@@mrbroadwaydorkI did! After all the video wasn't even 2 minutes long, however they said that as an afterthought and that after making yet another video about how much he hated it to get more views so I felt like commenting that and i stand by what I said :)
I’m glad he came around to it! My kids are super in to it so re watching as an adult shows you how great a man and dad he is portrayed as. The man was a war hero but hated war and conflict in the movie, he loved his kids and missed their mother, he dressed well, he could sing, he could dance and he went for true love over the expected love. he wasn’t afraid to fight what was wrong and show his kids why the Nazis shouldn’t be followed (he didn’t quietly talk about it and keep it from his kids). And he got his family out of there, leaving behind a naval command, their home and riches to escape evil. I would say his character is the epitome of a man and a dad!
IIRC, a Make A Wish girl who was dying of cancer had the wish to watch the movie with Christopher Plummer, and he only agreed to make a dying girl happy. That viewing is what made him appreciate the movie. Forgive me if I got any details wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what I heard.
It's wild he thought his character had no growth. Im glad he came to appreciate it. The scene where he begins to sing with his kids is exactly when his character puts down those walls and starts healing and growing. Like bruh ❤
I live at the area whre the children are singing do-re-mi, but heard of the movie just recently. Despite playing in Austria, the movie is not much known here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-drnBMAEA3AM.htmlsi=y64cT_21Cnx3lTpp
To understand Plummers resistance is easy. Me? I hate musicals, truly loathe them. But I will watch 'The Sound of Music' any time it is on. It is simply one of the most beautiful and nearly perfect pieces of Cinema ever made. A glorious vacation from the world...
I’ll watch any musical. Just in the last week I watched: In the Good Old Summertime 1949 Fiddler on the Roof 1971 On Moonlight Bay 1951 Presenting Lily Mars 1943 Calamity Jane 1953 I love musicals!!!
That was amazing. Have you seen him.as the villain in The Fall of the Roman Empire. Not the greatest sword-and-sandal film ever made, only poor performance I've ever seen from Stephen Boyd, but Plummer and James Mason make it still worth a watch. I quote Plummer's iconic line from that film whenever things are going wrong: 'If you listen - VERY CAREFULLY - you can hear the gods - laughing.'
@@cmm5542 Yes, Thank you for reminding me of that amaizing performance! He was a great Comodus! I also liked him as King Herod Antipas in "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977). That was the first time I saw Plummer acting.
Get your facts! And don’t spread negativity! He never said he hates the movie! When asked if he hated the movie he said he didn’t hate the movie, that it’s cruel to say that as it gives so many people pleasure! He didn’t resent the movie’s popularity, he was grateful for it . He did find his role lacking character, but he worked hard to change that. He was an award winning Shakespearean actor and wanted to be recognized for more complex roles. But that doesn’t mean he hated the movie! He thought it was wonderful of its kind! And in later times even came to be proud of being a part of it .
Christopher Plummer has a big fanbase on instagram pages claiming how hot he was in the role of Captain Von Trapp with just scenes of him looking very dapper in uniforms xx 📽🤘🔥😎🔥🤘🎬
It’s good to sometimes have realistic movies, but most movies are sentimental and dramatic, hence why they’re movies! His character likely lacked development due to him not being the main character and the fact that it was a musical.
So him has Macbeth on Broadway many years ago, in which he had a better opportunity to really act. This was kind of superficial for him, but I loved him in it and thought it was perfect in it.
Of course, I was a teenager, about 15, and inclined to appreciate the romantic aspects of this movie as well as the dramatic, but all in all it was an excellent film. Not in the least resembling the life of Maria Von Trapp, but had the producers gone that route, the movie would have fallen flat.
How sad. It sounds like he died with a bitter heart. How could anyone say anything derogatory about The Sound of Music!! If he only knew how valuable his performance was and his part was in the whole thing and how valuable the entire production was to people like myself who look back on it with fond memories, and allows me to think back on a better time when people were generous and loved their neighbors. A time when families felt it was important to stay close, and not only to each other but to the Lord. Sounds like Christopher Plummer who I had adored since childhood from that movie I didn't follow him or anything after that but just remembering him in that movie and every time I heard His Name a smile and a warm countenance would come upon my face because it would remind me of the sound of music and how much joy brought to my life and still does this day in fact that's why I'm here right now. It's pouring cats and dogs outside and the day is dark the sun hasn't even shown its face yet its 9:30 in the morning Eastern standard time, and the songs from The Sound of Music, came to my mind. So I wanted to see if there was a soundtrack I could put on at least. 🙏
Reporters often report half the truth! He always said he thought the movie was wonderful of its kind. And when asked if he hated the movie, he said - it would be cruel to say that of something that gave so many people so much pleasure. He always thought about us fans!
No i don’t believe this is accurate! I just watched an interview of julia Andrews and Christopher Plummer and they were very sentimental about the movie!
While Plummer was very resistant to the role when director Robert Wise came to him, you wanna know one Rogers and Hammerstein veteran who really DID want the role of the Captain?… Yul Brunner! (aka. The King of Siam!)
According to my film buff sister, Christopher Plummer simply wasn't very comfortable as a non-musical actor in a musical film. It wasn't his usual kind of movie. But it was very important for the role of Captain von Trapp that he be played by a non-musical actor, and I'm sure Plummer appreciated that. Just because something isn't your thing doesn't mean you can't respect it - and he clearly did; he gave a fabulous performance!
Him and me both. Ever since I found out the lady who actually lived these experiences was incredibly upset at how coldly they portrayed her husband, I haven't even felt bad about hating it.
Hmm the real Maria loved that Christopher Plummer was playing her husband because he was ' more handsome' than her husband. It was the daughter who didn't like her father, Captain Von Trapp portrayed as not a loving father. Christopher Plummer was in his early 30s during that time and didn't want to be seen as a sissy father, so he helped the script writer rewrite his role to make the whole movie sounded less sickly, his character more meaningful than the Broadway version. But he admired Julie Andrews and wanted to work with her. Thus the chemistry in the movie and the success. The children were all marvellous because Julie Andrew worked hard at getting to know them and relatable to them. A wonderful story of love and grit, especially the real life story of Georg Von Trapp.
Not to mention how it diverged from the true story in numerous ways. Maria came to be a tutor for his daughter Maria who had scarlet fever in 1926. The captain was engaged to Princess Yvonne but broke it off and he married Maria in November 1927. They lost a lot of their money in 1935 and took in borders to make money. Father Wasner recognized their talent and said they should sing. When the Nazis rose to power they felt stressed. They decided to leave and they had a tour booked. They left by train to Italy during the day. I wish they could make a more accurate movie and keep some of the musical numbers.
Dude played several historical figures such as Franz Ferdinand, Duke of Wellington and even Aristotle, and won an Oscar later in life. He did have a good career.
He won an Oscar, 2 Tony awards and 2 Emmy awards. Only 9 other male actors can claim that ever! People who saw him on stage often said it was the best theater night in their lives. He got 3 competitive Oscar nominations in his 80-s . Who else can claim that? A very talented actor, which also shows on the Sound of Music !
He wasn't an important part of the movie?? Seriously? The movie was primarily about a love story between the two of them! How could you say he was not an important part of the movie, he and Maria were the main characters!🤔
@@lisadc4681Exactly! The whole point of the movie was how love can heal . The climax was when the Captain who build a wall around himself after his wife died let down his shield and was able to love again.
Christopher Plummer did a great performance... But Julie Andrews was the main character and will be remembered for a long time. They can never replace Julie Andrews.. but can replace Christopher Plummer.
I heard he didn’t get royalties. But that’s not the point. He was a hard worker, and performed wonderfully! Many people dislike their job, should they not get payed?
Maybe he appreciated it later on, but he's gone on the record saying it. I wish actors or actresses didn't have to be so brutally honest sometimes about films we've grown and loved watching. I think it spoils the franchise, especially if they were a part of it. That role would have made him take on other major roles in his life because different films would have been offered to him
No, when he was first offered the role it was the Broadway version and he turned it down cos it was sickly sweet. BUT he accepted the movie version for two reasons: he said he fell in love with Julie Andrew when watching her play My Fair Lady on Broadway ( said during Oprah''s interview) and that he wanted to try doing musical.
Sound of Music is one of my favorite Disney's Classics of all times not the one's the upsided version of the Sound of Music featuring Carrie Underwood. According to I've heard that Maria Vantrapp was mean and didn't love the Captain Vantrapp until later she actually loved and married the children. I've went how on earth do you marry the children? I've went when she was saying her vows to the Captain was she looking at the children while saying them. Seriously.
Right! Even at a young age he always said it’s a wonderful movie of its kind, and that it would be cruel to say one hates it when it gives so much pleasure to so many people! But reporters don’t bother to give the whole picture. They seek scandals…..
I like Christopher Plummer but when he puts down a charming movie like this I have to say..........you took the role and you took the money. Stop complaining!
It was Charmain Carr and she was 21!!! Not one of the children in real life!! Just keeping it real..and she's always said she was a very willing student!!
May I ask why they don't? This movie and my love of Mozart's music sparked a lifelong love of Austria and I eventually was able to visit. Forever grateful.
