Underwhelming or not, we can't downplay that this is the first bit of love the Chrono series has gotten in a long time. And it's Cross no less. This game needs support, and I think the greater accessibility will help the game's reputation. This game is really abstract and high concept at times, and I think people are more open to those kinds of stories nowadays... if people can get past the antiquated gameplay mechanics from 22 years ago at least.
yet pokemon games will rehash the same gameplay for decades and critics like these will ignore it. Honestly the gameplay holds up, and all the spell animations are amazing.
Underwhelming?! Lol no this is awesome! It's Chrono Cross and I loved this game. It's fine the way it is I am so glad we did not get a full out remake I wanted the original. If it is buggy but patches will fix it up eventually of what is not fixed or buggy so it is all good.
@@veevendetta3448 exactly people hating a game before a day 1 patch is beyond stupid. That's like calling Witcher 3 a bad game because it needed a couple of patches to run smoothly
@@b.b.s7545 Witcher 3 or Switcher 3 for fun is an awesome game. Even on Switch we get all the DLC at least with the Complete version. Day 1 patches smooth alot of stuff out too but Nintendo Life is kind of obsessed with 7/10 and 6/10 for mostly all games now. 6/10 is gaining momentum with them as of lately lol.
I will definitely be buying this. I spent my very first paycheck I ever earned in my life on this game. This game is the reason I even went out and got a job! It's so near and dear to me. ♡
That was what just swayed me. If it was 60, I would have had to pass, at 40 I would probably have passed too, but at 20, I think I can forgive them for not doing more.
This video only focuses on the techincal aspects, assuming that we've all played this game before. 😕 But is it a good game? Does it have a good story? Is it fun?
Some say it’s over rated and not worth the time and effort as the first one. Since this seems like a broken mess you might want to hold out till a patch or watch some more in depth reviews. SwitchCorner said it was basically impossible to play on this state. But of course die hards will argue that all day.
You'll either view it as an all-time classic, or you won't lol. It's a top 10 game of all-time for me and I nearly named my daughter after one of it's characters. Then others (mostly people who expected it to be Chrono Trigger 2) were very disappointed.
I'm old enough to have played it back in the day, but I never got into it originally. However, I recently played it on PS Vita (Chrono Cross was my COVID lockdown game in between Animal Crossing sessions). If you don't go into it expecting a sequel to Chrono Cross, it's a pretty good PS1-era JRPG. I personally got really hooked on it once I figured out its mechanics, and I did see it through to completion.
Well the game was amazing 20 years ago (but still remains a dissapointment compared to Chrono trigger), the mate reviewed it as a remaster not as the content of the game.
I know these remasters get a lot of flack for being bare bones. But I do like how little they change. It keeps the original intact while still being available on modern platforms. For me. As long as a remaster has faster loading, improves the frame rate and improves the resolution, the remaster is amazing. As long as it doesn't break anything. Cause we can be getting something a lot worse
@@DarkAnomaly I don't see anything wrong in what he said. If you don't want to reward Square for an obviously lazy port job, fine. But if you don't care about that and you just look at the game itself, then yes, there's plenty of value to be had for only $20. It's a classic game with roughly 100+ hours of gameplay.
@@John6-40 Then download a free ROM and stop rewarding shoddy workmanship. You people reward garbage like this and at the same time complain about bad games. Don't you see the irony? surely you do?
@@rhettmitchell You lot complain about buggy games yet here you are praising this garbage. You very likely complained about the grind in Pokèmon too now you're complaining about the exp share. You people don't know what you want.
I don’t usually disagree with Nintendolife’s reviews, but it seems like the reviewer was expecting unrealistic changes for a remastered game collection that is only $19.99..we got a way more comprehensive package here than in any of the Switch FF ports.
It's still kind of underwhelming. When Chrono Trigger was ported to the PS1 and DS, they added features like a art gallery mode, sound test, and a bestiary. Nothing earth-shaking, but still something new.
@@saucygoat24 It was full priced because it was bundled with Final Fantasy IV. And just because that port had issue doesn't undermined the fact that it had a number of additions feature. The CC port has problems but almost nothing new cover them. And Radical Dreamer doesn't really count because a free fan-translation rom has floating around the net for decades.
@@ligtningdog6399 You’re telling me that if a terrible port of Chrono Cross came with a shitty port of FFVI, but because it had extra art work with it we’d all be good? Also, I hate to break it to you, but all roms are free.
Hi, 30+ years old gamer here, and while I agree with both the reviewer and Zion's perspectives here, I also think that games like these are what fans of old Squaresoft and RPGs of that era loved about these games. True, the presentation doesn't necessarily hold up compared to modern games, though I'd argue no voice acting is a good thing comparatively, these games had a lot of creativity and charm to them. These re-releases are also great because, as I alluded to earlier, a lot of us were kids when these games came out, and we might've missed a lot of them due to being broke, in school, etc. And this is a great way to have a chance to grab them again.
Indeed. I haven't played this in 20 years. Missed it. This came out when Square was in a phase where they put a ton of endings in games. I think it was a short phase though.
35 yr old gamer here. One of my fondest memories of square was after they made so much money off of FF7 they had no problem experimenting with games. My first jrpg was Parasite Eve which to me deserves a remaster. I remember it came with a demo disc that had FF8 on it. Never heard of ff up until then. So I played PE, then FF 8, then 7 then 9. Also the legend of dragoon, not by square but sony. There was a variety in world then I don't see that often these days. Our corerate overlords lack solid visions. We're stuck in this cycle and companies don't know what we want money money money is the name of the game. Games like CC were innovative. Then the industry tried to accommodate everyone. Which is why I'm happy Elden Ring basically gave today's game industry the finger. Sorry I'm ranting but I just miss heart that went I to games 95 and up. I hope kids today give this a chance. I feel like gamers like me are being left behind or are going extinct. Iyiu don't need VA for a good hame. 2016, I am Setsuna was good. Short but still good. Anyway I'm done sorry to go on and on lol. #RemasterParasiteEve 😋
Something that is under-appreciated is the levelling system. You only get minor stat upgrade by battling and even that stops rather quickly. You can only level up by defeating bosses. This means that you don't need to and can't grind. The difficulty level is always just right. The only way to get mildly stronger is by doing side quests that might have a boss that will give you a level. You also see enemies on the map and can avoid them if you know you already got all the stat upgrades for the current level.
For me this remaster is everything I could want. It captures the beauty of the original game while updating it just enough to keep its nostalgia. It might be a 'new' release... but comparing it to modern games isn't really the best here. The game stays true to itself from back in 1999 and thats what we want. If you're looking for a game with modern gameplay I'd suggest playing many of the other new RPGs that release yearly.
The reviewer is confusing remaster with remake with ignorant reviews like this it could hurt our chances of getting a new classic releases or Chrono trigger
The original CC didn't need anything. It is simply beautiful. Characters, locations, battles, endings, thr story, all the secret interactions unlocking skills. If nothing changed, that's perfect. I will buy it.
All they did was crisp up everything, they made new character arts for the playable and notable people. But not in a bad way. Everything is perfect and theres only a few nitpicky things that I dont like. But it's nothing major
As a diehard Chrono Trigger & Cross fan who has even prepped a D&D setting in the world, it's important to go into Cross knowing that it is a sequel to the world, not the characters. Once you finish the game and want to understand some of the lore (Cross can get kinda weirdly written at times), I recommend going to Chrono Compendium. It's by far the best site for theories and establishing the canon lore with citing sources and so on. Chrono Trigger is honestly more "standard" combat than Cross, the only difference was that Trigger did the active or wait modes, which IMO wouldn't work as well with these mechanics. The field mechanics is great once you get used to it and eventually enemies get better at using it themselves. The slowdowns are something that were common with Cross, so I don't think that's a Switch thing honestly. Hopefully the patches will smooth that out, because honestly that's some of the most grating parts of the original.
6?! You gave it a 6 out of 10? This is what I hate about modern gamers; there is no appreciation for classic titles. I, for one, am THRILLED that this is just a fresh coat of paint and the fact that Square Enix didn’t mess with the formula. Chrono Cross was a great PS One title and it looks to stay a great game on the current systems. Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, and XII were given the same treatment when jumping to newer consoles. The graphics have been smoothed and minor tweaks have been made in dialogue. The ability to speed through fights has been added, which helps a lot with grinding. Other than that, these titles were largely left alone, and rightly so. That’s how it should be with Chrono Cross. Square Enix made the right decision. This preserves the classic build of these old RPGs while making them playable (and in the Switch’s case, portable) on modern systems. This is a harsh rating. I disagree with it being such a low score. A 6 is a game of mediocrity. Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition isn’t mediocre. Personally, I give it an 8/10. It’s a fantastic game that any RPG fan would do well to experience. Being able to do so on the Switch is a godsend. Just my opinion.
The amazing thing is that it looks as good as we remember it. While it actually looks better but our memory always remembers the past better than things actually were and that’s a major win for game preservation because it captures the experience we first had and that’s wondrous
Chrono Cross is one of my all time favorite games so I will be purchasing this. $20 bucks is worth it to me. I think playing in handheld mode makes the most sense, given the lower default resolution. You have to play on the field that is given to you, and Square did not fully upgrade the pre-rendered backgrounds, so playing on a huge HDTV will result in some washed out looks. I am somewhat concerned by the framerate in battle, but hopefully this is fixed with a patch.
Thats the thing though. Square shouldnt have to patch and old ass game!!! I preorder the game because it was a remaster of a critically acclaimed classic but not having constant smooth performance just lazy SE's part
@@kian26master they do need to patch it. Are you a CS or game design professional? Do you have any idea how hard it is for old software to adapt to new hardware? It’s not simple as you think.
My brother had this game when we were growing up, I was too young to fully grasp the game, but would watch him play almost every night. Love the sound track, and the giant ass cast of characters, will always have fond memories of this game. Even if the graphics look the exact same I’m so happy to see this released. Can’t wait to get my switch!
I do feel iffy about this 6/10, not gonna lie :/ I know the score is based on the changes of the remaster and not on the game, per se.... but you guys also scored Super Mario 3D All Stars a 9/10. So when does the original game stop counting towards the score?
I’d get a physical copy just for the soundtrack. To this day, it remains as Mitsuda’s greatest, and honestly up there as one of the most memorable ones the industry has
Also you could not just use the same attacks over and over again. The only issue with this game is that of the 45 characters you probably will only use around an quarter of them. I mean I always use three different elements users when I could if they had flush out some of the characters and game them more of the story it could be better but outside of that. I mean the framerate issue are even an real issue when you can speed up the fights
I am so freaking excited. I played this as a kid and it stuck with me forever. I do understand some of the complaints that this game got but I always felt that the mass amount of wins it had made up for them to make it an overall good experience. That being said, no game is for everyone and this game being so different to the game it is a sequel to probably set expectations in a place that led many to disappointment.
6/10 for this RPG classic? I'm not sure what you were looking for in this review, I'm a bit confused. This review feels unecessarily harsh. It's a turn by turn RPG, it's a genre, not an outdated trope. Also it's 20 bucks.
I think this is one of the better upscaling jobs from Square so far. FF7, 8 and 9 backgrounds look much worse than this. This looks comparable to something like FF9 with the Moguri Mod on PC, minus the widescreen and framerate bump. Plus, the inclusion of Radical Dreamers is something really special. Finally being able to play a lost Satellaview game is huge from a game preservation standpoint. I have to give it to Square with this one.
To be honest I'm playing through those now and they're not as bad as everyone says. The pretendered backgrounds still hold up perfectly fine. Clearly no Moguri Mod but thats what happens when you lose assets over the years and they're not willing to take the risk to invest in making the visuals look better.
People complain if they change too much, then complain that they're the same. You can take a port or take nothing..but you deduct points because you wanted a remaster and didn't get it.
Ah, the infamous "people". You see, the thing about the internet is that unhappy people are usually the loudest...but not necessarily the same people always complaining. Some people may be unhappy when 20 year old games just get slapped on to a new system. While others speak out when games are changed too much.
Loving this game all over again. As soon as it was available on PSN I bought it immediately, the framerate doesn't really bother me, it plays exactly the same as the PS1 version which had framerate issues too, but again I didn't care because this is a turn-base RPG.
Honestly, this looks better than I was expecting. The graphical updates are quite nice compared to many of the FF ports-- I'm not really sure where the negative bias of the reviewer is coming from.
It’s very difficult to get any Ps1 game running at 60 FPS without getting into remake territory. Game engines were still in their infancy at the time and while it could technically be done, it would be game breaking. There’s a reason games like FF7, 8 and 9 are essentially the same frame rate but with a speed up option. It’s still the same frame rate though. I wish reviewers would focus on what actually matters and stop expecting so much from a remaster. I will say this review wasn’t as bad as others. There was one reviewer who gave it a 4 because of the frame rate. I wonder if they gave FF7 a low score because of the frame rate too.
There are people out there proven that with just using emulator you can run it on higher frame rates using commands. Square just doesn't want to put in effort into this cash grab shitty remaster.
@@GingaBishounen122 False. There aren't any PS1 emulators running it at native 60. You do have mods where the frames would be duplicated or quadrupled to fit into 60, but effective frame rate is still that of the original. You can say what you want about Square. They've done questionable things but this remaster isn't one of them. Hell, it took modders until early this year just to get FF7 on PC to run at 60. 2022. 20 plus years after the game came out. So, no. You aren't correct about anything you just said. Emulators can't change the internal code of a game. An emulator isn't going to take away the frame cap, and if it somehow did, it would cause major instability issues to menu's, battles and animations.
@@GingaBishounen122 they lost the source code also you get an second game the graphics are improved it is also only 20 dollars and let’s not forget it’s probably an market idea to see if enough people would buy it to see if it’s worth making an remake of this game
I loved the number of party members in this game. There's not a lot of balance, but the mechanics of every character are fun to try for a few battles and you'll get milage just out of that.
Frame rate issues shouldn’t be, but as somebody who just wants these old PS1 RPGs playable on a modern handheld, I’m satisfied. Not everything needs the FF7 Remake treatment.
I'm so glad I got this on the switch and not on playstation.. I've always that turn based combat rpgs are meant to be played on a hand-held. Playing in bed at night is so nostalgiac I'm happy with this remake.. I don't really care about graphics and stuff.. If the game is good I'm happy

I bought it for the third time (PS, PSone Classic, and PS4) and I absolutely love it. Of course I would have liked a remake better, but the upscaled graphics look pretty good, and the inclusion of the Radical Dreamers chapter alone is worth the purchase. The ability to play on the go is certainly not a novelty, though. I've been doing it for the past 10 years on my PSP and PSVita. Still, it's a nice addition to the Switch catalog.
Chrono Cross is still a fun as hell RPG, score is based on the barebones work did to this edition, the core game is 10/10 for me, I played almost 3 hours without noticing, when a game does that, you're in for a treat and if you´re new, I envy you!!!
6 out of 10? Lol! I’d give it at least an 8/10. God! One of the things I remember is the Viper Manor theme. Smooth. Yes it doesn’t come close to CT at all. 20.00 is part of the reason I’m getting it.
I love the old Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger! Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was also really fun too. I actually couldn't get into Xenoblade at first but when I did I immediately became an addict.
Insta buy for me, best game of all time for me. Even if the remaster has issues I don't care I want to support the Chrono franchise and hope that square enix will resurrect it. My only hesitation is what platform to choose, I'd probably choose the switch version for the portability
In my youth I always found Chrono Cross to be extremely convoluted story-wise. I don't know if it was my lack on english skills during my youth or just that I didn't have the energy to tag along with the inter-dimensional story line. On the other hand games like FFVII and Xenogears I enjoyed thoroughly back then and understood every bit of the story. I wish I had time to play this, but in all honesty I rather replay chrono trigger today. :) With that being said, I often listen to the Chrono Cross OST.
It wasn't your fault, Chrono Cross is notorious for being convoluted, it is a great game but the way they presented the story was a mess. I would honestly have preferred a full remake over just a port, Chrono Cross was one of the most ambitious PS1 RPGs and did so many unique things, but some questionable design decisions held it back from being a masterpiece. It's a shame Square has no interest in remaking this one, yet they will do it for much more niche games such as Trials of Mana. Figures.
Chrono Trigger is my favourite game so I'll definitely be getting the physical copy for this one! I just hope they eventually bring Chrono Trigger to the switch as well... Maybe like they're doing with Live A Live
Yes that’s what I’m saying. I wasn’t going to get CC but when I heard of the quality of life improvements and the price I couldn’t refuse. Last time I played this was on PS1, so I’m exited to get back in.
I'm just so excited to actually be able to play this game on a real console since it wasn't even released in the PAL region before! Actually this is the first switch game I've ever pre-ordered, so even that excited! The music alone makes this game worth your time. Yes it's not as good as Chrono Trigger, but still so much fun!
I love that Square has been bringing back their PS1 classics! Now that Chrono Cross is here, we need Vagrant Story and Xenogears!! Please, Square! Vagrant Story is still holding firm as Square Enix's third highest rated game on Metacritic. A game this good cannot be left to slide into obscurity. When/if they do get around to bringing back this masterpiece, I really hope it gets a remake. Imagine Vagrant Story adopting the combat of a Souls game. There is no denying there are a lot of similarities between VS and the Souls games. It would be like a Souls game with a masterfully told story, something that the Souls games lack.
@@Cyrus_Nagisa I would have loved a full remake, or that more went into the remaster, but unfortunately as great as Chrono Cross is, it's not a huge seller.. Square as even commented in the past that they have not been impressed with the sales of Chrono Trigger.. Maybe if this remaster does well, it will change things!
I do see Vagrant Story (love this game to death) making a comeback as one of these ports, hopefully a better one but Xenogears, that game deals with some heavy philosophic stuff and it's an uncomplete game
Definitely getting the physical copy when it comes out later this month. Then it'll go into the collection until I finally get around to playing through that SNES copy of Chrono Trigger I bought myself for my birthday last year lol
I love turned based. I also love action rpg. I don’t think it’s outdated at all.. I rather have a good battle system then a weird half turned based half something else system. Unless it’s like the FF7 remake that has to be one of my favorite battle systems ever
This question doesn't need to be asked. The answer is it is worth it if you love rpgs. Take this from me as someone who played over 500 of this genre. Or at least over 300 ;) This game (chrono cross alone) ranks in the top 10 or 20 for me. The facial textures got entirely redone as they didn't upscale well with technical tricks. They now have a higher polygon count than in the original version in the faces and are more expressive. Would be nice to see a side by side comparison. But even without a side by side comparison the difference with what I remember is like night and day. I do wish there would be something to fill the screen (something moving or none at all) as playing this on a LCD TV will cause burn-in as blacks are still a lit diode or whatnot in the tv screen I believe. That really applies to all games that have borders. Honestly the game looks better than I expected it would be. On switch the game is worth 60$ and you're all lucky it's as cheap as it is.. This game is going to occupy you for at least a hundred hours. Though if you want a more minimal experience, you can do it in a weekend too. I did when I had to rent this as a kid rather than being able to buy it. Found out it's 20$. What a steal. Well, overall good video guys :) The review was well done.
Chrono trigger is my favorite game of all time. I bought the original Chrono cross when it was first released and only did one play through. I’m definitely getting this, I plan to get the physical from Playasia. Since the physical version is scheduled to release at the end of the month, I’m hoping all necessary day one patches are already added to the cart.
My only complaint is that the overworld doesn't look like it was re-done, but that could've been a screen taken from classic mode. Otherwise, it looks great and seems to play great. Cross didn't have crazy butter smooth frame rates on the PS1, PS3, PSP (pops) or Vita, so I'm not really bent about that. Would it have been a nice upgrade, sure. But for $20, I'm not going to complain.
I have never played this game, so I preordered it. From the review, It almost seems like people who haven’t played it yet will enjoy it more than people who have. So I’m excited!
It's not the disaster that was the initial Steam port of Chrono Trigger (thank goodness I bought it after a few major patches). Wouldn't hurt to port it to the Switch either. I am happy to play Chrono Cross again, though the stutters gave me pause. Heard that too is a problem on the Steam version.
Yall will nitpick things that arent even issues, yet heap unending praise on every pokemon game. Repetitive battle animations? Wth there’s so much variety in the animations not to mention 45 characters. This is one of the greatest gaming experiences Ive ever had.
A top 10 game ever for me, and I almost named my daughter Harle 😂. I'll also be buying a physical copy. Hopefully there's ability to switch to English.
@@John6-40 Harle is a great name! Im sure whatever name you chose is great too :) The music is so good which pushes it over the top for me. Not a track I don't like during the entire game.
I loved trigger and cross and I played them both back when their respective systems were in their prime. Cross caught a lot of people off guard because it’s connection to trigger is hard to understand. The connection is their and it is significant but really hard to follow for most people (myself included). Where cross really does lyrics up to being a sequel is the music, it’s fantastic!
Hopefully people played the Chrono trigger story where they end up facing the dream devourer in the end. They see Crono and his friends die during the battle. It puts things into perspective that Serge and his friends have to finish what the others started.
I saw a little stutter here and there in your footage but I'd say 95% of them are just brought directly from the PS1. The character animations were always quite choppy (maybe 12~15 keyframes per second, against 30fps camera movements)
Mitsuda's music was the soundtrack of my high school days - still waiting for it to go on sale - I still have it installed on the PSP Go Written by Lowell Bell, but presented by you ...who only played 5 hours of it. o.o
Even though you cant do it in game, I LOVE this trend of remasters using old graphics/music/sfx and including the remastered one a button press away so you can compare. Others like that I've played past few years besides WonderBoy and Diablo II as you said are Asterix and Obelix XXL (XXL2 also maybe?), Halo 1/2 on Master Chief Collection, the newest Alex Kidd, The Duke Nukem World Tour on PS4, R-Type I & II on Dimensions, Guardian Heros on X360, and seemingly lots of Lucas Art adventure like games. We need more of this, please!
Bro, this looks AMAZING. Everyone seems to be giving this release a hard time, but the models and textures straight up look like a ps2 game! That's a big upgrade without basically re-envisioning the game. I think it's a good release for the switch
Huge fan of chrono trigger. Never played cross. Have it on my raspberry pi but only have snes controls so it doesn't play right and the graphics aren't so good. Pretty excited for this game.
Less chug but if still bounces between 30 and 60 with some moments of 20 fps here and there. $20 is reasonable for what you're getting unless you already own the original and have a PS3 and don't care about playing on the go.
"Being able to take this on the go with you is a treat in and of itself" Wow! What an original take that I've never heard before! Does this apply to literally every other game on the Switch as well?
I'm sorry but saying it's simply a port is severely down playing how great this game actually is. The fact of the matter is its fucking Chrono Cross. It's an amazing game, it's soundtrack is godtier and it means the world to those who lived in that PS1/N64/SS early era of gaming and that my friends is more than enough.
So for someone who has played Chrono Trigger and would like to play this one is it still worth getting even though it doesn't look any better than before?
Sorry I can't get with the criticisms of "last century" menus in combat. This form of JRPG is way more fun than... well... autobattle in Xenoblade where you do nothing. The biggest problem with this game is... the name. It's not a Chrono Trigger sequel, which is one of the weirdest moves of all time. Sequel to the best game ever? Let's toss the old characters. I get why they did it (time travel), but... this whole project is such a confusing mess, and as a result, the story is completely bonkers. Enjoy this game for several hours but when the story goes nowhere, you're going to feel confused. Graphically it looks great but it can't overcome it's lack of essence. This gaiden game never should have existed.
All I want to know is if the glitch with Pip still exist bc you need to play thru a save file at least 3 times to get everyone but if you play enough you can get rainbow and prism equipment for every recruited character. But during the process of doing this you will eventually trigger Pip's glitch, preventing later playthrus from letting you get Pips 3rd tech.
This game… it IS my childhood. Sure, i players ff7,8,9. Sure parasite eve was great. But chrono cross for me… was incredible. I must have played this game through 20+ times and still found new characters and things. The music isn’t played on instruments, it’s played on my heart strings.
"It's too much like the original they didn't change enough" uhhh yeah that's what a remaster is. This is exactly what it should be, it's not a full-on remake. Did the reviewer like, expect this to be something like Final Fantasy VII Remake? This is an old game, no duh it's not going to look like a modern AAA game. The people who are interested in that know that, and that's exactly what we want. The visual style and art direction is still beautiful like it was 20 years ago and the lightly updated models and portraits are great too.
what is this reviewer, like, 17? Stop complaining about the menu based combat. I wish this was a thing again. So many games have become excessively complicated these days. The simplicity here is a breath of fresh air. Cleaned up visuals are all that I wanted, and they deliver. The reviewer should just go and play fortnight.
One thing that's not really a feature, but more just a side effects of a modern port that makes me want this is the removal of the PS1 texture warping and wobbling. It wasn't too bad in Chrono Cross (heck I didn't even know it was a thing back when I first played it. It wasn't Tomb Raider kinds of wobbling at all) but once you notice it, out becomes REALLY distracting. Especially during fights. Also, unlike on PSP via PSN (PSXonPSP eboot thingamabob, or “POPs loader,” you know the one I'm talking about), the port supports analogue directional inputs (which come to think of it, the Vita supported analogue Dual Shock emulation as well). It sucks that they didn't do anything to improve refresh rates... It still feels like a laggy PS1 game...
I like old PS1 games with their quirks and annoyances, so I'm very glad that this is a simple remaster with little bells and whistles. So this re release is right up to my alley, it seems.
people complain that the animations are 15fps but that isn't really a big deal to me because I think they look good at that framerate like ff7 which also has 15fps battle animations
Do the frame drops (Reported in all platforms BTW) happened in the original game in the same spots? I think this remaster was much cheaper than imagined.
