I love the fact that even though Nolan practically writes, directs, and produces movies all by himself, he's a collaborator with actors. Honesty and a sense of partnering and working together with other talented people will get you far. If he continues to do this and the studio bigwigs continue to give him freedom, I bet he continues to make amazing films for decades.

Now as he directs 150-200 million dollar pictures (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception), but puts a huge heart and creativity into them, he somehow reminds me of Nicholas Meyer (The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country). Meyer is also a man with artistic vein, but if he has to deal with effects, he still prefers actors, screenplay and humanity.

@raiderfan89ify Inception was about as easy to follow as Transformers. Okay, that's a bit extreme, but it really didn't "blow my mind" like everyone said it would. Pretty much everything was explained within 5 minutes of it happening and I really didn't care for the characters much throughout the film. With that being said, Nolan is a brilliant director and Memento is one of my all-time favorites. The Dark Knight and Insomnia were also great films.
@bloodrunsclear
@bloodrunsclear 14 лет назад
You simply have to admire a guy who is a REAL filmmaker. He doesn't make films to satisfy his ego, make a name. He makes films as a professional, efficiently and crafted. I'm trying to think but not many people do that anymore. Maybe the Iron Man films...

I agree Inception was easy to follow. I rated Inception 8 out of 10 stars. Under normal circumstances it would have been a 7. I felt the characters weren't fully developed except for Dicaprio's and Page's and possibly Wantanbe's. I rated this so high though because it was fresh and original idea. Yes, Nolan got the idea from a Scruge cartoon but it had never been done in cinema. I also enjoyed how this movie was brilliantly shot and the pacing was well done. I also love heist movies.

@KayWildcat - How did you come to the perception of me having a "one note perspective"? I'm aware of benefits and advantages of being part of the "internet generation", people almost have too much access to filmmaking. Whether if it's through posting "videos" on Facebook, or here on RU-vid, purchasing a digital camera at your local Best Buy and getting your film friends together to make a film. I watch films from everyone to David Lynch to Akira Kurosawa. How did you come to that judgement?

@karanmaxfilms It's interesting that you consider The Killing Joke a masterpiece when Alan Moore himself doesn't think very highly of it. And as for "Gotham Knight" being the best Bat film,I'd suggest you weigh the accolades Nolan's TDK has received so far against that trifle.

Very smart guy. Many actors are glib and even childish; they don't particularly care about why they're asked to do a scene a certain way, they just want the validation of being told they've done it right. Those are the average ones. The really good ones are questioning every single piece of the script and the director's ideas about how it should be played. Good actors drive themselves and eveyone around them crazy by constantly asking questions.

@karanmaxfilms Bollocks, you're making a loaded argument. Your idea of what a "true Batman fan" came into existence mostly starting in the 80s. The character has gone through many iterations since the 30s and claiming your favorite interpretation as most "accurate" is indefensible. Nolan's adaptations are smart, relevant, and thematically air tight. If you don't prefer them, that's fine. However, I defy any attack on their artistry and skilled construction. GK was rather soulless in my opinion.

@JesusCristo2002 *sigh*. I wish you the best of luck for your future as a filmmaker, but you will never reach your full potential unless you become a little more open minded. @lankyalun Clearly, you are incapable of understanding what good acting is. The Dark Knight was flooded with great acting. Stop being an idiot and thinking you have to be chaotic and out of the world to give a good performance. Aaron Eckhart was amazing. In fact I thought, that in certain scenes, he match Ledger, but was just overlooked. Maggie Gyllenhaal an Christain Bale were both fantastic and of course, ace actors Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman were great.
