We use those rubber bell boots on our quarter horses in the spring and summer to help keep their shoes on. Have used them for years. They have never stretched and they have never ever come off. I recommend them 100%.

When gabby says that rubber stretches that is her preference and in her opinion it does so people need to stop telling this family what to do and that their wrong . This family has opened up to RU-vid and shared their lives with RU-vid so we need to respect their choices and if we have an opinion great : keep it to yourself or say it kindly . 💜

You know I'm sorry to say this but Gabby doesn't know everything about horses and when people are trying to give you advice like for example those rubber boots that will help your horses you should put your foot down and say no we're getting these and we are going to put them on our horses just my advice you should just do it because overall you want your horses to be healthy you want to take care of your horses love them but also make sure they don't get hurt and if those boots are going to prevent your horses from getting hurt I say go for it and not every horses used to rubber boots and sometimes depending on what kind of material the boots are made of and if they're too tight can rub your horse it can cause sores but also if you get two big ones that are loose they will come off I'm just trying to say you shouldn't say no to something until you try it out and see if it works for you and your animals

@melbowell5601

Well done Laura, as I’ve said before I think you’re hands are ok, it’s just the consistency and you’re right, you do want to maintain a light contact ( as long as your hands are steady) and yours are 👍You’re also right that slowing a horse doesn’t just involve the reins, but your seat, body and legs too. You can’t put you’re hands too far back in the western saddle due to the horn, so again, you don’t want your hands in your crotch, but you also don’t want them half way up the horses neck either 😊 One tip is to keep your fingers closed around the reins, that doesn’t mean a death grip lol, but you tend to open your fingers and just my opinion, but I think that adds to you problems potentially in terms of steering and brakes 😊 I did think she looked a bit off, but I’m not used to gaited horses, although I would have thought there pace should still be even on all legs ( if that makes sense). I know I’ve asked before and you haven’t mentioned it, but when are you going to get the vet out to give her a good check up? Even if there are a few issues it doesn’t necessarily mean she wouldn’t be suitable, however in my view, better to know what your dealing with so that you can make any adjustments or get her treated accordingly. I really hope she’s ok though and will be for your trail ride 😊👍🤞
@debrabolton9372
@debrabolton9372 3 года назад
Aww, I love how Penny came to you when you called her. I think that when someone is on a trail ride the person is more vigilant. No one wants to fall on the trail. I’ve also been investigating the cost of breeches, boots, and helmet. Wow! If I do start riding I will wear leggings. I won’t be showing so breeches are not necessary. The helmet definitely necessary. Maybe short boots. We’ll see. Wearing #TeamFinn shirt today. Proud of you, Laura, for how well you’re doing with Penny. 🍀🍀🍀🍀

Laura when I first got my horse I needed a cheap saddle that could basically do everything. So I found an 18 inch all purpose saddle from stateline tack and it was only around $120. It was a great buy and it feels amazing, I highly recommend that saddle, it also comes with stirrup leathers a girth and stirrups. I don’t use that saddle anymore because with have a newer one however I highly recommend it if you want a big saddle. It’s an all purpose English saddle but I know you wanted a western or Australian stock saddle.

Your hands were so much better this ride Laura!! that's why you have breaks now she's listening when you do ask, because your asks are so much more clear and effective, yes tightening your core and sitting back and up helps with stopping, I have a tendency to over tense and bend my ankle and feet, so making sure they're relaxed round the horse and theres no tension there also helps with breaks too, just trying to keep complete feeling of calm through your body even if you're anxious, trying to remember to breathe deep and calmly, and learning that helps me with my anxiety in day to day life too c: I did too think penny looked a little off at one point but it might've been her going a little quick and stumbling downhill slightly as I didnt see it the whole ride, definitely check her over, when will your farrier see her?

Personally I think every horse should at least have bell boots on when riding just because anything can happen and it could save tons of money over time if your horse overreaches at all, not to mention it can prevent them from hurting themselves. The bell boots you all looked at won't stretch overtime as well. The part that tends to stretch out is the velcro, not the rubber :)

The pull on bell boots are better then the velcro ones. I had a horse who would rip the velcro off and we would always have to buy a new pair each week.

Those rubber bell boots actually stay on for a lot longer than the strap on boots do! I’d really recommend them and I use them as over reach boots while I show jump as well :)

using the bitless is still going to be your best bet, for taking pressure off of her. Using bits is for higher levels of communication, which you still need to learn. I hope you see that letting go and trusting her is the best. Relationship 101 - you got this Laura! Good for you.

You look a lot better on penny! To slow down your rein length looks really good but you want to close your fingers around the reins not necessarily pull and then release the pressure. And to get her head down you want to pull one rein at a time, close ur left fingers than your right. You seem to be bonding really well

I am just like Sophie I really wanted a ONE K but I had a round circular head so I got a TIPPERARY WINDSOR helmet (it is a bit more expensive than a ONE K but it had mip technology and is sooo comfy) she should check them out

Lura you should look at Hilason treeles saddles they will fit any horse you polut them on. I have one and you can't tell they difference between the looks of it but you can truly feel a difference. My horse feels so much more free in my treeless saddle I love it so much. I'm not sure if hilason ships to Canada though you'd have to look. The treeless saddles don't move as much as you'd think they would either they are pretty secure most barrel racers use treeless saddles. Sorry for such a long comment but moral of the story I recommend hilason treeless saddles Hope you find the saddle of your dreams ❤❤

I suggest you get a endurance saddle. They are very comfortable for you and for the horse. They are on the expensive side but they come in variety of sizes. I struggled finding a saddle that was 18inches and that fit my horse very well. Let me know if you try it! Much love💕

Penny is doing so good but about her holding her head high walkers naturally Carry their head high but with some training she should start to lower her head and about the saddles I recommend a cut back saddle seat saddle if you get a English one they are the most comfortable on gaited horses and run in pretty big sizes I just recently bought one for my walking mares and I love love love it and western saddles It really doesn’t matter they are all great for gaited horses

I got my bracelet at Big Dee’s online they are very good quality! I love the bracelets. I have one that is for my horse that passed away. It says Everything KoJac. I have to get a new one for my horse now named Acelin. I will wear both of them like gabby will.

And the saddle seat English saddle is really good for the way gaited horses move it helps them move freely they are pretty expensive but well worth it if I ride a gait horse I always ride in one because it’s the most comfortable for me and the horse and it really helps them move well because of the cutback I’ve ridden in several different kinds of English saddles and this is by far the most comfortable for me instead of having to keep my legs tight saddle seat saddles you put your stirrups as low as you can reach its way more comfortable to me

Laura you need to get barrel racing reins it clips on to the bit then you can change the length AND there is NO clip, also Laura there was a light pink lead rope at Greenhawk.

If you are open to it I have ridden in an WinTec dressage saddle on one of my clients horses and it is more comfortable than any western saddle I have been in!!! See if there is a used one you could try. I and a show jumper so I tend to like English saddles more but it is my favorite trail saddle. I ask to use it on other horses time to time if I am going on a trail.

you might have to reserch about collection and frameing and low head carrige in a gaited horse as they have different front structure as it,s important for them as well wonder if there is a club in your area would be lovely for you and sophie to mix with other gaited horse lovers sophie has her gaited horse all planned out lol penny did seem a little off in the outside front leg as you were going clock wise but im most likely wrong
