He did fit the perfect profile of the intellectual. My favorite is the interview with Gore Vidal, I was so impressed with. What a great human being Vidal was. Hitchens was the perfect match for that interview. Two great men, getting tickled at each other's ability to entertain, in a positive, creative way, with words.

I am a longtime child and family advocate and international humanitarian. I love that he publicly took on rabbi regarding the justification of child genital mutilation in another interview years ago including circumcision. Informed consent is a human right. Rest in power Chris.

You can never convert anyone. It’s foolish to think you can persuade anyone to believe. Pray quietly and always be respectful of the right of anyone to have their own personal feelings and opinions about their faith or lack of it. Christopher once said he was deeply touched by people who prayed for him and sent letters filled with well wishes. I adored Hitchens. When he fell ill it broke my heart. I miss him terribly.

I disagree with Hitchens in everything...... But I am highly impressed by his debates and his attitude towards philosophical thinking etc.

Why would anyone be so uncaring as to "pray" for somebody else... it's just a cop-out that helps you sleep easy at night. You don't actually care, you just present that you do.

Hitchens is the best example to say Atheists prefer Hell, for Hell is locked from inside.

Call me a simple soul but I always found it far easier to believe that something made something out of nothing than nothing made something out of nothing. In one sentence I have probably said something more profound in its simplicity than an hour of Hitching's intellectualism.

Imagine God healed him, he would still say something like, "yeah i had frens who prayed for me and they think im cured because they prayed for me."

My problem with people praying is that it gives them the feeling that they've done something towards a problem while not doing anything, they'll pray for the poor or for the families of gun violence and that's it. Or they'll pray for something that's entirely in their hands or hands of others, like getting a job or having successful surgery, and instead of giving themselves or others the credit they instead give it to god who had nothing to do with it and as a consequence don't see their own value or the value of others, which i think is quite sad. Saying that I do understand that orayer can have some positive benefits if you have no way of helping someone or need sole comfort it can be helpful, befoŕe becoming an atheist I used or to help with anxiety. When becoming an atheist i had to learn tp deal with the fact that some things can't be helped and you jist have tp roll with it, you can't always do something to help someone except be there for them. One thing I found interesting was that to get over my need for prayer i prayed to gods I made up for a story and it helped me realise the whole placebo effect that prayer has. On the other hand prayer can alsp be harmful, like making people feel bad when prayers aren't answered, as if it's their fault. Or faith healing, which is one of the oldest cons in history and one of the most despicable and disgusting ways to con someone.

Hitchens the agnostic messiah obviously left his disciples as orphans. He reminds me of the Pharaoh sitting there, after everything his heart is black and hard as flint. Because he had gone so far in his crusade against God - his heart is hardened unable to repent. He never debated against any United Pentecostals. Pity I did pick up a bit of honesty in his statement- What is prayer really? He obviously had been around the Catholics with their empty repetitive prayers of absolute nothingness. Pray is, a one-on-one heart to heart with a God who is invisible, that is omnipresent - omniscience with the power to spin the whole earth off into orbit if he wanted to. Yet knowing this God would yearn to hear from his greatest creation (man and women) in private. Now you may say, what nonsense, or rubbish, this God you cant hear him or see or feel him...that is where you are foolishly wrong and have never learned it is possible. Because you can feel him and he will talk to you. But the only way to experience that is in the Spirit. Amazing so much intellect, and you can't even read the word of God. Whatever homework and history study you did, you failed to miss the History of God's salvational plan. God through Jesus Christ made a way for everyone on earth that would believe on him to be able to have access through and into a Spiritual Heavenly Rhelm with God in prayer. One on one - but it cant be accessed with denial of God and unbelief in your hearts and mind. Once you believe in the heart that opens the door- you then must be born again - by the water and the Spirit of our Holy God. That is the evidence You and Hitchens and all of you alke have missed in your arrogance and foolish pride. Being born again just as the scriptures have said by eye witness in the Book called the Acts of the Apostles - it still happens today - in fact, it is Sunday morning right now in some countries and in an Apostolic Pentecostal Church, it will happen right now today! Someone will be filled with the Holy Spirit of God just as in written. You foolish intellects are deceived and blinded by the god of this world! Not The God of creation but the god of this insane world lucifer! You are blind, you consider yourself superior intellects and you can't even read a Bible and truly understand it. It takes a child to bring you down to read it to you. If hitch would have gone to the real Church instead of the dead Catholic church he could have experienced real supernatural Holy Spirit prayer. I feel sorry for Hitchen. This guy refused to see the light even at the end of his life. He never satisfied with anything in this world. For him anything and anyone in this world is wrong. He depended on his own intellectuallity, arrogance, and hatred. So many bitterness in his soul. May his soul walk in the tunnel and see the light then finally reach the golden gate.

In fact, many Christians tend to use the word 'pray for' easily. Shouldn't prayer be what I truly, truly want and wish for in my heart? Frankly, I've never prayed such a prayer for someone I'm not personally familiar with. Hitchens may have rejected such Christian 'lightness'.

Consider the Church's 'Act of Contrition,' on how it comes in two parts, first of 'attrition' (an act of forgiveness, selfishly moved, for fear of Hell), and of 'contrition' (a heartfelt repentance to Our Heavenly Father in virtue of love of Him, and our sadness at having offended Him, who deserves above all to be loved). Judas fell to Hell because he only made an act of 'attrition,' and nonetheless, killed Himself before making an act of contrition and without trusting in God's mercy. St Peter committed a mortal sin by denying Christ thrice (a sin against the Holy Spirit) BUT made an act of 'contrition,' relying perfectly on the mercy of Our Father. (Interestingly says Fr Iannuzzi, Peter made that repentance before the Apostles who became the first Bishops, affirming the Sacrament of Confession). And so may be suggested, that all sin is an act of ignorance. For sin dims the intellect. Or as Aquinas so bluntly put it, sin makes us stupid. And that, as in Hitchen's case, the Church's tradition that persons who fall to Hell's eternal abyss, WANT to go there, seems to be the case. . . . May Christ save us. Mother Mary lead us. St Joseph protect us.
