I have been admiring photos of Maria Sinayskaya's braided corona stars for some time now and wishing I could learn how to fold them. Thank you for making this tutorial. I do love Maria's designs as they lock together nicely. This particular one was a challenge for me. It requires precise accuracy in folding to work. Some models are more forgiving. I had to replay the video and try several times before I succeeded. However, it was worth it. Thank you again.

My fourth and final video on ***** 's fantastic work is now online. Thanks, Maria for your creativity and generosity in sharing your designs with us. This video features another braided star, just like in my first video (Christmas Origami Instructions: Braided Star (Maria Sinayskaya)), but this one adds one extra layer of braids. Plus, in the video I show how to get a nice three-color effect. Hope you enjoy it!

This is so beautiful. I made several of these with gold flashings last year for Christmas presents and people just love them. I am currently hand drawing the diagrams with Yoshizawa symbols. Keep folding!

This one was very satisfying. Locking the model and weaving and aligning the braids were the best parts.

So similar to the other braided star it took me a while to spot the difference :D

I got cocky and tried this with non-duotoned paper on my first try. Bad idea. I folded the wrong point down half the time and ended up not able to make the final fold-down because I didn't have pockets. I sprang for the tiny kami and that made all the difference. Not only was it harder to screw up, but the colors were better and the final result was beautiful. Thanks for the tutorial!

That's great to hear. And I agree. On a first fold, it's usually easier to use paper that has a different color on the reverse. It does make it a lot easier to understand what's happening - which is why I almost always use that kind of paper in a video (even if I sometimes don't for display models). Plus, for this model, the color change really enhances the model.

I agree. I also got some embossed foil kami (Aitoh), but I want to try out a few more of your star tutorials before I use that. Should look really nice on these, though. I have to start on Christmas presents early when I'm the only elf, hahaha, but I'm looking forward to the reactions of the recipients.

#remakeplease This video isn't that old but I remember a few folds close to the end that I could not see what you did but I was determined to finish. I ended up buying several colors of velvet paper and made a star for the front of my Christmas cards. By the end I could fold them with my eyes closed. Going back now I don't see what was giving me a problem (hindsight?). I had to choose something for the day 3 giveaway, it's almost 2 in the morning and everytime I glance at the comments or browse through your playlists I start watching or worse- folding. So there's my # and good night! Happy folding can resume tomorrow.

#myfirst Hey, Sara! Following video 2 instructions I decided to tag this video even though it was not the first one I watched (actually I can't remember which one was it 😭) but this one is definitely one of my favorites and the one I think I might have watched the most times. I tend to forget models once I've folded them so I resort to your videos for refreshing. Cheers!

Yes, it's a wonderful model. I also forget how to fold models after not having folded them for a while. That's why documentation on how to fold them - be it diagrams, videos, crease patterns,... - is so important. :)

Sara, did you make your own foil paper for the model with the gold inside or is there somewhere to buy that?

Check the video description for some online shops that sell this kind of paper.

This is the final video on stars this year. I did manage to do four videos instead of one, though, so that's at least something, right? And if all goes well there'll be another Christmas-themed instructional video before Christmas: a santa by Peter Engel.

As I have said before, Sarah is a barely competent RU-vid origami instructor. Starting at 4:10 Sara instructs you how to fold the model in half. This fold is absolutely critical in order to get the model to work; Sarah is right about that. You have to fold this model very precisely, or else this model will not come together right. The best way to make this fold is this: notice that both points have a center line. One center line is a crease--the point that is one color and the other is two-toned, with the color change happening on the center line. When you created the pockets in this model, notice that they are exactly the same size and shape (even though you used different methods to create them. Align the tip of BOTH pockets with the center line of the tips. You will have to flip the model back and forwards. The edges of the model will align. When you get the alignment correct and crease the model, it will crease EXACTLY through the center of the model. For someone as well-regarded in the origami community as Sarah Adams is, failing to notice this demonstrates that she is not a competent instructor.

Thank you for sharing your tip on one way of achieving good precision on this particular fold.

Corona...... hhhhhmmmmm

corona: the rarefied gaseous envelope of the sun and other stars. The sun's corona is normally visible only during a total solar eclipse, when it is seen as an irregularly shaped pearly glow surrounding the darkened disc of the moon. (www.lexico.com/en/definition/corona) ;)
