, neither of them knew their demise was so close, it’s so sad, but it makes these videos seem even more special, as they never get to leave the 80’s, they are captured forever here in it, never getting older, so they remain forever, icons of scene gone by.
@@athandog musto couldnt tell the truth if he knew it. He demands that he doesnt really know Nelson, or any of these people. The videos prove that was a lie!
+Lawrence C Andy Anderson and the fellow he was keeping company with around the time of Christina's death were very good to her, I've heard, but Andy was good to everybody..
If you looked at her birthday party, almost all guest were making fun of her. Making rude joke, trying to play tricks, and smashing her bday cake in her face and on the floor. It really was a sad party.
Was at Florent one late late night, we had gone to the World... A guy comes in walking around with a couple of Keith Haring masks he's trying to sell for 250$ a piece. Goddamit no ATM around. Most likely stolen from Keith anyways. Magical Times!
Finally, the tv channel FX is showing a documentary of Nelson’s video of the 🏳️🌈 gay pride parade back in mid to late 80’s it’s coming on sometime this week of May 10th 2021 Check your local listings!!!
Wondering if Nelson gave up drink to stay balanced for his camera an gave up smoking cigarettes because he only had two hands.smokers like to smoke in the most comfy way,to keep putting drinks etc. down to pick up your smoke is annoying besides the smoke burns away . All for his dedication to his filming . He was such a debonair character, and so much mutual love and mutual respect between him and his loved ones.
Good lord, if there was ever a grossly underrated genius, it was Christina Superstar. Anybody who can walk up to strangers (often obvious tourists) cradling a newborn doll, proclaim in her bizarre faux-German accent that "I've just had a baby and I'm already sick to death of it!" throw the doll down, stomp its head viciously, and strike a triumphant pose with one of her signature "OH's" (like the one at 4:27) and a broken cigarette in her mouth is a special kind of demented brilliance.
Johns dad died of a heart attack at a young age. I believe it was genetic. Cause his uncle Freds son was in his early 50swhen he died of a heart attack as well.
@@rembrandtvanleidse Nah, that is not true, and no one has any proof of that. He died young from a heart attack. There was a history in his family of that.
2020 - This Place could service maybe 4 people 6ft apart in Social Distancing World? & Who the heck needs a pair of SunGlasses at Night? Let alone TWO! Lol. They're great friends just out shootin' the shi......all. night. long. Fun. The music? What in the World? It's outta This World. And, enough to make you 1/2 crazy.
I've watched several of these videos and have yet to see them have anything resembling a conversation. They both seem to be too self-indulgent to actually listen to the other one and respond to what the other was feeling or saying.
I think Christina is just in her own little world and Nelson is just trying to relate to her as much as possible. He makes a point to keep her company though. I appreciate that.
She was found dead in her apartment (had been there for a few days like that). Speculation was heroin overdose but according to Michael Alig (who commented on another video a few years ago) Christina supposedly never did drugs, only drank gin or vodka.
I love watching these videos, I just can't get enough. I feel sad that this beautiful man surrounded himself with all these mentally ill people. The only normal presence in his life was Blackout. I lived in New York in the 80's, but I lived in Murray Hill area. I still don't 'get' these types of folks. But to each his own.
@@emilyk9074 do u really think so she just seems a bit out of it to be honest ill need to rewatch the video i have not seen it in a few month but i did not see her as that
@@kevsDVDS yeah there’s an interview online from Christina’s ex girlfriend from before she moved to NY, she says that Christina had suffered w schizophrenia most her life and at this point she was no longer on medication :(
Now I see why so many people got the covid 19 in NewYork. Thanks to Nelson because I’ve never been there all the places are so small and crowded. Even the apts.. I notice you gotta squeeze in everywhere there even the clubs.. Definitely a place your going to know the person besides you pretty well.
It used to be awesome if and only if you were a smoker! I was, and I remember when I visited California once in probably as late as 2000/2001 and was told it was illegal to smoke in bars there. I remember incredulously going outside to smoke during some big Mike Tyson fight and grumbling about California's law being the worst "fad" ever. I was sure it would never last, and that it could NEVER spread to NY, haha! [THANK GOODNESS IT WAS NOT A FAD.]
