Mary and Matthew clips from the Downton Abbey Series 2 Christmas special.
Back in September, when series 2 first aired, I set myself the challenge of making a fanvideo for every episode of Downton Abbey this series. As the Christmas special is sort of part of series 2, I thought it was only fitting to make one for the Christmas special too!
So I hope you enjoy watching it. It's longer than usual, because there were just so many brilliant Mary and Matthew moments and it was an extended episode. The last scene has been edited a bit, but I've tried to get all the key lines of dialogue in! It was very tempting to just have all their scenes in! :-)
The music is once again from the Land Girls' film soundtrack and this video uses the track "The End" from the closing credits (quite fitting I think!).
Got to wait until September now for some more episodes, but I'm sure I'll keep making Mary/Matthew videos to tide me over. Oh and I'm always after song suggestions!

Matthew and Mary have strong and stubborn minds. But still they totally complement each other. Matthew softens Mary and Mary makes Mathew braver. But they needed everybody to shake them, to remind them and make them realize how they awfully struggle in keeping themselves away from each other when they knew that they still love each other. And then alas! When all things are cleared, from releasing themselves with all the worries of Carlisle, ghost of Pamuk and sweet, kind Lavinia! Finally! Finally! ❤️❤️❤️ Oh my heart! Fireworks everywhere! What a lovely, lovely scene!

The way Robert egged him on he was such a potent supporter of Mary and Matthew it was really emotional and touching. He loved him like his own son. I will thus never get why the writers didn’t s how Robert’s reaction to Matthew’s death at the beginning of S4. Fellows decision to move past it once the new season started, left us isolated in our grief and lost many touching, beautiful moments that could have been.

This was the sequence of events: - Matthew knelt - Matthew proposed - They kissed - Matthew picked her up and they spun in the snow - MY HEART EXPLODED.

This is the only English drama that i was able to watch almost all of the series. I stopped watching when Matthew Crawley died too.. The succeeding series were fine i guessed but I lost my interest when Matthew Crawley died too. Matthew and Mary were best partner when it comes to characters, they really blend well (pity it was not last to the end).. and I really find it a very good drama. The characters were perfectly suited to each actors, the story was amazing!

Yes I agree. The best British TV series romance drama. Matthew and Mary are the best character actors portraying true pasionate love, pure, and eternal love.

Thank you sooo much for uploading this!!! I'm nearly crying now, because I love Mary&Matthew so much. And it's so sad he died when he just became a father and got a little son. 'Mary and Matthew' is my favourite couple from Downton Abbey. Of course I love Sybil and Branson too. It's so sad that Sybil died too. And Anna and Bates of course. But Mary and Matthew.... Awwww soo adorable and cute and sweet and perfect!!! I love the Christmas Special!! It's my favourite episode. And season 2 is my favourite season. I stopped watching after season 3 because it was just too much and too sad... Great video!! It's perfect!!!

Love this vid. I esp. love how you showed Matthew taking Mary back, even before his mother had to tell him, eg. stepping in at the shoot and slying saying that she had promised the first shoot with him, and the look in his eye as he looks out of the corner of his eye. You can just hear him smirking. And all the other interventions he does, until finally he gives Carlisle the what for. It's so sad they wasted all those years over her "secret" when they could have been years of happiness.

chemistry between Matthew n Mary is totally amazing as compare to Henry n Mary. When Henry bullies her, she cannot take it. Matthew can handle her so strongly n convincingly... Matthew brings best out of her...

Mansi ghanekar so insightful and you are the first person to put your finger on why the world is obsessed with this chemistry. He loved her from the moment he set eyes on her, understood her but wouldn't take her nonsense from the beginning (sea monster), you are so right!

@@sarahdlp524 so true...be it the episode of sea monster or Mary's stupid behaviour to seek attention of Anthony Strallian and neglecting Matthew or Reggie's will, Matthew is quite strong to assert himself. still he loves Mary genuinely.... Mary thinks Henry is her love because everyone else keeps telling her so..She does not feel it. She was attrected but the breathelessness in love was surely absent. He may be in love with her but he can't control her in proper manner. He can probably a companion but not love.... Though at a moment, Matthew might have been out of heirship n remained only solicitor, she wanted to be with him. He could bring best out of her.... She was perfectly handled though both were strongheaded. Henry may be a good person but is he really her match? I think, absolutely no...

I agree, and Mary still puts him off a bit by telling him he doesn't mean that. I mean, really. Good thing she didn't leave it at that,and he didn't just walk away. She really takes chances on her happiness. I think she developed a martyr complex thru all this Permuk stuff. How could anyone say no to Matthew.

I rather prepare to watch many times... The first DA... in. DVD when I took vacation for 2 months in Bershire UK... GLAD I also visit the whole ENTIRE PLACE OF ABBEY INCLUDING GARDEN etc etc located in Bershire

I was glad to see her out of the picture. Matthew took her on a rebound - less complic. for him. I agree it gave M&M a chance to reunite - the time they really needed to let their love grow. Mary's the one who really suffered all that time. Her big mistake was going to Carlisle. M&M needed to court each other and become close that way too. Interesting theory about Carlisle - V. Bates. What if Patrick does come back? Would Edith marry him and they get Downton? Would M&M be ok with that?

I still really liked Lavinia---so sweet and kind. But, I see your point about Matthew only proposing to her, because he lost Mary. The series just HAS to resolve the situation with Patrick: there is no way it can be left unsolved. I would LOVE to see Edith, the "ugly duckling", marry Patrick and become the mistress of Downton. Mary, the "uppity minx" in the words of Mrs. Hughes, would have to marry for love and not money or position. I cannot wait for the next season.

I understand the spinal shock, but I think it was just too convenient for Lavinia to die. It gives Matthew and Mary a chance to reunite and marry. As for Sir Richard Carlisle, I think he murdered Vera Bates. Carlisle does not care who gets the blame. What is going to be the resolution of the Canadian who claims to be the cousin who really should inherit Downton? I cannot see this just being dropped. Somehow this claim must be validated or not. Downton Abbey has great acting! When is season 3?
