My father was a Marine Engineer and the first Christmas I spent with him was when I was 6. The second was when I was 15. If it was possible he would call us via the radio telephone but it wasn't often possible. I wish for your whole crew a day of Peace and calm seas. Merry Christmas
@@nikolaslavov3498 I can tell you from my personal experience. My father was a seaman even before I was born. So sad that I can't remember Christmas memories with him. Now that I'm a parent myself, I can feel how emotionally hard it must have been for my mom and dad especially during this time of the year. Salute to all you guys who chose this profession. Merry Christmas!
@@Plecosauga and they don't really make money like you would think I talked to a deck hand on a bulk carrier and he told me they only make around 20K a year
@@anagray7521 It varies. Ordinary seaman don't make a lot. As I heard the newest recruit or apprentice only have a stipend starting at 200 US dollars a month and those with experience have salary ranging from 800 to 2K dollars a month. It is the officers who makes relatively good income. A captain or chief makes between 7K to 10K per month depending on the company and tonnage of the ship and his country of origin. For some reason shipping lines negotiates with recruiting agencies for lesser pay for seamen from third countries. For people from third world countries it's mostly for the money that they do the job despite being away from family. For people from advance countries it's mostly for the love of the sea since they have more options for a lucrative career and yet they chose to be at sea.
@@ambrosiobertodazo at least they are finding a honest way to make money o know 3rd world countries and socialist countries always have a high crime rate and there is usually good money to be made by commiting various crimes
Always remember enjoy what ever your ever your doing . I was a firefighter EMT-A for 5 years and a policeman for 22 ..shifts were 24 hr, 22 and 10. So a sit down meal out of my cruiser was a big deal In a Dennys or a Cafe. 45 minutes of quiet. When possible I'd go into a church for some of midnight mass.
Merry Christmas to you, Chief. Thanks for all your informative and thought-provoking input this year. It's been more than 40 years since I spent Christmas at sea (though luckily we were in port so a good time was had by nearly all!). Please buy the crew a beer on me.
Remarkable to think about all the professional seafarers out there working over the Christmas holidays as well as all other major religious holidays. Thank you, seriously. Thank you.
Merry Christmas! Thank you for the beautiful moments you give us. I wish you all the best and the traditional seafaring greeting "Good wind from the stern!"
Thanks Chief. This was an uplifting video. I think most people do not realize what it takes to make this world so great. It takes hard work and dedication by people like you. In 1972 I was stationed on Guam in the USAF for a 4 month deployment. On Christmas Day I decided to walk along one of the beautiful beaches alone. While walking a voice called out from the edge of the vegetation. It was a USAF chaplain…a Catholic priest I had come to know named Father Dan. He was sitting at the edge of the jungle by a fire along side several Filipino workers who were roasting some pork. They invited me to sit with them and have lunch. This memory has stayed with me ever since. A Christmas sitting on the beach with some Filipino friends sharing a meal. Filipino workers did much of the skilled work on the island of Guam. They are a proud people.
Mary Christmas to all of you that you give your best providing all of us with goods. Keep safe. Hope that next year you will be with your beloved ones.
Spent a lot of holidays on duty as a firefighter/EMT... At least I wasn't on the other side of the world like you guys are. Merry Christmas and stay safe !!!!!!!
Thank you for all your wonderful videos throughout the year and thank you and the crew for providing all of us with the stuff that keeps our lives going keeps us safe and keeps us comfortable. Merry Christmas to you and the crew and I hope the new year brings all of you your heart's desires I hope your families have a wonderful Christmas even though you are away Merry Christmas.
As a former Marine Engineer (mid 1970's / early 1980's) I wish you and your family as well as all the crew onboard Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for all your videos which always remind me of my active time onboard of cargo ships.
That was so touching Chief. You really produced an emotionally moving video. Loved the music and the images. Let us hope next year you are with your family during the Holiday season.
Thanks for posting. You might have heard that the European Union asked some serious questions about the level and upkeeping of the level of Philipine seafaring officers. Seeing how you work in so many videos made me wonder why they thought this. So I was relieved to just now I heard on Dutch radio an interview with a representative of the Dutch Marine Organization, who stated that if there were a problem whatsoever, things have been straightened out. She added that Philippino seafarers are very important both to Europe and specificaly for the Netherlands.
Merry Christmas Chief and crew !!! I discovered your channel about a year ago when I watched your video about the Evergreen ship getting stuck in the Suez Canal and I've been hooked ever since. Your videography, narration, and knowledge is top notch and make every video interesting to watch.
Merry Christmas, Chief. May your next Christmas be at home with your family. May your voyages be safe and your crew lively. I wish you fair winds and following seas.
Rance here. Merry Christmas to you and the crew aboard ship, a special Merry Christmas to all of the families who are separated from their loved ones because of the work they do. Thank you all!
Merry Christmas to all your staff, your family and you Chief Makoi. Every video you post on RU-vid is a Christmas present for all of us all around the world. Thank you very much for your big 💓!
Back at ya chief As a long haul truck driver i spent many Christmases and other holidays not at home . In some ways our two careers in life have similarities this being one of them . In light of this i wish you and all of your crew a good Christmas and a good new year .
Chief, three things a bit late. Thanks for sharing your Christmas with us and what a blessing it is to see you guys all having a good meal and remembering God's role in all of this. Two, I love how you guys are such engineers that you decided you had to do a test run of your Christmas and New Year's feast and make sure you got it right. Excellent work. 3, I love getting to see all the members of your team has real people and at least from your videos it looks like you are on a happy ship. May God bless you and your team throughout this coming year. I look forward to getting more content from you. Thanks again.
Thanks: Merry Christmas to you Chief…and your family and the crew. I always look forward to watching your videos. A Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year to you and the crew! - Joe
Good morning, chief! Happy holidays to you, your family, friends, and crew!. This morning finds me working a midnight shift loading the Strategic Entity. Last week we worked the Strategic Explorer. Yesterday morning, I took 3 dozen Dunkin Donuts to the gangway of the Entity and told them they were courtesy of Chief Makoi!
@@ChiefMAKOi The Tennacity was here in April, if you're ever back this way let me know ahead of time and I'll take a car load of you guys to Philly, Washington, or NYC. Battleship New Jersey, Cruiser Olympia, and the USS Becuna are also in Philly. edit: What would you say is the most important thing that seafarers often run out of, or that seafarers would just really enjoy having? I like to surprise a crew every once in a while, because they don't get to come ashore often and being confined for a long period of time can be isolating.
Merry Christmas to you and the crew. Glad to see your spirits are high and enjoying each other's company. Just let them and you know we appreciate the work and sacrifice you make. All the best mate
Thank you for your hard work, if it wasn’t for you and your crew this world would have so much less to celebrate. Merry Christmas to you and all the hard working people like yourself, may God bless you all.
Merry Christmas Mako and your team. I did time at sea as an engineer but didn't spend Christmas away but I can imagine it being hard away from families and friends. Sea going in my days was watches 24 - 7 with now auto systems but I enjoyed it. Cheers Ian. New Zealand
Merry Christmas to you guys out there in the ocean thank you for all the hard work you do for the world and delivering goods God bless and safe sailing
When I began my flight career, I had to be gone on trips every single holiday. Turns out that's when everyone wants to fly and the most senior crews don't want to work those days. Thankfully, those days are gone for me, but I understand the feeling completely. Merry Christmas, Chief and crew. Get home safe!
Although, my maritime experience was near coastal and no more than 60 miles for short periods of time, two absolute requirements became evident. Don't fu*k with the food and pay. Tasty and nourishing food consistently; the correct pay per the contract paid on time or issues resolved promptly. If these two basic issues are met, and there is competant supervision, the crew will remain loyal and productive. Merry Christmas 🎅 Chief and to the rest of the crew.
Merry Christmas one and all. My wife and I do not have any children so as an airline pilot I always was available to fly Christmas and graduation season. My dad work kept him away some Christmases, so I always tried to help out the family guys. God bless you and the crew on this special day.
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and impressions. Guess what… this morning when I woke up I asked myself where you might be these days and if you will be able to celebrate a bit. All the best to you and your crew dear Chief. Merry Christmas from Germany.
Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Joyeux noël to you Chief and the Crew. It's always a great pleasure to watch your videos and I hope for many more. So have a wonderful Christmas Time and a safe journey in to the new year. Frohe Weihnachten from Germany.🎄🌟🎄🌟🎄🌟🎄🌟🎄🌟🎄
You made me all teary eyed as I. a Canadian has spent my past 17 years in the Philippines with my wife , son and our extended family. I am sending love and good cheer to all you hard working seafarers who must make this sacrifice to transport our goods to our ports of call. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you Chief and all your seafaring mates!
Merry Christmas Chief. As I sit here in the Colorado mountains, far from the sea, my thoughts and prayers are with the fine seafarers like yourself whose commitment keep all of us supplied and fed. You bring such a Peace and Patience to the world through your videos. I treasure both the content (I'm an engineer and find it fascinating) and the sense of comfort you bring. Bless you.
