Fun fact about “poinsettias”, it’s native to Mexico with the indigenous Nahuatl name being Cuetlaxochitl, after the Spanish colonization and imposition of Catholicism, the flower became known as Flor de Nochebuena (Flower of Christmas Eve) or just Nochebuena. Joel Poinsett, introduced the flower to the US, where it was named after him. I’m Mexican and grew up calling it Nochebuena, so when I moved to the states I found it so odd it had a different name in English, after finding out this history and the background on Poinsette I try to call it by its Nahuatl name or the Spanish name, even when speaking English. Anywho, excited for Vlogmass and all the festivities!
Yay! I always enjoy your vlogmas (infact, I’ve been watching older ones this week to get myself in the festive mood!) I love that you got old decorations from your parents to use and upcycle, not only to save buying new but because it’s nice to keep those things in the family and they bring back happy memories! Thank you, and see you tomorrow! 🎄😊
This was such a lovely video. Thank you soooooo much Maddie. I’ve been waiting for it and please continue to share all your secondhand and vintage finds! Most of us absolutely love love love that content 💖 and don’t ever do a “no buy year” 💖 buying secondhand is absolutely sustainable despite some comment I saw
Thank you this means a lot to me! I no longer want to follow extremes and get a lot more joy out of secondhand and vintage shopping or buying cute mugs that the pressure and stress of a no buy year!
Love your red shirt and your hair like that. It is so lovely to hear you talking about re-using things instead of going out and buying and yes charity shops a great idea. I have bought a toy reindeer for my grandson and it is basically new for £3. It will only come out at Christmas time so makes sense.
Yes I have no decorations from my childhood due to a greedy sister but I have so many memories and an old candlestick and my dad's old books and photos. Christmases past were fun and noisy and busy. You have made my day with your cheer. Thank you. Love your home and the fun you bring.
Love this. Your tree is gorgeous and the decorations from your family are just lovely especially the cushion 😍 Traditional Christmas is definitely the best in my opinion. Your shopping finds are super and secondhand even better.
Hi Madeline. I have used recycled wrapping paper and garden string for my wrapping. It’s a bit tricky without the tape to hold it together but you soon get into the swing! I use all my Christmas cards from the previous year for labels to reduce waste.
I have to say out of all the homes I have seen so far yours has the most charm. There is a cottagey feel and the history comes out at this time of year. You did a lovely job with the tree and the sitting room looks so cosy. I can see you both loving that room for films and food and Roxie snoozing. Christmas perfect. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us. It looks great.
I love vloggmas. Loved your video. Baubles are gorgeous. Great bargain on the good plates. Love making orange slices, smell so good. Awww sweet Roxy and Suzie the kitty, loved her kitty chat she did whilst enjoying the fire in living room. Tree looks beautiful 🐶🐱 x cant wait for day2
Lovely video! I love your vlogmas every year. The intro was beautiful, and such a GORGEOUS shot of you in nature with the scarf on your head and the berries! I looked like a painting!
I love your tree! I like when the tree is full of non matching ornaments. Ours is full of sentimental ones and its my favorite thing to pull them out every year! Your garlands are looking great too! Can't wait to see how they turn out 😊 Happy Vlogmas!
Loving your vlogmas. Just for future helpful information anyone with family pets, we want to be careful of poisonous plants or flowers we bring in our homes. Poinsettia are one of them. Let's keep our babies safe this holiday season❤
I love vlogmas! It is my Christmas tradition, and I'm so glad you're doing it again. I get overwhelmed with politics and the like most of the year and forget about wholesome content like this channel, but every year, vlogmas comes around and reminds me that politics isn't everything.
Hi Madeline. When I make my wreaths and hangings with foliage I find it useful to make a selection of button hole type bunches with string. Once the main frame is made you can then tie in the button hole arrangements. This year I have dried oranges, peppers, apples and limes for my tree and homemade bunting from old tea towels. I will also put on some for cones. Happy Christmas ❤
Love your enthusiasm and ethos and fun to borrow decorations. It is pointseTTIA not pointseTTA so you say IA not A. I love them as they are truly Christmasy. You make me feel more cheery as I was feeling down as Christmas can be a bit overwhelming and some family fall out and it is always difficult so I will concentrate on me and have the tree up and decorated and can't wait to get the food but hate the public rush. I have the cards ready to send and will write out friends and family near next. Keeping warm is a mission at the moment with lots of hot drinks as it is literally freezing and must be in Cornwall. My partner lives in another place so we just want to be in our homes at this time of year and not travel.
Your intro is great, makes you feel very Christmas, your tree looks lovely, love how you are making your own garland, Rosie henshaw and Polly put the petal on make wreaths and garlands they are on RU-vid and Instagram, look forward to your next vlog x
Really looking forward to Vlogmasing with you every day while decking the halls over here in snowy Ohio! Adore your intro. Absolutely gorgeous! SO cozy and homey. Love that you have some sentimental decorations from when you were young. I have quite a few and feel it makes everything that much more like home... 🎄
I am just now getting caught up ob Vlogmas (my favorite time of year!!!) SOOOOO beautiful Maddie but also have to admit laughed out LOUD seeing Alex putting the football on the tellie as you are decorating lol!!!
Happy Vlogmas to you Madeleines and Alex. I love the layout in the living room and enjoy the way you’ve decorated the room. You’re sweet animals like my dog make such a cozy addition to our homes. Loved seeing the items you borrowed from your parents. The cushion is sweet, Santa on the piano a nice memory. Old ornaments are precious. I too shop charity/thrift stores too. You have done such a good job on making your house a home. The Christmas tree is beautiful and love your ribbons on it. I’m glad you took time to enjoy also without the camera on. Not every thing needs to be shown. You’re both entitled to private moments. Your garland so far out front is a great start, the lights will add that extra touch. Sleep well. Xoxo ❤❤
Dec. 10. Want to say as a hip , God I'm 72, speaking about our cycles is so helpful. I learned my mother had an issue I had had. My grandmother born in 1890, had my mother at age 36. She was a Lady, and a lady who could dress and behave like a regal well loved Queen. This same lady could butcher a hog, grow yeast, bake and cook anything, sew and create her own patterns. This Lady could play bridge like a pro. So many things to list about my grandmother. I miss her soooo very much, you cant imagine. She could knit and crochet like a dream, too many wonderful things to list. She loved crazy me, and that takes skill and patience. This lady would never speak of lady issues. She had her share, and great losses of family too. My mother spoke more of cycle issues, but nothing too helpful. Now, my sister and I can speak about all of it with other women and my daughters. Now I have grandaughters, and we are open. Considering men typically do one career thing well and concentrate on one thing at a time, where women can multi- task amazingly. I will wear flat heelessish shoes like Doc Martin's etcetera. I have a head full of knowledge that should not be wasted. I only enjoy thinking people. I leave it here. Find women you trust and discuss.
Enjoyed this special vlogmas video. We decorated our tree whilst watching Love Actually too! 🎄Everything looks so beautiful and done so intentionally. Thank you for sharing this lovely inspiration.
I was waiting so much for this video. The intro is really nice and i love the idea of dried oranges . I would love to begin to do all the decorations right now. Even though i am 7 month pregnant this made me to have energy to do some preparation too. ❤😊
yay! so so happy Vlogmas is here! What a lovely, relaxing, wholesome video to start the festive season off with :) I was sitting down with a nice hot cuppa when your intro started and it made me instantly so relaxed and happy!
Your house looks huge from the front and I was looking at it thinking some sort of greenery over the doorway permanently would be lovely to frame the door. Yes pots either side will look gorgeous. Funnily enough I was thinking I would love to make an arch around my front door but I have a bunch on the door of greenery and a window box and it would be too much on my house. Can't wait to see your finished result.
Yea! I’ve got those gold plates, use them as placemats at Christmas! Had them for years! I’d get more if I saw them! Happy Vlogmas to you both and the four legged family xxx
Thank you Maddie, I wasn't feeling very festive lately but this vlog cheered me up and I just asked my sisters to come to my place this weekend to decorate the tree together (and maybe try to make garlands !)🎄♥ Also your intro is absolutely gorgeous !
Hi Madeleine, I am so happy to have just found your channel. Wow, I love how you love the vintage decorations from your mum and grandma. I went on holiday to beautiful Cornwall for the 30th time in October. Third time this year. I went to the lost gardens of Heligan where they were putting up the light illuminations. Too bad I couldn't see it in the evening. It must be a dream. I also bought a few things in the gift shop. It's a very classy selection there. I also went to the garden center where you bought your Christmas tree. So much memories:)). I was in Porthleven in February and in Coverack in the midst of October. It is simply a wonderful area for hiking, and cream tea of course:). I am delighted to have discovered and subscribed to you and will now be watching many of your videos. I am cooking vegan, too. Have a lovely festive season. I wish you all the best, Gabi from Germany.
Don't forget you can add in woody herbs such as Rosemary and Sage, the smell is amazing when you walk in the room. You can also dry lemons, apple slices and slices of pears to give a bit more interest. Not successfully dried berries on stems - if any one has can you please tell me how, thank you
❤ love your front door garland! ❤ please show us some table scape decoration ideas .thank you Madeleine. P.S you must visit Duchy Nusery & Cafe it’s beautiful in Lostwithial you willl love it. ❤
So excited for Vlogmas!! You are sooo talented and your home is beautiful, you inspire us all with your wonderful ideas and good wholesome living. Merry Christmas 🎄 I asked Santa for all your books for Christmas. LoL
Beautiful 1st day of Vlogmas.... please be careful poinsettias are toxic to cats! The plant with the berries and pretty leaves is mature Ivy. Looking forward to more of your content this month
You see that little rocking horse . That was my son’s 1st birthday cake topper when he was one year old. He will be 35 yrs old in 9 days 😱. I gave it to his son, who is 18 months . Luv old stuff ! I’m in Ct in America & luv u & ur videos. Happy holidays 🎄
Loved the tree and your first day of vlogmas.. your kitchen looked like my dining room today as i made my first wreath ever not as easy as it looked hahaha ... but i did it :-)

Me and my other half went through exactly the same process choosing our xmas tree today 🤣 so hard to limit yourself to the baubles and other decorations - it's our first year w a tree and I know we'll expand our collection as the years go by.
