Oh Marion, I cried when I read the title of this video. So many of us have been placed in the unenviable position of rethinking our Christmas celebrations. I thought of the book Little Women when they shared their Christmas dinner with those less fortunate. Thank you so much for this set of recipes which I think will bring real joy to others at the end of despicable year.
I’m so happy to know that someone as fabulous as Marion watches Matty Mathesons channel where every other word is f*ck and he literally craps at the end of an episode
This is an interesting distinction. I'm from Canada with American parents, my mom always called it shepherd's pie, she'd make it with beef! I love the name difference though, Cottage Pie is such a cute name! I will be calling it that from now on :)
@@fataldoughnut5626 to be completely clear, the original person is right, traditionally, a shepherds pie is made using leftover roast lamb and cottage pie is using fresh beef mice but as we don’t eat much lamb here in Australia as it’s very much only available seasonally, plus making the pie with leftover roast can be a bit dry, we tend to just use fresh mice, usually beef. Not really sure why we call it shepherds pie rather than cottage pie but we do.
I’m going to make the shepherds pie in a giant casserole pot this Christmas! And add hot chilli oil to my lamb- to reduce the greasiness feel and make it more fragrant! Thanks Marion
I liked u when u use ur hand to measure the salt just like my mom.... I addicted to ur vedios... And ur cooking so neat and traditional I really love it....
Absolutely delicious! I'm sad I can't eat this right now. I have no choice but to do my best to make it myself ... Japanese-style potato salad goes well with sandwiches and rice! I also like using shichimi peppers. Have a nice New Year holidays.
Thank Marion for your fabulous Japanese Potato Salad and Vietnamese butterfly chicken, it was an absolute hit at our fmaily xmas lunch. Merry Christmas to you and your family from Margaret River, WA.
Shepherd pie with beef is usually called cottage pie, but we still call it Shepherd pie cos my Mum used to use leftover mutton or lamb roast and leftover corned beef minced up with onion and topped with mash back in the 70’s - love your version...
Yes you are correct. Easy to renember: sheperd is taking care of sheep. Never seen a sheperd with cows 😌. If only I could still cook myself. Am bed bound so have to instruct carers. Some of them can cook, many can not. These dishes look fantastic.
@@bp4198 Actually it's Irish. When lamb is used it is called cottage pie, and shepherds is with beef. Shepherd’s Pie History Shepherd’s pie is one of the most loved meals in Ireland. The truth is that shepherd’s pie came about from sheer genius and the need to preserve rather than waste food. It was derived from the need to make something cohesive from the little bits of food that was seen to be not worth much. It was so revered in that time that it became something like a specialty dish in some homes. People enjoyed it so much that it hit the public like quickfire. Amazing, right? At first, it was called cottage pie before they separated this meal into two categories. Beef, for cottage pie, and lamb, for shepherd’s pie. Then they were both called shepherd’s pie. But these days, some people can’t tell which is shepherd’s and which is cottage. It just takes knowing what exactly it is you want and where you are sure to get it. Cottage pie, as it was called then, was made because the Irish housewives of the late 1700s and early 1800s hated watching their husbands and kids waste food. Yeah, you heard that right. The old favorite, shepherd’s pie, was made out of leftovers at that time.
“ mom can you get gas “ where is the “ PLEASE” Marion? I watched with kids, where I always teach them to say please whenever they asked for something.good manners still included in cooking, just saying. There are some kids watching your show too. Merry Christmas 🎄
