@@metubecm Apparently what really happened is that Alan is very smart, and smart doesn’t get you anywhere because soaking up loads of common knowledge is penalised in this game show. After a few seasons of coming in last place Alan stops answering and starts to win, he doesn’t like being the butt of the joke and is considering quitting. That’s when the producers tell him why he was losing before, and losing actually proved how smart he really was. He knows a lot of the common knowledge, the stuff we’ve all been taught but isn’t exactly correct, which means he’s learned incredibly well in school and is very intelligent, most people wouldn’t remember all that stuff. After that he started to engage more in the show again.
I remember as a nipper back in the 50's, when we still had small lit candles which had a small circular 'drip tray' on a clamp to clip onto the Christmas Tree, before the electric lights were invented....Never set fir to the tree or our house.....
My mum still has five or six of those, she puts those among the electric bulb ones, at the tips of the longest brances so as not to make the flames cook any branches above. Zero accidents occurred so far.

I mean yeah, probably a coincidence 😀the etymology of Christmas is "Christ + mass", ie. the mass (a particular religious celebration of the Eucharist) of Christ.
Don't forget it's also freaking expensive to send cards now. 75p or £1.10 each. I normally have to send 20 so that's £15 minimum. Plus the card prices so maybe an extra £5. So no wonder few folks are sending cards now.

The way they talk about Mithras, is slightly skewed tbh. Christianity didn't replace these gods/festivals, it just made sense to use the old calendar. It is quite normal. No compromise can be made about bewen niches little religions like Mithras and the worldwide impact the Christianity has had. Not even near to comparison, no matter what posh people say :)
The catholic church is a roman pagon rewriting of the jesus story, they deleted almost 90 gospels telling the full story, and only kept 4 badly edited gospels which were designed to recruit pagons over into their religeon.
I have kinda lost respect for Christmas... kinda lost the feel good feeling... I agree ignorance is a bliss! Now with the Isreal doing what it is doing and justifying it, and United States and United Kingdom supporting it unquestionably... makes one wonder if all these religions and festivals and even Stephen Fry is just hollow! Stephen Fry is almost a relic from the British Raj... Anyways, if one tries to be honest to themselves, there is nothing much to it!
