@@redfaux74 I'm thinking man started to invent answers to how he came to exist right around the time when his brain had evolved to a point beyond the ability the speak cohesively.. Current science and historical evidence has that at somewhere between 50000 and 150000 years ago. (the bible says the earth is 6000 years old).

I think we need to get to the crunch of why religion still exists today and that is, THE FEAR OF DEATH. If the ridiculous notion of eternal life was struck from all religious teachings no one would give a fuck about any of it...no one! The day we accept the fact that death is final is the day we start living...

I’ll quote just a small part of Bill Zuersher’s great book “Seeing Through Christianity” - Christianity teaches that the world was created by an omnipotent god who loves it. “For God so loved the world…” (John 3:16). In fact, “God is love” (1 John 4:8). These are surprising assertions since every man, woman, plant, and animal dies, often following great suffering. Why would a loving deity create a world in which the only way animals can feed themselves is to kill and devour? One animal’s horrific death is another’s life-sustaining meal. A gazelle’s throat is torn off by a lioness with hungry cubs; a rabbit thrashes desperately as a snake begins to swallow and digest it; a caterpillar is eaten alive from the inside because a wasp has injected its eggs into it. Is this how a creator-god manifests love? Carnivores are not the only killers. Herbivores kill plants, or parts of plants, as they eat them. All food was alive until recently. The basic requirement of animal life is killing and eating. And plants? Plants draw nutrients from dead plants and animals. They too live on death. Human beings are at the top of the food chain, but this provides only partial, and only temporary, relief. Why do human babies suffer and die of leukemia or malaria? Malaria kills a child every minute. Is this how a creator-god manifests love?

@mnamhie

@@unknownorigin7433 The material is knowable. Concrete. Able to be fully sensed. The spiritual world comes from these senses. When you die everything dies with you. You can make up all sorts of spiritual realms and indeed Man has done so from the beginning. But all is the here and now. Carpe diem! Everything before this moment in time is just a fading memory. Everything after is only a hope, a dream, your imagination.

Additional to “for God so loved the world ...” Christians believe that the vast majority of all humans, present and already passed away, will be tortured for eternity by this “loving” god. What kind of love is that? Christians’ tacit approval of this, marked by their expressed faith, but based on absolutely no evidence, reveals their horrid nature.
@redfaux74
@redfaux74 3 года назад
None of what Hitchens said was based on facts, just his doubt in religion. No one goes to hell because God wants them to be tortured. Hell was not made for humans. It was made for the devil and his followers. People choose to follow evil. If you follow a path that leads to eternal torment then you end up in a place of eternal torment. Just like if you find a path that leads to eternal bliss and you reject it then you reject eternal bliss. That's pretty simple. I find it quite funny how ignorant people are. Many atheists believe in life on other planets but cannot conceive of a being much higher than themselves. When you stop to think about that, even for a brief moment, you are baffled by the sheer stupidity. They destroy everything their beliefs are built upon and then mock others who believe in something very similar, only higher. But believe what you want. Justice is real.
@mnamhie
@mnamhie 3 года назад
@@redfaux74 There you go, spouting off fantastic BS as if it were evident fact. Stick to what we all know and your opinions will be better received and more respected. You have only faith and you believe in things you know nothing about. The character of the loving god portrayed in your scriptures speaks for itself. Stop believing in ancient myths and make yourself useful to the world.

@@redfaux74 I was in Christianity for years before leaving the church some 20 years ago now. I believe in a higher power, but I don't believe He created humanity with the intention of sending them to hell. If God is indeed all knowing then why create such a mess to start with. Does He not know the end to the beginning? Some say He created the opposite of love so that we would know what true love is. That makes sense to a certain extent. Kind of like being out in the cold weather. If all we knew was cold weather we could not have an appreciation for nice weather. That is my only logical thinking if you want to call it that. I simply cannot fathom how a loving God would create something knowing the outcome and then turn around and blame us for it. For example, if He created me knowing I'd be a screw up and knowing in the end He was going to send me to hell, then I would say that I was doomed from birth because God created me to be who I am and He knew the outcome BEFORE He created it. Now, of course He may not KNOW the outcome so that is another logical explanation. Maybe He created humans not really knowing what would happen. In any case, I do my best to do unto others as I would have them do unto me and love all of creation. I refuse to judge someone based on their beliefs because when I was in the Christian church it was horrible. Either you believe the way they do or they condemn you to hell. Christians are some of the most judgemental people that walk this earth and that part of them makes me cringe.

@@tedgrant2 "Introduced as “the most clever of all of the beasts of the field that YHWH God had made,” the serpent in the Garden of Eden is portrayed as just that: a serpent. Satan does not make an appearance in Genesis 2-3, for the simple reason that when the story was written, the concept of the devil had not yet been invented. Explaining the serpent in the Garden of Eden as Satan would have been as foreign a concept to the ancient authors of the text as referring to Ezekiel’s vision as a UFO (but Google “Ezekiel’s vision” now, and you’ll see that plenty of people today have made that connection!). In fact, while the word satan appears elsewhere in the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, it is never a proper name; since there is no devil in ancient Israel’s worldview, there can’t yet have been a proper name for such a creature."

It happened by totally random processes, billions of years ago. Nothing exploded, produced everything in a very hostile to life environment, lightning struck some prebiotic soup and formed proteins. Those proteins, without guidance, said "Hey, I need a protective shell to replicate myself in, find food, find a way to digest it, find a way to find it...." and hundreds of billions of years later here we are with complexity beyond imagination. @@AFMauriceMD - Ample evidence of what? 13.778 billion years of the universe? Let's see the evidence. 100 years ago your side said it was 400 billion years for the age of the universe. Big difference there. Let's see the evidence for your claim of 400 billion and why that was wrong. Then we'll see the evidence for 13.778 billion years and we'll compare your "science method" for each. You either have really bad math, horrible scientific method or both. Then maybe we can move on to how "nothing exploded" in the first place. That evidence should be easy to produce since you wouldn't dare just blindly believe it by faith. Then maybe we could test your theory on how the first cell membrane came about. Maybe show how lightning hit mud and out popped protein that turned into every creature 5 billion years later. I'm thinking that experiment will be easy to debunk since we KNOW proteins only deteriorate in light and water immediately, not billions of years later. You have NO science on your side. Atheism is the biggest religion requiring the most amount of blind faith, more than the top 10 religions combined. There are several miracles you need before you even get to the faerie tale of evolution. The only thing Hitchens was good at was deception and being rude.

The scholarly consensus is that Moses is a mythical figure. The Pentateuch was plagiarized from earlier writings. Jews were never slaves in Egypt. The New Testament was written largely by anonymous authors who didn't witness the events in question, decades after the fact. Anyone who puts their trust in the Bible is a fool to put it politely.
