Thanks @weldtube this helps a lot I’ve never welded chrome. I’m on a job that’s for the most part all large bore chrome. it’s only 1.25 using er80s-b2 wire but we don’t use a purge. Pretty tricky at first.
Can you guys make a updated chrome combo monster video and explain the stick rod and heat to use I love Travis but the audio wasn’t good on this one with explaining everything. His videos on aluminum and titanium are amazing and extremely helpful because of the level of detail.

As per ASME Section IX - To test/qualify a welder to P5A(2 1/4 Cr) to Same Base Materials,You do not need to apply electrical heating. The Welders Test is to Test the welders ability to deposit sound weld metal. The WPS however will have to be welded/qualified, utilizing such electrical elements as 2 1/4 chrome requires mandatory Pre-Heat & PWHT as per Code. The applicable "Construction" Code to be utilized for production welds guides/governs how you should qualify your WPS..Max Interpass Temp will be followed as per your production welding WPS/PQR.😁🤓......Keep up the vids🙏💸
Get your tungsten real close to what you’re welding and touch the material you’re gonna weld with your wire on one end and strike it on the tungsten with the other side
As a Welding instructor, Please for the love of god use the appropriate ventilation or respiratory device when welding anything with Chromium. Especially if you are doing so in an instructional video!!!!
Also 2-1/4 is the percentage of chromium alloy in the steel. There are steels with higher percentages of chromium. Once past 10-1/2 percent you're looking at stainless steel. But chrome is a cheaper alternative and can withstand higher temperatures. Used a lot in power generation and high pressure steam lines.
You guys need to use something other than trade slang to describe metals. I don't mind the lack of technical, but saying "welding chrome" is meaningless to anyone outside your group. It's also not what you're doing. You're welding chromium steel (most likely with some molybdenum). 90% of your viewers will understand what you're doing if you say chrome-moly, where as I had to go look it up.
tehbonehead most of the viewers no the slang. Just ask questions they don’t need to drag out a video breaking everything down for people who aren’t even in the trade
If your watching the video most of the time your preparing to take this test to get certified. Trying to learn all the tricks you can and combine to make your own style.
Please fix or improve the audio (esp background music tracks) quality. While your videos are excellent, informative and inspiring, the wavering sound is irritating and detracts from concentration on the subject matter. It sounds like a really bad 1950s 3" reel to reel recording. You are better than that!
