Just recently found your videos and I’m binge watching on this cold snowy day here in New York while I work on my cross stitch project! Love your tutorials! Even tho some projects I’m already familiar with I have still picked up some tips and tricks for doing things! Thank you so much for your contributions to our stitching community!

Thank you so much for your kind words Carolyn! I surely do appreciate that. And I'm really happy that you can find some new nuggets in videos about familiar projects. I think of myself as that neighbor friend who invites you over for some tea and sewing and then I share my methods while we spend time together. It's a little bit project tutorial and a little bit pep talk. Because who couldn't use a little bit of a pep talk?

I don’t wear a mask because I like it, I wear it to protect myself but also for respect and consideration of others. Such a small gesture to feel you are helping the cause. I’m in Toronto Canada, here is mandatory for any indoor activity like shopping, doctor etc. I miss Joanne’s.. we used to go to Buffalo a few times a year and do Walden Galleria and always Joanne’s and Hobby Lobby. Wishing you a good, safe and peaceful weeks ahead.
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
I wear it as required. I'm not debating the efficacy of it. I'm not an expert and there are many articles of the pluses and minuses of them. My personal opinion is that I dislike them. And they told us in the beginning they were useless and not recommended. Then they decided everyone needed them. So who knows what the truth is. I've seen reports that the infection rate is actually higher in people wearing them then not. So I don't know what to believe. I will be glad when we don't need them anymore. I do not like seeing people covered up in them. It gives me the creeps, to be honest. So I pray this phase is over soon. I would prefer to not turn this into a political debate over mask wearing. This channel is not about politics.Thank you. I have enjoyed shopping in person and I'm hoping we get some sort of Christmas this year. The trees are up in Home Depot and they were so cheerful. And yes, to having safety and peace again. I'm ready for normal life to come back.

Looking forward to more of your viedos,working on a log cabin runner,while watching you now. Stat safe and well. And yes, it truly is a scary,weird time. You're welcome Bunny! I am careful, because in this highly charged atmosphere, I hesitate to say anything. But that doesn't feel honest or authentic. I think we are all scared of many things right now, but staying positive is important to cope with it. And sharing pretty fabrics and talking about normal things like Christmas sewing and project planning is a good way to find a slice of normalcy. Your runner sounds lovely! I am working of videos and projects for the whole season, and I do hope people will enjoy them. Thanks for you kind comment.

I was the Craft specialist when we had a JoAnns in Texarkana. Boy do I miss those days but I still have a big container of Christmas fabrics and a couple of other containers with other fabrics. Now for local there is Hobby Lobby and WalMart. I might have to take a trip down to Bossier and visit JoAnns this week while I'm on vacation because your videos are making me want to get to sewing again. :) I love enablers.

Hi Patty! I enjoyed looking at everything you bought at Joannes and it was fun looking at the different fabrics you showed us at the store. I feel too with all the craziness right now in our country that I need to escape to my sewing room and focus on creating to take my mind off of it. It is my outlet and I feel so much better when busy sewing. Your video has inspired me to continue my sewing projects and I’m going to make a trip to Joannes next week. I haven’t been inside the store since March and I think it will lift my sprits to go in and look at all the new Christmas fabrics and start dreaming up new projects. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks! 😀

Oh my gosh Jill!! Yes treat yourself to a little outing and enjoy looking at Christmas prints. I also recommend a Home Goods if you have one in your area. I love them and they are finally getting in stuff again. Planning projects and making videos and blog posts is what keeps me going. It keeps my mind and my time occupied and it's such a positive outlet. It is absolutely my escape from a scary world. I also think it's important to put something positive out there in the midst of all the darkness. I'm even going to put my Christmas trees up next week. It's crazy, but this year, I need the distraction. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment.

I am also stocking and planning for future projects. During the summer I decided that I was bone weary of the negativity and was going to do things that brought me joy. I have made needle books,embroidered wool bag, and am currently making pin cushions caddies. I have some Christmas tea towels in the works and am using my grandma’s Featherweight sewing machine. I am enjoying simple and creative things!

Also reminding us to pick up a few extras because you are so right about these uncertain times not knowing from one day to the next what we'll wake up too. I am so glad that when I retired 12 yrs ago God put crafting into my life (I thought no never...no popsicle sticks for me haha. It became knitting then jewelry, crochet. now working on mini wreath ornaments & quilted cards. You will still get a little pkg from me haven't forgotten) because I don't know how so many retirees and others can spend their days with cable tv & reading alllll daaay looong. Long winded as usual so will jump off & say thank you for sharing all your cool stuff & you and your Mom con''t to stay safe! :)

Hello dear Kathy! Yes, I am also so grateful God blessed me with such a love of crafts. I don't know what I would be doing if I didn't have this desire to make in my heart. Yes, I would definitely inventory your supplies this weekend and pick up last minute items this week. Things are so scary and unstable right now. I'm planning to hide away in my neighborhood and enjoy crafts for the next couple of months. I won't need to go anywhere with the blessing of delivery and I will go back to that if I need to stay safe. I can't wait to cut into this new fabric and start the projects!

I’ve never made a quilt, but I hope to get started soon. If I don’t have a specific project in mind, how much yardage of different fabrics would you recommend getting?
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
Oh gosh Donna, that is really hard to answer. It depends on the size of the finished quilt and the type of blocks you are making. There are lots of free patterns available so I would pick the pattern first which will give you fabric requirements and THEN pick out your fabrics. When I shop for the fun of it, I generally get at least 2 yards of something, but I also gravitate to smaller projects like table runners and wall hangings. I have discovered that using fat quarter bundles works the best for the type of items I enjoy making and I probably will not buy too much in the way of yardage going forward unless I have something specific in mind.

"I'm crafting my way through the Apocalypse." LOL. Yup! Me too! In my state, there is no lockdown, everything is open, and there are no mask mandates...but nearly all the stores still require a mask! What the...?! I feel so miserably suffocated in a mask that I would not enjoy going to Joann's. Hopefully this all ends very soon after the election. In the meantime, I ordered a couple of mini quilt kits from the Fat Quarter Shop. And now that I have a sewing room, my dining table is clear for beautiful placemats, napkins, and decorations that I'm going to sew along with you. I love your channel!
@padmarubiales5184

I just did the same thing! I cleared several sewing machines and a bunch of fabric and tools off of my dining room table and moved it into my second bedroom since I got a sewing table. Now I can make table runners, tablecloths, placemats ...yippee!
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
Yeah, I'm not a fan of the mask. I despise them but I wear them as required. There is chatter they may try to take us backwards, but I honestly don't think it's going to go over too well. I'm in a tourist town, and with every thing operating the way it is, it's a very difficult time for my city and for many people who live here. I pray for normalcy to return and I hope that will happen, but I'm not sure how we get it back. In the meantime, I'm stocking my pantry and my craft supplies so if they do close us down, I have what I need. What kits did you order? That is super exciting about your dining room table! How fun!!! I'm planning a bunch of smaller type projects to publish each week. I'm excited about it for sure and definitely hoping people enjoy them. Thanks for your kind words! I do appreciate it.

@padmarubiales5184 3 года назад
Well now I want to go back to Joann too! I have been buying online but your store looks like it has more fabrics than mine does. Maybe mine has re-stocked since I was there a month or so ago. I like your bunny rabbit fabric too. And the Christmas tree one. I never read the end of the bolt. I assume that is where you are getting the information about where the fabric comes from. I should start doing that. I just depends and them putting cotton in the correct place. Do you also feel it and try to aim for a certain weight? Some of it is definitely more flimsy than others. And some I bought recently is so stiff I wonder if they accidentally sent me canvas! I couldn’t believe how stiff it was. Looks like you had a lot of fun!
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
I try to balance between premium cottons which are nicer and the quilting cottons on the wall. That is generally stiffer, but great for piecing quilt tops. Yes, the top of the bolt will give you country of origin and other information on the product. You should check your store and see what it looks like. Mine is finally getting back to normal. I prefer buying in person from Joann because the quality is so variable and it's impossible to tell from that crappy picture online. I hope your store is restocked and you find things you love!

I live in Canada, in a big city and the only places to purchase fabric are at Michaels, Fabric Land or a speciality quilt shop. The price per meter is around $28.00. I would love to shop at Joanns. I'm jealous of the price point at $4.99 per yard.

I shouldn’t care or even notice, but I love that you say “Joann” (no - s) 😆. I got a 5 fabric pre-cut bundle for fall and after making a runner top found it so thin and stiff I didn’t finish it, so I’m interested in hearing what you think of the quality. Enjoyed the video - great idea to prep viewers for upcoming projects 👍.

@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
Hi Maureen! Even though I don't have much of an accent, I'm still quite Southern so that's where the Joann (no-s) comes from. LOL!!! Thanks for your input on the fabric bundle. I am working my way through a list of projects for the channel right now and when those are complete, I can get into the new stuff.I am really interested to see how it does. I hope it's good because the prints are so pretty. I do have a fat quarter on the cutting table now for the new round of projects and we will see how it does. Thanks for your comment!
@beverlymartin1414
@beverlymartin1414 3 года назад
Maureen, Joann fabric can be very be inferior. If you are making a quilt, lots of time and energy, it is not a good idea. Novelty prints for a season item maybe. Fat quarter single cuts and assorted bundles are like cheese cloth held together (stiffness) with fabric sizing . 1 wash you are done . I have mixed emotions about HOBBY Lobby-(Owners Have been caught in International illiegal deals and way too much religion) their fabric dept is way above Joann and pretty good sales.
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
@@beverlymartin1414 The quality of Joann depends on which line you purchase. The higher end fabrics are almost as nice as what you find in a quilt shop. Certainly not Liberty of London, but not bad. More budget friendly when you shop on sales and use coupons. I love my local quilt shop, but if I only shopped with her, I would barely be able to do anything. All my projects are made with Joann or stash from Boundless (previously craftsy) and it's washed and worn well. The nicer lines are very different from the quilting cotton or calico cottons on the quilting wall. The nursery flannel is pretty cheap, but it's also very inexpensive. Especially on sale with coupons. I have only shopped in Hobby Lobby for fabric once, but I should go back and have another look. The fabric department in my local store was so small, and I never think of driving over to shop with them. I've used the Fat Quarters from Joann, and I thought they were fine. Not heirloom quality, of course, but I'm not making heirloom projects, so it doesn't bother me. But thanks for the reminder to revisit HL! I think it's great that we are blessed with so much variety and choice.
