Daniela Pet i was making a pun by saying my ipad (a tablet device) was the same type of tablet he was referring to :) But thank you for being nice and trying to help me! I hope you have a wonderful day 💙💚
For me, it's a frustration that I discovered Christopher Hitchens just shortly before his death. Then again, for me, its a wonder that I discovered Christopher Hitchens. He gave voice to my doubts about faith. He was a guide light on my way forward as I broke the bonds of the religion I'd been raised in, and he was an advisor on my path to rationality and free thought. I never knew him, personally. But I owe him a debt of gratitude for his brilliant expositions of logic. We never met, but thanks for your effort, sir.
@@CZOV if you had the confidence to say what was inadequate about his thought you would have brought up an example. Your baseless claim seems to represent your insufficient critical thinking skills :)
@@dyschromotopia Calling someone names or just saying they’re stupid is the last refuge of people with no evidence or argument. It’s the mouse attacking a lion.
This is so classically Hitchens. So understated yet so relentlessly searing and also brimming with irony. His revised set of commandments is worth the price of admission on its own even without the incredible precision at which he slaughters the absurd commandments as presented in their many form by the deluded that promote them.
@@onewaydrive_ Yea. I think he'd be his usual ironic, articulate self but wouldn't hold back with a well argued opinion about the US administration. Probably with pithy Orwell quotes thrown in.
@Matt S: You just watched one! There's plenty of videos available on RU-vid of this great man's wit and wisdom. Though Hitch may no longer physically among us, at least he lives on in the RU-vid-sphere.
@@basketvector7311 I just said there's a lot more than just this item of Hitchens on RU-vid. I didn't care if Matt S. was going "flat out" trying to be "iron-ic"(get it? "flat out", "Iron[ic]" Boom-Boom).
The greatest of all time. I can't get enough of him, thank goodness there is so much of his content online. The world lost a brilliant mind when he passed.
Christopher Hitchens wove words into a beautiful tapestry. In my head, all of the thoughts on a given idea whirl around but when I read Christopher on the same idea, it feels like he captured all of those whirling thoughts and ordered them into one perfectly lucid precis and gave them back to me. Genius! I never met the man but I sure do miss him.
@Unprofitable Servant Your god made Satan. YOU believe in Satan You are the Satanist. I'm convinced that he is another fiction in the same fairy tale you love so dear.
Hitch stood up for his beliefs and was fearless in doing so. Incredibly articulate in supporting his arguments and rationality. A figure sorely missed in a society scared to speak their mind and have a dialogue with those that disagree with them.
You all realize he was just an author right ? Not a genius and not brilliant. I mean he literally killed himself by being a addict and a slave to smokes and booze .
Greg Smith Yes he was an author. But in his writings about religion he was a master about pointing out it’s barbaric nature and just how irrational it is. He was also a tactical debater and never needed to attack his opponents character for the win. But of course , this is JUST an opinion.
Probably the most well read and informative orator of the 20th century. I could listen to Mr Hitchens talk all day, everyday. I hope you have found the world that you craved for.
Christopher was an intellectual ninja. Although he is gone, and immeasurably missed. He did pave the way for others, who have become giants in their own right. The legacy continues.
@@chrissonofpear1384 Deuteronomy 22-20-1.. Says ... Take whores to their fathers door and stone them to death... This was a test... Keep fighting the good fight.
Wow, I hadn't seen this little beautiful piece before. The man has been dead for seven years and still he shows up with his wisdom. Thank you Hitch. I wish I had known of you, when you were still alive. But I conducted my personal religion-detox program a year after your passing, and in the process I got to know your talks and debates.
@Unprofitable Servant you are exactly what hitchens stood against. Religion has poisoned you. You also tick seth Andrews quote, that "religion makes people talk like idiots"
He is freeing my mind 10 years after his death I didn't know him till 2 weeks ago Now I can be free knowing I have this life only and I die just like animals unfortunately humans eat them
I just came across this video, so it’s now 11 years and still he is sharing wisdom to many. Relative to the amount of humans throughout history, this isn’t something that many have done.
Christopher Hitchens : a Great Humanist. Sincere thanks, dear Sir, for having helped me on my way forward. Hitchens belongs to that small handful of individuals who have so significantly contributed to the advancement of Mankind.
***** "He had no great insight or revelations that I have not heard from other people." Personal opinion, many of the greatest people are not great for their discoveries but their ability to enlighten and interest someone into the topic they discuss. By that logic, you're claiming that there is no good coming from school teachers that grab their students attention and make learning an entertaining and enjoyable experience.
He gives me hope. More than any ancient text. The update to the commandments would be really helpful in today's world. Simple but to the point and quite memorable. The voice of a man who is unafraid and well versed.
Actually he was not quite the "bright boy" he thought he was. The commandments were written to and for a particular group of people for a particular purpose. While the moral content contains wisdom, it was a "limited, time specified contract" that was null and void in 70AD. The new scriptural contract which is eternal is also only relavent to a specific people. Hitchins was a religiously arrogant hack.
@@3lightsteps intended for which people? The texts are irrelevant as man uses it for his own ego and to feel purposeful. I just think the less we feed our egos, the better place the world would be. Care for yourself so you can offer your care to others.
@@3lightsteps Sorry what made it null and void in 70CE , the new scriptural contract which is eternal ? For ever ? Is relevant to a specific people ? Who ? @Jazzkeyboardist1 Hitchens himself would have rejected any kind of blind admiration. He may have been an alcoholic, cynic fightpicker. But he was one of the few who actually stood up against the stupidity that is spread by religious people. I don't. I just ignore them. The commandment forbids unjustified killing of a fellow Jew. Unjustified meaning against the law and the law very frequently commands you to kill people for trivial things.

What A wonderful human being. I can't believe I only found out about him after he died. Even though he was a proud intellectual pugilist, he was never overly vitriolic. He was a bitter depressed alcoholic who could not cope with the implications of his own worldview. He was a massive pseudo-intellectual and a fraud like all atheists are.
@irish red He used humour and witty language however made terrible mistakes by judging religion especially christianity so harshly without valid arguments. His brother showed it in his book.
Sure people would watch it, and get a good laugh at stupidity. Hutchins bashes the idea of being told not to lie and kill. Where is the intelligence in that?
@@gennymikel4296 Thank goodness the church, and by extension Islam and organised religion in general, has you to defend its integrity via replying to all these people's comments. Is this the best you have to offer the world?

@Jazzkeyboardist1 so nothing to do with this video at all. I see nothing but a sad man hurling insults while holding the high ground by speaking ill of the deceased. While I'm against war to leave these people under the extremist groups isn't the answer either. To be truly constitutive would be to use our country as a place to allow these human beings to escape religious persecution. To do that we have to drop the "Christian nation" idea tacked on by the cold war

@Jeff 725 I can not think of a major body of jurisprudence that conflates murder and killing. Carlin had a moderately amusing act but, as he was a jester, there is little to be gained in drilling too deeply into his words. This is a perfect example.
@@candeffect Wrong, most of the actual murders have nothing to do with theism or atheism I.e. a people's stance on any set of belief.
