How to Use Google Chromecast On Your Phone Without Wi-Fi Router *Phone Needs Mobile Hotspot Support* 

Wow, I can't believe this actually worked, a very well implemented workaround! I've done IT for 20 years and couldn't figure this out. To help other people out, I have Gen 2 Chromecast, here is what I did. (Motorola G7, nothing fancy here, no share option as state in video) 1. Turn on your phones wifi and connect to it 2. Follow the instructions in this video when you get to the part where you manually enter your hotspot password. 3. Before hitting connect to your hotspot on the google home app, pull down your app drawer and enable your hotspot 4. Go back to google home app and now connect to the hotspot. 5. Continue to follow the video exactly. 6. If anybody can please confirm this will help to bypass hotel's captive portals let us know. Nice job Binh. PS I heard that Chromecast with google tv (the newest generation) can bypass captive portals, i have not confirmed this. Good luck everybody! Now go drain your hotspot data usage :)

Update: If it won't let you cast to screen from Google Home, all you have to do is turn off the phone's wifi, but leave the hotspot on.

My problem is that when i activate my hotspot on my phone, the phone’s wifi automatically deactivates. (Oneplus 3). My chromecast actually connects to my phones hotspot, but the phone cant find the chromecast . Any solution to that? Ps. Im reading only rooted phones are able to activate both hotspot and wifi, is yours rooted? EDIT. It worked! After a few tries,and wifi off on my phone, it worked. Thanks!! My hotspot is messed up at the moment but I was going to buy a Chromecast today and I read that the guest mode will let you cast after the initial set up with WiFi for 1st time (I have just is very spotty) and then after set up you use the guest mode and your phones regular Internet and it will cast . Is this true?

Doesnt work with iphone xs max with ios 14.4. and i dont even find the fcking guestmode. So this here just works for fcking android phones. 🤮 Would be good, if you could do another video with iphone, if its possibile somehow. Cause the system is totally different.

I followed your steps up to entering the wifi (hotspot) information. When I put in the hotspot information it tells me that it cant connect and to check my wifi connection. I go in and turn on the hotspot (because it automatically turned off during set up) and it sits at Connecting to Wi-Fi for a long time. What am I doing wrong?????

Hi!! I have an iphone and an ipad, and i am trying to connect my chrome cast via a hotspot... is there any other step to do? It seems that it doesn’t want to connect to the hotspot... i would like to use my network to cast as i do not have wifi.... i tried also with the guest setup, but it doesn’t « see » it... and the pin is not on the tv screen either, but it is activated in google home... i am lost :(

Ok I went through all the or most of the steps you did however I get to the part where it ask for your Network name I know my password but I dont know or understanding what network name to put in Let me know oh P.S. You should really turn the tv (or monitor) the correct way cause I'm hurting my neck looking at it that way. thanks.

Great video. First step is to re-name your hot spot to something simple and your password to something you will remember. Just press and hold "hotspot" icon. Press on "portable hotspot" press name.(type in new name) Password (type in new password) then close screen... Auto saves..makes it easier to set up

Unfortunately, I can not get this to work on my iPhone.. It does connect to my hotspot, but then the app tells me to also connect my phone to the same network.. When I go out of the setup, the Chromecast does not appear in the home app because the setup has not completed.. I tried many different things, but can not seem to get it to work..

But if I connect another device to the hotspot.. then I can... Hi. Will the 3rd gen chromecast connect to a 5 GHz mobile hotspot? I own an Oculus Quest 2 and it needs to be connected to a 5 GHz WiFi + it only streams to Chromecast. I planned to use my phone as a 5GHz router, connect the Quest to it (which I already did and it connects just fine) and connect the Chromecast to it so I could share what the person wearing the Quest sees on the big screen. I have a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick now but it kinda sucks cause it only connects with my home 5GHz router, not my phone's mobile hotspot (only through 2.4GHz hotspot) + it's veeeery slow.

How do you have WiFi and hotspot on at the same time? My phone turns hotspot off when I turn on the wifi connection and the same the other way around..
