Christopher Hitchens's argument dismantled by William Dembski 

His argument fails, Firstly, he said he doesn't like the idea of a "King that cannot be deposed" and stated it's not "democratic". Why is he making the assumption that democracy is a good thing? Why is he making the assumption that freedom and Western values are the best way of life? He's saying that it took years to overcome the authoritative religious rulers or "feudal" system. Okay? What system came after it? ANOTHER authoritative system that has an even greater desire for blood&riches (ww1,ww2, colonialism, French tyranny and occupation across Africa, etc) I can go on and on... His entire premise cannot be proven, he has no evidence to suggest that Western values and democracy are superior to a religiously backed leadership/values system. Furthermore, if BOTH sides commit tyranny, murder, and oppression how are you going to use freedom and human rights as the basis of your argument? Overall, extremely poor reasoning by Hitchens and simply an arrogant position with far too many assumptions about the Universe

A religious backed society has a static legal doctrine that is predicated on the theological declaratives of an omnipotent, omnipresent deity that is unquestionable and unprobable for either logical veracity or utilitarian veracity. These dictats are managed on earth by a priestly and self-ordained groups of moral adjudicators that cannot be questioned or probe either for logical veracity or utilitarian veracity. It is a static structure. Immoveable. Immutable. That is antithetical to everything that has enabled western civilisation to grow develop and adapt. The scientific and enlightenment revolutions of the west that lead to its technological superiority is based on the presumption that we could be wrong. We might not be correct. We do not know everything. Therefore we always have to probe the domain for faults and incorrectness. Always probe for incorrectnesses. It is this probing that enabled western countries to fight against slavery despite the fact that theologians and the religious considered justifiable. It is this probing that enabled western countries allow for the freedom of women to have control over their bodies and reproductive rights. It is this probing that enabled western countries to investigate germ theory and develop a medical revolution that is still unsurpassed by any other on this planet. The tool we are currently using to communicate is an outgrowth of western culture and values. Everybody counts as an individual and of equal worth in society and should be given an equal voice. Democratic systems provide a means to curtail unchecked power. It provides a means of holding religious power in check. It provides a means to ensure that a moneyed oligarchy cannot completely highjack the society as they tried in Russia. The case of monetary control by the moneyed oligarchy in the USA can be argued. They are not in complete control there either. The religious part of American society tries to use democracy to control and change policies but they are not always successful. They scored a minor win with the birth-control issue in the supreme-court but that was after many years of trying to achieve it. And that fight is not yet over. There is a constant ying-yang for an ideal solution in the western democratic system. That is why most people immigrate to the west not to theocratic or autocratic nations or societies. RU-vid is a product of that society. On the technology front alone you cannot knock western civilisation.

Pretty much yes I was listening to his argument and i kept waiting for him to address his points against the existence of God But all he showed was arrogance and emotional stance and nothing more. Since a necessary thing is one that cannot be another way, it cannot be god since god has free will and hence can make different choices. This leaves the only option as a necessary mechanistic thing that emanates this universe out of the necessity of its own nature. Boom, no room for god. I have yet to meet a theist that can refute the contingency argument for atheism😉

1. The world around you necessitate the Creator's Perfect Attributes, Knowledge and Ability. 2. His Perfect Attributes frees Him from creating (doing) with falsehood, indifference and injustice. 3. Thus the good and bad cannot vanish into non-existence as that would violate the Perfect Attributes that His work (creation) necessitate for Him. 4. Thus the world exists with the absolute truth, seriousness and justice i.e for the Day of Judgement. 5. Thus the truth must have been revealed lest injustice are done to the created beings, or lest they accuse His Majesty of injustice, pleading that they never knew. 6. Thus all religions and ideologies that make others as equals or partners with Him or deny the Day of Judgement and Recompense are false. 7. And the only Book that Exalts the Creator of this world from partners, equals and the shortcomings that denial of the Afterlife entails, is the Qur'an. Only someone with no knowledge or low comprehension could think there are other valid religions besides Islam.

But their hearts became hardened, and Shaytan (Satan) made fair-seeming unto them that which they used to do. [Al-An'aam 6:42-43] إِنَّ الَّذِينَ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ Verily!
