Writing this 2 years later when CW has stepped up their game and improved the C60 with the Trident 300, I can't help but wonder how the two compare now.
See what you mean about comparing two watches that are in such different price ranges...Omega clearly superior luxury and movement and Christopher Ward clearly superior value...IMO! Both great watches.
thehomefront That’s cool I don’t know what you having 6CW watches has anything to do with it because I also own multiple CW watches and if you go on the website as of TODAY The warranty is still 6060 it’s in plain Writing right on their website, they pride themselves on that and it’s also one of their best selling tools not sure where you’re getting your bad info from but you are incorrect, that warranty will never go away or deplete
I own 2 Christopher Wards, I honestly think they're game changers. What they're offering for the price is ridiculous. Obviously, the movement is nothing compared to the Co-Axial in that Omega (my watchmaker thinks it's one of the best ever) but case-finishing-wise, can't really tell a difference.
This video really helped me choose the CW over Omega. I'm rather new to watches and your explanation of percentage versus raw cost helped me understand a facet of watch dealing that I would have never understood otherwise. In my case I'm not even considering dealing my watches, I intend to wear them all. I settled on the Bronze C60 Pro 300.
What i always tell people is that when it comes to items like watches, cars (at the enthusiast level), PC's, etc. You can't look at it "objectively". You're emotionally invested into these things and that brings all sorts of weird human biases and rationalizations into the equation. So while yes, objectively there is no real plausible argument that the Omega is 6 times the watch as the Christopher Ward, subjectively to the individual that becomes a whole different ball game. Sometimes a watch that just speaks to you visually, once you get it on the wrist it's just not quite right. Sometimes a watch you saw online and watched endless review videos, and article about, when you get it in person, doesn't live up to your internal hype meter (this happened to me with the Oris Aquis). All of a sudden the price you're willing to pay for that product changes massively. Sometimes the opposite happens, a watch you were kind of lightly interested in, but mostly "meh" on, when you handle in person grabs you by the nuts and makes you love it (this happened to me with the Breitling Superocean Heritage).
Very well executed explanation of something I hold hearted agree with and have experienced many times, that’s just the world of watch keeping. You never know how your really gonna feel until it’s on the wrist. 👍
I think your spot on here . The Cw ward is phenomenal value . . Like many when I ventured into watch collection 10 years ago I felt that I had to go right up the tiers .and try Rolex omega Tudor etc . I feel with good boutique brands they are producing such great watches the differences to most people are barely noticeable these days .i like having my higher end pieces but good less expensive pieces probably play a bigger part in my daily life . I tend to advise people if brand recognition is important to you then go higher end . If it’s just a really good watch at a great price you want then stick with a company such as c ward .
I think I'm done with dive watches for now. They all starting to look too similar to each other. Everyone's either doing a vintage inspired or a more dressy diver. Even the microbrands are too conservative in their design. I want more unique design like the Tuna with the shroud.
I've also moved slightly away from divers myself, More toward Explorer style sports/casual/dress watches. Honeymooning with my Ball watch Trainmaster legend & Engineer II.
What about servicing availability and costs down the line? That's the big invisible elephant in the room that 99% of RU-vid watch channels never seem to address. And without that it's hard to trust any of them. The discrepancy with car channels is striking. With those a lot more of the reputable reviewers will have a section on long term maintenance issues and related costs.
I finally picked up a black dial 42mm C60 slightly used (still had some stickers on it) for around $600 recently (shipped from the UK actually). I was pleasantly surprised at the level of quality in this watch. I love the lume bezel and the adjustable clasp. Movement aside, I would say its nicer than my Black Bay. Even considering the movement, so far mine has been running -1 second. That's a killer value proposition.
Ward is a budget watch, Omega is a fantastic luxury watch. If you're in the market for an Omega, do not buy a CW... CW is a great watch for people looking to spend no more than $1500, but it will NOT satisfy you if you want a seamaster. I understand not everyone can drop $4-5k on a watch, but to sit here and try to argue that the CW can in any way shape or form holds it's own against the Seamaster is a joke.
I went to "Christopher Ward" in Maidenhead on Monday. I now own a beautiful watch with my own name at 12 o'clock! What could be better than that! I'll be going back for a white dial C60 in a couple of months. Beautiful watches at great prices.
that Chris Ward is a freaking HOMERUN for a budget version of the White Seamaster. I wouldnt feel bad about owning that watch for one minute! that said the Omega is maybe the baddest of the bad divers. just a masterpiece!
I have an older Blue Omega 36mm which 14 years later I still love, just ordered the CW trident 38mm which is just about as large as I go on my small wrists ! For me to buy the New Omega, which I think is stunning it needs to be smaller! Does anyone know if Omega are going to produce one ??
I have the same blue 36mm omega smp and I am currently deciding on buying the CW trident 38mm in blue or not. How does your CW trident 38mm fits your wrist?
Just to say that as always, Christopher Ward is a tacky brand name, and it's compounded by the awful fashion watch branding on the dial, in terrible generic supermarket font. CW, so many people hate it, we're all buying Farers instead, just suck up your pride and fix it.
Enjoyed this. I have a Omega Seamaster bought when going through Singapore airport about 20 years ago. Love it still. As an aside it was about £895 U.K. in those days! It’s worth much more now still. These days I doubt I will spend a lot on a watch so the CW and it’s quality is for me in the target range and do beg the question why would you pay six times more for the ‘brand’ accepting the movement in the Omega is outstanding.
I believe you are wearing the Omega more because you know for sure that you are going to keep it. I can't tell you how many times I've bought a watch and rarely put it on because I just wasn't sure if I'd keep it or not. I didn't want to scratch it before I moved it on to another buyer. When you know your watch is a keeper you just want to wear it, and wear it a lot. Good comparison of these fine watches!
CW continues to punch above its weight. I own a trident mk1, and really trying hard not to pull thr trigger again. That said, the omega still oozes class.
Had this dilemma in blue. BUT the new CW "Tide" aces it. Beautiful wave dial. COSC cert chrono, new placement of makers name. Price only slightly increased. And yes still no cup-cake-case stuck on the side!
I’ve had both in their respective black color ways and tbh you can’t beat the value of a ward. Certainly punches above its weight. These two were so close in quality but obviously huge in prices. IMO omega is a weird brand for me, particularly regarding the sea master. I never bonded with it, and that’s a tough price point with great competition. HATED the nontaper railroad bracelet, ultimately the dealbreaker.
How can you describe the CW as an imitation.. The dial is different as are the hands, case and indises, oh I missed the bezel, that's different as well...
Says the guy that can't afford the Seamaster. We understand you bought your CW and are proud of it, which is fine. But to sit here and try to convince yourself it's a better watch... sad.
@@SandourasHonestly looks like a cheap mutt. It is clearly a ripoff of the Rolex Oyster bracelet with a way cheaper clasp. The face is just so plane with no character, and that CW logo is awful. It's always fun watching these comparison videos where a real luxury watch is put up against a cheap watch. The two watches are not marketed to the same people. Not sure why this guy would own a CW and an Omega. I would feel like the CW was trash after wearing the seamaster.
It’s ok to say the cw is as nice if not nicer than the smp. Everyone is afraid to say the obvious because it’s an omega and it’s legendary and it cost a lot more. Blah blah blah. Bottom line they both tell time the same way and the cw holds its own easily against the omega
I had my first personal expert with Christopher Ward this week and was blown away by the quality. I was struggling to decide do I want a sea master like the one here or an Aqua Terra? I think the CWard ticks enough of the sea master boxes that I will get it and an AT.
Great comparison Rob, I have a C65 GMT that's fantastic quality for the price. However, 5 months ago I bought a black Seamaster and it hasn't left my wrist, no need for any other watches now. I still enjoy watch content but no longer obsess over the next watch, it feels liberating! Cheers.
Just traded my Tudor prince date + $800 for a Seamaster blue ceramic wave dial on bracelet, like new 2020. My cost after trade, $3050 I’m concerned that it’s too big but figured for the price I paid, I can always sell or trade it
I think the CW does a better job at being a dressy diver. I like tooly divers so I would go for the older Seamaster with the sword hands. It's like those new Land Rovers. They are capable and technically better but I still want an old Defender in the garage.
Rabble rabble, logo at 9 o'clock, rabble rabble! Omg give it a REST people. It's their company and they're gonna do what the want to do. You don't like, don't buy.
Newer subscriber, I’m glad you did this vid. Shows the worth of the CW, a company I’m not very familiar with. Still saving for the same Seamaster but will have to consider othe CW’s later. TY.
When you are wealthier, the Omega won't be good enough and you'll want a more expensive watch. You are on the tread mill of valuing based on reputation and price.
Looks like you'll have to buy a second hand CW, as far as I know they've changed the brand look a copule of years ago, which means there won't be any other change for a long time.
That CW is a great buy. Yeah, the Omega is a better watch. But, now that I am retired, the CW is within reach. I have a couple of Omegas I doubt I will ever part with, but new Omegas are probably not in my future. Oh well, I see myself as fortunate to have two Omegas.
Haha exactly what i think, just don't understand the Appeal, both watches are very nice in other guises tho the cw build quality especially the new c60 sapphire is simply outstanding with the blue face
I have the CW..absooutly happy with it and would still buy it again...but my next will be the 300M. Not buying any new watches until the Omega is on my wrist.
I did the same thing. Love both watches equally and the build quality is the same other than the movement. If Omega would taper the bracelet it would be perfect.
Male endlink centers like on the Ward is usually okay if the lugs curve down a lot, like they do on the Ward. So yeah, the end links on the Ward should be fine because they curve down dramatically. It’s funny the Ward can do 600 meters without a Helium escape valve while the $5000 Seamaster needs it to do 300 meters?
Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either of these watches; they're both top-notch timepieces. Christopher Ward is easier on the wallet as they cut out the middleman and sell their watches directly to the general public. I love the James Bond and (Moon) Speedmaster models, from Omega, especially. A good comparison video - thanks for uploading.
Thanks so much for the comparison! You were beyond fair to both brands and I think Omega and CW would be happy with your evaluation. They are both great watches! Looking forward to your take on the C60 Sapphire.
Omega. I have a Hamilton Khaki Navy… wear it daily. Averaging +3.8 sec per day for the last 16 days. But I want that Omega. I tried it in Vegas. It’s seductive and got me as soon as I put it on. I’ll own it soon
Incredibly expensive watches are just because people are willing to pay...these 2 watches, both very good quality....people will say the Omega is better because the high cost...Just not true..Sorry
Window shopping on RU-vid for another watch. Looks like I’m in the minority but I think this logo setup for Christopher Ward was perfect. It just sits so well in my eyes. I’m not a fan of the flag logo by itself but that’s just me. No abbreviations just a nice clean name logo. Blue in 38mm would be beautiful. The Seamaster is stunning but no surprise there.
Ok, no lie here. I bought an Omega SM 300 white dial in Dec '21. When it arrived from the AD, several of the laser printed letters on the face of the watch were only half applied. I could not believe that that made it through QC. I of course returned the watch.
Great vid Rob! Superior comparison of two very different in tier, but great watches. So helpful...for me at least. I have the blue Omega SMP and love it. But I also want a white dial diver. Love CW so....:) Great job as always!
I was 100% going to treat myself to a white seamaster when I retire next year. Now I’m going to get a much improved CW c60 (over the one in this video) with a selection of straps and a CW12 titanium for less than half the price of the Omega. Don’t get me wrong I love the seamaster and may be tempted if I got offered big discount but the price increases in the last couple of years since I started looking have been a disgrace. You can get the CW on an orange rubber strap for less than the omega has gone up in the last year or two.
Their master coaxial movements are probably the best technically sound movements you can get in a watch for less than $40,000, what's not to be a fan of??
This was a fun comparison. It feels like even though you don't normally like to compare watches (like you said), these were two interesting enough species to make an exception, albeit with very different prize points. And I'm glad you did, this was a great video (as usual).
A substitute can't fill the void. My experience has been that one will get a substitute or two and end up getting the item that they wanted anyways. That means some wasted money. Watch hobby is not financially sound just like most hobbies since it is a money sink. But if you don't love it, don't buy it.
You are the Voice of Reason in the watch world! Many valid points made, and the points apply to just about anything. It's all about what you're willing to spend and how much it means to you.
Both watches are nice and I recently bought the CW exactly the same model as in this video and I so like it and it keeps perfect time and really like the bracelet also I got it on 12 months interest free credit made it even better purchase so happy with my Purchase really cheered me up during this lock down and being furloughed great watch for the price recommended if you thinking of buying one.
I know that this comment is 7 months late, but please get something soft to prevent all of the scratches and dings you are causing from plopping the watches on that unforgiving wood!! I can’t watch another video
I've been looking for a white face diver watch for a while now. The only thing that fit the bill was the Omega (and I already have a Seamaster), but that $4k pricetag was a bit hard to swallow. Came across the CW and after reading up on it, they've got my money. Looking forward to its arrival.
And ten months later I still have it. Don’t get me wrong, LOVE the Omega and I’ve got one in black, but for the money the CW is the best bang for the buck.
These both look great. Another one I'm waiting for is the King Samurai from Seiko with the white dial, supposedly coming later this year. I never liked white dials previously but something about the contrast between white dials and black bezels just looks crisp and works well.
Those Christopher Wards are gorgeous. I took a look at the Sapphire on the website yesterday. Wish I hadn’t. It is mesmerising. Look forward to seeing that review.
Out of curiosity, why did you not reveal how much you actually paid for the omega? You went into great detail outlining what you paid for the Christopher Ward but kept the omega price secret for some reason.
@@RandomRobReviews Thank you! I have noticed that other reviewers sometimes refrain from saying the price on some of their watches... I never understood why.
I've had a 38mm C60 Trident for a half a year now and I've really grown into the looks and whatnot. I think it's the best looking diver out there so that's going to save me a lot of money down the road. Well, it's the only one in my one watch collection so there's that too.
I have the C60 Trident pro600 in black and I love it, and I am planning on getting the Omega SMP for my birthday next year. Do I need it? no. I am only buying it as it is the watch that made me fall in love with watches at a young age. When I first saw one in Goldeneye. if it wasn't THAT 2grail, dream watch", then I wouldn't get it, the Trident would be more than sufficient
Great review, I think the Christopher Ward is by far the better looking watch and is an absolute bargain for the price. I would never pay more than £2000.00 for a watch no matter what name is on it, as I buy watches to actually wear and not to be stored away only to be worn at the weekends or special occasions. I think I will be buying the white face Christopher Ward divers watch very soon. Keep making great videos 👍
