I really like almost every aspect of the last image, its a beautiful scene to capture. I have to know why you chose to cut the truck out on the bottom though? There is a lot of extra space up top and from the B roll it looked like some nice grass for the foreground.
Thanks. Yeah, I was kicking myself about that too 🤦 I was rushing because the sun was just about to peak through the trees and cause massive flair. But there's no excuse, I just messed up. So many things to think about when shooting these cameras, fun but also so many chances to mess up.
@@thefilmlaundry I wouldn't really say it's a mess up, the final image is still great. Now you know for next time! I'm sure that place gets nice light more often than not.
Thanks for your great video. I have recently purchased the chroma 6x17 too but have only managed to get out with it twice so far. First time with tripod using focusing screen and yesterday using it hand held and zone focusing. I haven't developed yesterdays film yet but am interested to see how that comes out. As you said shooting 6x17 is very strange and will take some time to become familiar with it and be able to pre-visualise. One great thing I did learn from your video was not to actually remove the dark slide because its very awkward to re-insert. I have now marked my darkslide so that I know how high I can lift it up to clear the film area but keep it within the actual camera. Thanks again and I look forwards to seeing more of your images.
Forgot to mention, I too use a 135mm lens because my large Schnieder Kreuschnach 90mm is not compatible. I also think I need something a little wider. What 135 are you using?
That's great to hear, it's a fun camera. I definitely find using my phone with the viewfinder app set to 617 with my 135 is a great help, often when I'm just out and about inpull it out to see what things will look like. I haven't been brave enough to shoot handheld yet 🤯
I have the Fujinon SW 135 it's a great lens, very sharp. I recently got the 90 Fujinon as well which I believe will fit with the proper lens cone, not as sharp as the 135 with a bot of distortion on the edges. I'm glad I got the 135 first as it has taught me a lot
Fantastic absolutely fantastic. I commented on your last video and didn’t realise it was 5months old. The photos in this video are so inspiring I just wish I didn’t have to work today so I could take photos all day, thankyou for your contribution.
Really nice and relaxed videos you make. The 6 : 17 looks nice, but I cannot shake the feeling it would have been nice with a bit more vertical height to be able to frame more situations.
Glad you like it. I scan using a Epson v750 and Silverfast. I've never had good results from having scans done locally, and especially with the size of the 6x17 negs, the cost to get hi rez scans would be extreme. So far, the quality of the scans from these begs is way higher than I can really use, so I'm happy.
Really nice. Loved the second scene especially - not making any criticism of the first tho!! And extra yay for multiple film backs; it’s the best “real life” examination I’ve seen of film grains in the field. Hope you enjoyed it enough to make more of these, really enjoyed it.
Thanks, yeah the second scene surprised me. I'd love to do more comparisons, although shooting multiple rolls of 120 can get expensive 🤣 Definitely more videos planned.
I live in Coleraine Victoria and am starting to do some panoramas of the amazing red gums in the farms around here. In the foh they are incredible. I use leica and canon and am looking at the Chroma six 17. This has been very helpful and interesting. I want to thank you for taking the time and effort to share. Beautiful shots. Cheers Pete
Another cracking outing. Love the shots, Ektar is my go too for colour work, the second shot looks awesome, maybe the framing at the bottom is off a bit but otherwise very very nice shot. cheers
Actually made it myself, all the ones I could find for sale were designed for 4x5 and larger cameras, nothing really fit the odd shape of the 617, so I made up a pattern and used regular window blackout cloth, white side out to reflect heat (not that I have noticed it getting hot) it's got elastic at the front and also I added a small collar with Velcro which pretty much stops any light come from the tripod head area. Really happy with it, and considering it was my first time using a sewing machine it came out pretty good. All up 15 bucks in materials
I get your point, but I think the general consensus is a 6 by 17 frame is just so big you can't really call it medium format. I'm just going by what everyone else calls it, maybe it needs a new name, mediumly largish format 😂
