Horses are designed by nature to move and graze and travel to water most of the day and night..they only sleep for short periods of time usually in the hottest part of the day I can understand being cautious on spring grass or a pony that has foundered. But its past that time of year.
My horse is out day and night.if she is put in for health reasons she will come over the stable door!! So for her living out is better.i didnt choose she did! Theres alot of top competion riders now that have their horses live out as mentally the horses are so much better.
CRIBBING COLLAR! It looks like you're going to have Posey getting bred, , if you can't keep her in one area you need an electric fence. If Posey gets bred at such a young age (especially by a bigger boar) she will have trouble giving birth and could easily die!
I have 7 horses who went from coming into stalls at night then field during the day to now living out 24/7 and their mental health is way better . Even when they’re in no work or full work and retirement they still were just happy . Came into a dirt field during the winter with 24/7 hay available . We had 2 horses crib and usually in my experience it’s either becuase they’re bored , need their teeth done or have some neurological issue which we sorted it out as teeth and Boredom issues and we used a paste literally called anti crib paste and it solved it within 2 weeks
Tell Sam to get some U Chanel, you screw it into the wood on top of the fence boards. It will prevent the chewing. Additionally wood chewing is done out of boredom. Horses are grazing animals they are meant to be on grass 24/7. If your horses are getting obese on the grass put a grazing muzzle on them. At least they are out and moving around rather just standing in a stall. My horses never EVER stayed in a stall unless there was a reason medically. It’s not good for them to just Stand for hours on end
Plz plz read this I worked at a huge show barn and what we used was NO CHEW its comes in a metal can with a blue label its not chemicals it’s basically cinnamon. Only makes there mouth a little hot when you apply it use a paint brush and wear goggles if it gets in your eyes it hurts for dayssss also don’t wear AirPods and drop on in it them put it back in your ear😂😂😂 I only know bc of personal reasons
It’s actually called CHEW STOP but at the barn we called it no chew you can find it online or at most tack supply stores ps I’ve been watching y’all since I was 13 and now I’m 19 so you’ve guys have grown with my in my horse journey so I’d love to help you just a little love you guysss♥️♥️♥️
I’d assume you didn’t mean it to sound the way it did but saying you care about your horses health and then adding “instead of throwing them in a pasture and enjoy yourselves” came off a bit rude to people who do have their horses out 24/7. If your horses need to not have grass 24/7 then that’s fine. But remember horses can live off of grass. They need the pasture. And a lot of horses do wonderful in pasture 24/7. In all honestly it sounded like you’re saying people who do do that just doesn’t care about their horses as much.
Exactly. My horses live outside 24/7. They get top of the line feed, have everything they could ever need and honestly all behavioural issues they had from being stalled when they were boarded is gone. Stalls are for our convenience, not horses.
"Were interested in the health of our horses" That was extremely rude, and insulting to people who let their horses out on grass 24/7. There's nothing wrong with it, it's good for your horses. They're probably so bored from being in their stalls so much, mental health is important too
Laura you need to get a pair of tall rubber boots then you can go in the tall grass. Also protects against ticks. Garden looks great by the way. Geez Lady is eating you out of a barn!
Horses naturally live on grass... in the wild they roam on grass all day... but of course, get more exercise than your herd does as well. Many riding horses are kept on outdoor board and are happy and healthy for it. I wasn't a big fan of the attitude about this.
Ladybug needs more stimulation she's use to working you can use wrought iron at the top and sides of your wood to help with the chewing and put a cushion on top of your wood milking stand would help.
Yes heard of Goat Yoga lol. Laura idk if those noodles will be sturdy enough for a goat stool. Wont they bend alot even if you use duct tape? Why doesnt sam cut that long grass so you dont have to worry about snakes?
Sophie should train Lady like she does the minis. Get her to work her like that once a day, maybe she stops eating wood. Or Maybe lady have some vitamin deficiency?
If you have some trees that have been cut down, putting them out for the horses to chew on, can help save your fences. Mine love ripping bits of bark off.
Good morning fam! Sam could trim those places out it some kind of thin metal or even hard rubber(old bike tires) would work great!! Hey my back hurts to! Ok I jealous now, you laying there with the goats climbing on yur back! Yeah yur dirty face is pretty funny Laura! Next you know that rooster will be flogging you! Looks like yur stool will do the job! ❎✳❎✳
Please don’t be so self- righteous about leaving the horses on pasture overnight. You wouldn’t make it in Eastern Oregon because there are a lot of “homeless” horses ( they are outside all the time) and do just fine and most of them are working horses.
Hi ALL, it's o.k. for your horse's to be OUT ON grass at night ,IF YOU are riding the horse's every DAY. BUT AS you don't ride all the horse's everyday. SO I understand we're Lora is coming from . May be try and get some metal parts for the starls. Take care and all the best. 😄😊😊😊👍👍👍👍💟💖
R.E. Cribbing, get the horse a slow feeder haynet with little holes he has to work to pull the hay through and fill it with some low calorie grass hay he can trickle feed on all day. There are also toys you can hang in their stalls that sort of do the same thing with hard feed. They also make horse balls you can hang up as well. He's probably just board and cribbing has now become a habit/addiction. Oops! I just noticed the misspelling/pun... Board, crib, get it?!😂
@@nicolegarwood4554 No, your wrong. " Cribbing *IS* where the horse *chews wood* *WINDSUCKING is where they suck in air which gives them an endorphin high* *Cribbing can lead to WINDSUCKING however. If the horse starts WINDSUCKING they'll need to get a Cribbing strap*
P.S. I'd just ring my vet to get advice on this matter as it is a medical as well as behavioural issue. I think most vets would be happy to give advice about this over the phone.
@@sandyc6569 thanks ! I deserved that cookie lol , lighting fast I was ! Laura’s muddy face lolol you remind me of myself at times like that 😂 mud is good for ya skin lol 😂 I also meant to tell you that the yellow wild flowers you had in the vase with the purple ones? We have them(or similar) in Scotland and as kids we put them under our chin and if you see yellow it means you like Butter! ….. lol obviously a load of rubbish but kids , they’ll believe anything you tell them lol btw we call them Buttercups 🌼🌼
Seems like possible boredom with the chewing? But it seems like she gets plenty of exercise so maybe not? Could try a salt block or extra hay, horses are natural foragers she may just need something else to entertain her mind!
