its so dumb from google not to enable the chromcast to do that hotspot. I mean seariously... it can do a hotspot while configuration, so it should work quite easily.
That couldn’t work, as the hotspot has to be on the device with a data plan. The chromecast doesn’t have a SIM card or any cellular capability. Therefore you need a phone or MiFi for the data connection to 4G / 5G
@@Krautmaster86 with hotspots, the host shared the the internet with the guest. If the chromecast is the hotspot host, where does the internet connection come from for the stream? The chromecast still needs an internet connection to the Netflix or similar server to stream from.
Yes, but you still need a wifi of some sort. You cant just cast to your TV. Google doesnt tell you that. They advertised it as if you are only needing a phone and a Tv.
EDIT: Worked for about a day or two. The cell phone company must have figured out what I was doing. They scaled back my data speed at my home location and I was only able to stream at 480p maximum. Might work OK to a computer screen but not a TV.
This was my last chance of getting it to work. I followed your instructions to the letter. Not even a SNIFF of getting it to work. Anyone want a free Chromecast before I chuck that shyte in the bin?
I can't see the hotspot Wi-Fi appear in the Google Home app's (iPhone) list of the Wi-Fi networks, even though I can see the wi-fi hotspot on other devices. What do to do?
@@BreezeA do everything hes saying but without the second device do that on you main phone kinda sucks tho it will use your moblie hotspot data and your phone data when the chrome ask for the wifi put in your hotspot name or phones name it will act like the wifi and connect👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@@cristiansayno3936 I did it using a Chromecast from Google with my nonsmart tv which is kinda complicated but worked Amazon Fire stick way better 👍🏼and won't have to use your phone's regular data
Thank you soooo much im currently waiting for new wifi to be installed in 2 weeks time, watching your video has helped me to do it! Plus im going through a hard time right now so need something to take my mind off things, thank you so much for your video!
So Lee - I was wondering - do u have 2have both cells running android 5 plus the Google Home app on both? Is the second cell an active calling in/out cell? or is it just a cell that's able to turn on & "work" - but not connected to any network plan - My parents house doesn't have internet so no wifi at all here & I'm wondering if it can work for me. I have one cell with a hotspot but its a note 2 kitkat! >×} I guess if I pull the sim on the 9.0 cell then I can try running the note thru the 9.0 to cast. But idk - it sounds like they both need to be at least 5.0?
Great Video Thank you 👍🏻 it won’t work for me though 🤬 My iPhone will let me hotspot my other iPhone, but Stopped letting me Hotspot myTablet I’m doing everything wright goes into connection mode then fails every time 😡I give up now, I’m going to try my firestick now,Wish me luck lol
But I still don't see why you need TWO phones!! 😖😖 This was 3 years ago: do you STILL need two phones, on the newer models of Chromecast?? I am getting ready to buy one. Also: what if you are on Android?
If u have a home WiFi turn it off or else it will try to always connect to it. Here we are trying to connect to a cellphone wifi - not computer wifi. Ur home (whole house) wifi is computer related - ur mobile hotspot is a type of *mobile* wifi. We are talking about using mobile wifi here from a cellphone link. Not a wifi from a computer link. Also - if u are trying to watch it thru ur mobile and have to turn off ur household wifi then no one can use a home computer until u turn it back on - so if there are many ppl in ur house then they cant surf the net on a larger screen than their cellphone unless they also have their own hotspot and can connect to their laptop or tablet while u watch chromecast from your two cells (casting to the tv) I hope this comment helped. I know its extremely frustrating! I'm going to try this myself when I get my other cell. My question is I dont know if the Google Home app has 2b loaded onto both cells or just the one. Plus - I guess I'm going to have to pull the Sim out of the second cell when I try it & I guess the primary first cell has to be running at least Android 5.0? Or maybe they both do? Guess I'll post thoz questions to lee direct up top... Hope ur able to get it to connect!
We should be able to open up RU-vid on our phone and press play and hit the cast button on our TVs with built-in Chromecast and it should hook right up but we can't we got to do all this stupid shit what the fuck is the point of paying for phone service if they won't let us use it for the way we want to like we want to cast what's the point if you have an Xbox and you have Wi-Fi you don't even need to bother with this crap the only reason I want to use it is because my Wi-Fi is down so when our Wi-Fi is down our phone service is useless unless we want to stare at our little phone.
Chromecast needs WiFi. The WiFi network comes from the phone with a data sim in it. The Chromecast and second device make use of the WiFi hotspot. The point is you don’t need home WiFi. As described in the video I switched my home WiFi off.
Ok so I’m a bit confused, I have a sim with data on my phone but it works without wifi. So when I follow your video no wifi connection comes up for me to choose.
When i turn pn my hotspot, it connects both to my chromecaast and the phone i used like in the tutorial, can i block or remove the phone from my hotspot without it not changing anything?
Very good explanation. Let me try so in emergency period if my home router does not turn on, I can use chromecast with my old iphone 4s,5, Samsung tab S5e, samsung grand2, Samsung A9,Samsung A70,Samsung S10 lite , Samsung S20 plus with my Samsung S22 Ultra thx.
I have only ONE phone and Chromecast. No WIFI here. Hotspot only. Connecting happens but impossible to predict- sometimes instant but most times HOURS of switching and rebooting everything, even with Google home. FRUSTRATED!!! Can you telly me why???
My method was using an extra device. Some of the comments have mentioned being able to use just one device. Better off with a fire stick or Roku as they have their own os and work independently
I just bought one, asked everyone in the shop can I cast using my mobile data Yes was the answer.... Why would Google make a product that is unable to actually use mobile data Make a product to cast from a phone... But if you have wifi you would not need this device wtf
I don't have to use two devices for this. I never have either, worked the same when I had my old phone. Currently I have a Samsung Note 10 and I'm connecting to a non-smart TV.
Feel like I'm doing something completely wrong here, hotspot is on my mobile, other mobile I dont use, WiFi off, no sim card. When I go on Google home it just states not connected to Internet and I can't go any further
It doesn't work.. my chromecast is in the TV.. all WiFi switched off but mobile hotspot on but saying can't find a device 🤷♀️ not as simple as the video makes out.
How can you do this trick with an Iphone and a macbook? The Google Home app is only available for iPhone and iPad in the App store, when I try to download it from my computer.
How do I do this if I cannot for any reason turn my wifi off? It’s connect to a battery pack and my home security so I absolutely can’t turn it off, is there any way around it?
At some point you’ll need the internet for content that is only available online. Although some services support downloads when you do have an internet connection. You may be able to cast these downloads without an internet connection Or use airplay, miracast or a cable to connect to you display There is a video that RU-vid deleted, even though it broke no rules. It’s on Odysee same channel name as this This hasn’t been deleted How to watch Netflix & BBC iPlayer with slow or no Internet, No Buffering ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LAWdHSenxRQ.html
this video is very helpful! clear instructions, it's such a shame that you do require 2 devices though. is there a way to use the same phone as the wifi router AND the device that you're casting from? i only have one phone, and no tablet/laptop. thanks
I've tried everything do you have to have a wifi box to connect to tv i have a ss7 and ss8+ . Help! An do you have to have both phones working or internet service turned on a laptop for a for it to work.
No WiFi box. 1 phone with a SIM card. 1 phone, iPad, Android tablet (doesn’t need data). The phone with mobile data acts like a router supplying WiFi to the Chromecast and second device.
Question. I want to cast Netflix from my phone through my girlfriend's phone to the TV... she has the 10GB per month hotspot allowance, and we both have unlimited data... if I did this would it use my data without using up her 10GB hotspot allowance?
Don’t think this works with a brand new never used chromecast in this case an Ultra, we tried with several devices the ipad is using an iPhones working hotspot but will just timeout and not connect after entering the personal hotspot password.
leepspvideo thanks I tried that didn’t have any luck:( but I changed my hotspot name from Chris’s iphone to iPhone and it seemed to do the trick. I was hoping the chromecast would have had a peer to peer mode and thought guest was similar, with appletv I can stream anything from my phone/ipad to the appletv or homepod without an internet connection or WiFi on which has been handy as I’m locked down without WiFi, hoped the chromecast would have been able to do the same but hasn’t worked for me, I have to be always connected to a hotspot ... unless I’m totally missing something, just bought the ultra today too oh well.
@@leepspvideo Of course it's tethering; that's not what I'm asking. My carrier does not charge extra for tethering, but I do get throttled for tethered a hot-spot at a certain point... I had been using Fox-Fi with good results but it has become intermittent.
I just bought a Chromecast to use with my Android smartphone but I didn't have a second device so I went out to buy a cheap second phone but the guy in the shop said I would be better off buying a mobile WiFi dongle so I went to my service provider and explained what I wanted and I ended up with a WiFi Dongle and a 2 year unlimited data plan and when I got home it all connected without any fuss and I am now typing this on my tv with my usb keyboard!
Excellent video, BUT I could not see my iphone when trying to connect to wifi when using my iPad? I had set my iPhone as a hotspot, but it didn't show it in the list. I tried to add it manually but it didn't work. I could see my iPhone when looking at Wifi in the settings. Help!
I suspect it’s to do with the auto hotspot feature with iPad. It automatically links to your iPhone if it’s linked to the same account. Try something else to cast from Maybe a laptop or a friends phone.
Maybe you can cast from a laptop but you cannot configure Chromecast from a laptop so you still need a device with Google home (different to the hotspot) for configuration at least. Please correct me if I'm wrong
The home app is only for setting up the Chromecast. Once it’s setup you can cast from a Mac, Windows or Chromebook using the chrome browser. Plus android or iOS devices.
My question is, since your chromecast is connected to your phone via your phone's hospot, does that consume your hotspot data as if it was providing internet data to any other device as hotspot is supposed to do? Because most of the hotspot services I know have data limits, usually 10G as default. Would I be using hotspot data limit on merely having my chromecast connected to my phone via hotspot?
I have found that once you have configured the chrome cast using a second device, you can cast from the device broadcasting the hot-spot too, so then the second device is not required after the initial setup, presume because the chrome cast sees it as another device on the same network.
Actually when I did my first set up I used only my one every day phone ( a Samsung Galaxy s8 actuve) and toke me a while but I was able to use my own hotspot from the same phone and finally got it all worked out, now I'm having issues the next day I tried to connect because I haven't turn my hotspot on and my wifi on so I thought I could my new Chromecast ultra without a connection to my hotspot and I guess I have to be on my own hotspot in order to get connected to my Chromecast ultra. Its not clear to if I could do mirroring my Chromecast ultra without using my hotspot other than my unlimited data plan that I have in my phone..any suggestions? Thanks!
I did everything exactly as instructed. I use my phone as a hotspot. 2nd device is a Chromebook. Downloaded the home app onto the Chromebook. Hit set up. It found Chromecast and asked me if I wanted to set it up I hit yes... And it never could connect... This went on for days.
I recently tried using my Laptop as the 2nd device but without success .. but It worked very successfully and easily on a Samsung6 .. Thank you so very much.. I could marry you. xxx .. I'm so very happy!!!
Google no longer support setting up Chromecast from a computer. support.google.com/chromecast/answer/2998456 You could use the method in this Video to complete the initial setup. (2 phones or a phone and a tablet). Once setup just connect your laptop to the phones network. The chrome browser on your laptop will cast to the chromecast.
after using the other phone as my wifi hotspot. can i disable now my wifi hotspot? and use my regular data on my other mobile for casting on chromecast?
@@leepspvideo there is a way to do it. I'm using one phone to tether and access. Don't ask me how my friend set it up. Two phones were needed for the initial setup
