I've seen several comments stating things like..: " i don't see how this can be the real audio, they locked the tape up, the tape is not available. What most people don't realize is at this time (around 1974) many people would put a microphone by there TV speaker and record the audio of programs, (soap operas, your favorite sitcom, the NEWS) to listen to at a later date. i know, because i used to do it, and many people i knew at the time, did the same thing. I would take an educated guess that someone was going to be out of the house for a while, but wanted to catch the local NEWS, so they put a new tape in the recorder, pushed the Red Button, and left the house. and had quite a surprise when they listened to the playback, after hearing what happened live during their local News.
Oh wow! I had no idea that people did this, but it makes sense. It’s what we did in later times with vhs tapes. My family used to have loads of tapes from recording programs.💖
There's a very good chance this is fake, I just watched the movie, Christine, recently and then unrelatedly recently read about Roger Ebert using CereProc voice, which incorporates technology using pre-recordings of his voice, which could very well have been done with this as there are existing recordings of her other newscasts. The fact that the audio would be with the tape, which has not been released. The odds of anyone in that local area wanting to tape record this morning news cast from a B grade local channel, not even an affiliate of the Big Three, from what I understand.
This is 100% her. I’ve been watching her other interviews, she has a slightly paused speech. Like pauses briefly in between words, this is literally her voice. This has to be real audio. Chilling.
I picked up on that also. She had a very specific style when she spoke and delivered her segments. There are very skilled actresses, but not that skilled. I was very skeptical at first, but I’m certain it’s authentic.💖
@@JadeExplainsDeath anyone skilled in voice software can imitate her speech pattern. There are ppl that are so good with computer animation/voice reproduction they can reproduce ANYONEs speech patterns. It's not impossible. Especially with today's technology. Someone did the same thing w the Timothy Treadwell audio. If you didn't know, it sounds 100% authentic.
@@meghanmisaliar Are you serious? This happened in 1974. What are you smoking? I want some. It seems good and strong. Are you seriously this naive to think there was software to mimick voice patterns back then? Wow
I'm an Australian, born in 1975 & have only just stumbled upon this story. Incredibly sad to say the least. I know all too well about severe depression & just looking at her I can see how sad her eyes are, breaks my heart. I hope Christine is at peace now.
So strange that she said “attempted suicide” and not just “suicide”… almost like she thought it wouldn’t work or maybe hoped? Very sad. Definitely something very mentally wrong when you want a lot of people to see that and have that trauma…
After hearing the audio, I feel as if she was an extremely lonely woman. She sees people in relationships and it furthers her depression because the person she liked was unavailable, involved with a coworker. The news about her fertility just further depressed her. She threw the party but most people who attended didn't realize she was saying goodbye because they all thought her remarks about committing suicide were her attempts at dark humor. Nobody actually cared to make sure she was ok. It is said that she didn't react well when people tried getting close to her. I can't imagine why...SMH. The fact that she was a reporter of the "blood and guts news" and she called it, made her realize that when someone dies, that's when they're in the headlines. So this lonely depressed woman wrote what she thought would be an "attempted" suicide into the broadcast thinking she would survive and people would care about her. Unfortunately, she died and people only realized after her death just how much she was hurting.
Yeah that’s why I hate humanity. No one cares about anyone or anything until it affects them directly. They were happy enough to ignore her & her troubles until she did something that couldn’t be ignored.
@@Marryjanesbud but Her love interest knew she was hurting and tried to help but it backfired deepening her spiraling towards taking her own life. That said he had know idea bad And horrible dark place her head was at the time to commit suicide but i see your point.
Her eyes look lifeless in that first video. Poor lady, depression is a very real illness. I dont know if that audio is real but sounds it. Be kind all.
Also, reporting about "blood, guts, and gore" can be extremely toxic. Christine must have had a toxic life as a reporter. If I were in her shoes, I would have QUIT as a reporter.
Years ago, I came back into my room as the last part of a segment on suicide by the local TV station ended playing. The very last part featured a collage of faces of people who had committed suicide, among whom I recognized Iris Chang. I was startled to learn that Iris had committed suicide (this was around 2004). It was looking up info into Iris' suicide that I learned about Christine.
I never thought any audio or video of this would ever surface, so this is really surprising. I remember reading that she used to do some kind of hand puppet thing occasionally on air (no, seriously!) and that she hid the gun in her bag of puppets, so no one would think it odd that she had a bag near her. I had thought there was a beat or two between her "attempted suicide" line and the gunshot as she pulled out the gun, but I guess not.
She just had enough, I can really understand her, you get to a point where living is just mundane and boring and you fell it is just way past your bedtime, you want out.
As a hobby audio engineer & archivist of old analog footage, I can confidently say I'm sure this is real, the analog artefacts are impossible to be replicated this well, you'd have to put your AI generated / fan-made video onto an actual cassette or VHS to fake this - the master tape might be locked up, but this was still broadcast live and people used to record all kinds of broadcasts with their video cassette recorders all the time. This is definitely not the sound ripped directly from the broadcast though judging by the way the audio is clipping and the amount of reverb, but it is an audio recording of the speaker output. The "ah" right after the shot doesn't come from the video (since it is not clipping and sounds way closer to the mic) so whoever recorded this, 100% owns a copy of the tape. edit: this was recorded before VHS came around, so it has to be a sony u-matic tape - either that, or the taper recorded this on cassette while watching it live (which makes significantly less sense)
I’m surprised at how quick the shot came after saying that, I’m glad that I can’t see the footage bc I saw the R Budd Dwyer one and it freaked me tf out 😮
The R Budd Dwyer video is so disturbing! I remember seeing it years ago and it has never left my brain!😳 I was really surprised at how fast she pulled the trigger too. I wonder if she was trying to keep anyone from having time to stop her. 💖
There is a strange hesitation I notice in her speech, of pauses between words. I noticed this in another video clip of her as well. I do think speech habits like this are indicative of possibly trauma of some kind, maybe even brain injury. I wonder if there was any source of trauma in her childhood or later
I was thinking brain tumor. I wonder if they autopsy many suicides to gather data or possible trends in brain composition or other similarities. There has to be something that makes people do this.
It is so haunting. When I heard it for the first time I was shocked by how quickly she pulls the trigger. I wish that she would have been able to get the right kind of help. It’s still so hard to find good help, but it was worse then.😢
@@yaboiblock You could be right. I would expect anyone in the studio to have yelled or reacted in some way the moment they saw the gun. Then again (going only from the audio), she may have drawn the gun and fired too quickly for anyone to react. Without the full footage there's no way of knowing for sure.
I’m really not sure. Witnesses said she pulled it out, like possibly from a drawer. Very few have ever seen the actual incident. I wonder if she did it quickly so that nobody could try and stop her. I was shocked at how fast the bang happened.💖
@JadeExplainsDeath I'm also suspecting that she did it immediately so nobody could have time to realize what was happening, because chances are if she took two seconds longer somebody would have been able to act fast. I'm betting she had her hand on the gun hidden in her bag under the desk where nobody could see it.
The only local story she reports on is , a shooting the previous day at the Beef and Bottle Restaurant at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport. When the film for the story wouldn’t come up, Chubbuck started her ad-lib. “In keeping with Channel 40’s policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts and in living color, we bring you another first, an attempted suicide.”
Just goes to show that help is out there. Sad and tragic at the same time the way Christine took her life. I became interested in this because of the year 1974 Yeah I was born when Christine died Sad but true RIP Christine
Can anyone provide the source for this audio? Something this extraordinarily rare and outre definitely demands some extraordinary proof for it's authenticity. Who uploaded it originally? How did they get it? Does the family know this audio is floating around out in public now?
@@joeybaseball7352 Gee, that really settles it for me. Let's go over what I asked, What/Who is the source, Who Uploaded it originally, How id they get it, Does the family know about this? Your comment - "It's real" Can you see how that doesn't really answer any of my questions? And that just some other guy on RU-vid saying "It's real" isn't a legitimate source? Are you the one who recorded it, uploaded it, related to the family? Again, Can ANYONE ELSE confirm the authenticity of this recording?
@@stephendoriankutos4429jokes aside, u can see in the lost media wiki that the guy who found it is apparently someone called Ataliste, but thats all I know
@@stephendoriankutos4429it’s real. The family made the original uploader take it down and there had been talks of law being involved because of it on a lost media website. no idea how these ones are still up, but this is definitely the real audio that someone cassette recorded.
Didn't they lock up the tape with the actual audio? Like the guy who loved bears and was devoured by one, the audio is only a recreation of the real thing?
I had thought the same. I had serious doubts that this is legit, but it sounds like her voice which is a little deep and kind of unique. I am really thinking that someone leaked the audio.
Apparently a private collector used to record audio tapes of Newswatch to listen to again later, and the collection ended up in the hands of someone that uploaded it to RU-vid. As for the actual video, there was a recreation a couple years back, but it's still locked up at the moment (although the recreation did initially fool some folks)
@@Everything_60 his widow has said that the audio has never been played without headphones. Verner from the documentary said that she just burn it because it was too graphic. She's never let it be released and the audio we here is a recreation of what it might have sounded like.
Interesting that she mentions north port in that earlier clip. My grandparents lived in north port and I used to visit every year during February break as a kid. It was one of my favorite places on earth. Going down there was one of those things that you looked forward to all year and when it finally happened, it was the greatest thing ever…looking at the light blue water from the air, seeing palm trees as the plane landed then walking out and it was 50 degrees warmer than 3 hours ago at home, my grandparents waiting there in *summer clothes* . It was as close to a real life magic trick as I ever experienced…
To my knowledge they did not destroy it. If I remember the story the police Chief kept the original recording in his possession, but then when she died his wife for the recording under some Law Firm so it the recording could never make it to the public. I may be thinking of another case but to my knowledge that's where it is. Edit: it wasn't the police chief who kept it, it was the manager of the TV station where the incident happened.
@@WhatsDaveUpTo You're very lucky because nowadays you can only find the audio and some recreations but the original one is pretty much lost without possibility of the owners sharing it.
This was a year before Network came out with Howard Beale's "on air suicide" rant. One point of that film is that TV is unreality. Maybe Christine got caught up in that and the writer Paddy Chayefsky obviously heard the story and wrote the script accordingly.
It’s not from the film. I have seen it and even pulled up the scene on here to make sure. I was honestly the biggest skeptic that this was real, but it sounds just like her. Even down to her pauses and tone.💖
It’s not the movie but it’s not real either. The reports say she paused and pulled the gun out then pointed it behind her ear. This shot was too quick and no pause. Someone likely recreated her voice.
It matches pretty closely except the contemporary reports state that she drew the gun after she said her last words, but the gunshot goes off almost immediately after she finishes her last word so I don't think she would of had time to draw a gun and pull the trigger in that time.
There were many beautiful girls/women in that generation. A lot looked like models. Even though she would be considered above average now, back then I could see how she would have just blended into the background.
I was honestly so skeptical about the authenticity myself, but once I heard it, I became convinced. It sounds like her voice. She had a very unique way of speaking in her news reports and to me, it matches.💖
VCR's existed at the time but were very expensive and rare. Audio recording was common, and they used to broadcast TV audio on AM/FM radio, so you could listen to shows and stuff that were on certain TV channels. I would not be surprised if multiple people happened to record the live audio
She really was attractive to me also but what good is it if she self sabotage from relationships, mentally ill and socially awkward where men even if they want no real relationship but sex , can’t even get that from her because she so repellent of people. She cant or won’t let anyone in physically or emotionally.
She died, the family deserved to destroy it. She killed herself and it was in that tape. I wouldn’t want to preserve footage of my family member being killed.
@@goldfishbelike It was said the audio was magically given by a "collector of sorts" who might be the one that own the actual recording despite it being locked up in a film storage of sorts, however it appeared is mysterious yet the audio is still horrifying yet depressing, even if this is informational I do feel for her
It was released a few years ago by someone anonymous. I really had serious doubts that it’s authentic, but it really sounds like her. Her voice was pretty unique. I have the police report which does have the transcript of the tape taken into evidence that day. It matches up perfectly. I am very curious who allegedly leaked this audio.❤️
@@ImNothing.24 Someone apparently had the habit of audiorecording the news to listen to later, the recording ended up in someone's hands who leaked it. The video is impossible to see since it's been locked away by people with no intention of ever releasing it
This goes to show you that security checks were non existant with checking Identification and what is bought onsite. If checks were carried out, this event would not have occured.
Assuming this audio is legitimate This proves that the black and white clip is fake. And no it's not fake because of the quality as many claim. Those are usually younger people that say that. If you're old enough to have had a VCR you know that the tape to grades and you get exactly the quality problems that the black and white clip has. The proof that it's fake is if this audio is real it doesn't match the clip. In the black and white clip she just says you're going to see an attempted suicide. Here she says brought to you in living color first attempting suicide.
She allegedly had a crush on her coworker who did not return the feelings. It’s hard to say if this was actually true. People who knew her described her as socially awkward and that she had a hard time fitting in.💖
So this video was put on RU-vid years ago many many years ago like back when you two just started and they didn’t police things like they did now. I saw it back then this is the real audio. She was pulling the gun out of. I think it was like an envelope. But when she pulled the gun out, I close my eyes cause I couldn’t watch that.
According to the audio recording, it seems that the pistol bullet suddenly boycotted her while she was consistent with her words and focused on her work Perhaps she received a pistol from her colleague or director to re -represent the scene of the suicide of that young man Without her knowledge that the pistol had bullets
That's actually a really interesting point of view. Honestly, that could have had a lot to do with it. When you're around dark stories like that all the time, I can't imagine it not having a negative effect on a person. I'm at the tail end of getting an MS in forensic psychology and had a frightening meltdown a month ago that came from a case I had to study for class. That's when I realized I need to graduate and be done with the field because I can't handle it emotionally; it was driving me to anxiety and depression.
It was clear she was disturbed by how awful life is and she saw no point in going on. At least we can take away that she's in a better place now, free from this nightmare we call life.
Bro wtf? Why did ahe do this? I am not happy about this. She had more time to live. Why did ahe do that when she had a good job and such potential to live a life for abother 40 years in peace and aee things. She was obviously sick no doubt but at least do a vunch of good drugs lady, and party hard for a while. She could have partied till ahe died. I think she missed and excellent opportunity. Not cool. Not cool at all.
this is not the audio, the family hired a law firm to hold the real tape and to never release the tape/ audio. there was 2 tapes but the producer held that tape but then he destroyed one and i believe he passed away. once he did , his wife gave the 2nd tape the Chubbuck's which then they would give to the law firm to hold and never release it. so any audio or footage that is out there is not real one bit at all. you people should not expect to hear or see the audio at all.
We will likely never know for sure, but she struggled with her mental health since she was a teenager. She probably just really needed help. In the 70’s, mental health was not taken very seriously unfortunately. It’s still not great, but it was worse then.💖
Suicide is ultimately a selfish act in anger. Even when the person has suffered or in emotional pain for various reasons. Study the psychology of suicide a little. Especially to do it so publicly. This was in 1974 and she thought that news was bad then. She would have lost her mind in these times.
She did struggle with her mental health throughout her life. We will never know exactly why she did it, but I think she needed help. Help was not readily available at that time. It still isn’t, but it was even worse in the 70’s.💖
