It's very common for conquerors to adopt the culture they conquer. Look at the various conquests of Persia, starting with Alexander the Great, as well as the Mongols with China, the Germanic tribes with Rome, and - of course - the Turkish conquests of Eastern Rome.
actually, Europe got these strains of music from the Middle Eastern and Greek (again, similar because of earlier roots in Middle East, check Table of Nations in Genesis backed up by ethnic legends, mythology and archaeology) and there was contact with the Middle East and North Africa (the origin of Irish monasticism).
Just listen to the intro in this modern song of Muharem Serbezovski, he was a Gypsy from FR Macedonia, in the then Yugoslavia: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w7yUcBVY408.html
would you like to write some screenplays about the Byzantine Empire with me and other Christians? There are no good Byzantine movies today. My discord is Proletariado#4420
For those who don't know, Christodoulos Halaris spend much of his life reviving this music. The orthodox church tried to bury secular music. Halaris found many of the pieces in monastic libraries hidden away.
@@ThunderDragon778 Before the Christian faith became dominant, the Romans, especially in the east, were using Hellenic music for their festivals, etc. Hellenic music slowly transformed and influenced secular music. But during the 7th century when the empire became dived more into religion in some cases, not all of them the church was banning all secular music except church chants. This was because secular music was deemed pagan. So Halaris found these and tried to revive them using church chants and music from all the greek refugees from Constantinople, Smyrna, and Anatolia in general.
What do you mean (rest in peace)? in religions After death there is a reckoning from God, Heaven or Hell in atheism There is no life after death, the person dies then his body decomposes, and it is over So what is meant by this sentence? Because I see many saying it without knowing its meaning
@@guidooctavio3982 I also said that even from the point of view of atheism, this statement is not correct I didn't just say religion rest in peace, what do you mean?? There is no reckoning or torment !
@@احمدبسام-ض7ض He said it just like people like myself say "oh my god" when surprised, even though i don't believe, and i honestly try to not say it. Stil, I don't understand why believers say "rest in peace". Isn't there supposed to be an afterlife...? Then why "rest" instead of enjoying in the afterlife? I am sure you can answer this as coherently as you expect others to answer your doubts. Kind regards.
Very nice indeed, hard to live in a country without having the liturgy we pertence so hard realy, may Theu reunite all the churches in the world ,it is enough 938years of separation! .Greetings from Brazil
KiljiArslan The new council will be a false one. It's highly unnecessary! We don't have the same Patriarchs and Saints as in the previous ones and I suspect that this new one have only real political reasons. God Bless!
What an incredible anthology from such an incredibly composer. I love how they also included οσον ζεις, which is an ancient Greek song, truly showing how continuous Greek music has been over the centuries and into the Medieval Roman times. It is an incredible story.
Many of us do. We pray for it. We were eastern Romans back then. The whole area from South Italy to Armenia spoke Greek was Christian. So much history lost because of the Turks and the Catholics.
One day Constantine Palaiologos as the prophecy sais will be ressurected and this will happen when Greece gets back Constantinopole and then the empire will be back

ya no thanks for a degenerated society where all aspects are monopolized by the state. It's why their society, and western rome, failed and why the republic and pre-roman greece were successful. Byzantium is a textbook on how not to run a nation.
Actually, both Arabic and Byzantine music come from the Music of the ancient Levant. Ancient Ugaritic pieces are extremely similar to the Arabic and Byzantine ones. And music is usually a multiregional phenomenon that spreads fast. Music belongs to nobody, it belongs to everyone.
I work as a skipper in Greece and tourists tell me quite often that Greek music sounds eastern / Turkish. From now on i will play this playlist whenever they tell me so.
We were just 100 years ago ottoman imp. Now is Turkish Republic. What happened Selçuk rum imp.? Also where is gone Byzantine imp? So all the same nothing changed. people is same still here. Yes probably religion change language change too. Happened all the time. But same cultures still carrie on.
byzantine music very influenced by roman and mesopotamian sounds. and turks heavily influenced by byzantine sounds. in turkish music, there is something called turkish art music and it's basically the byzantine sounds, and it's beautiful like its ancestor. also, i really love this greek composer and british lyre music composer michael levy . ❤
