This is Schala's Theme from Chrono Trigger, a beautiful, highly underrated song from what is quite possibly the best soundtrack of any game. Composed by Yasunori Mitsuda. Click on the HD version for higher quality sound.
@@yourknightmanny the second melodic line that comes in at 0:06-0:07 is at the very least a harmonization if it isn’t a counter but it could also be described that way
I cannot express the level of nostalgia this song brings me. I'm a 36 year old man and this brings me back to my bedroom as a 13 year old playing this for the first time. No other game music hits quite like this games music. And never will.
i feel you! Apart of our generation. I still have my nes and snes and copy of those game. Something you will always remember and never forget. Born in 89.
First time around i was around rhe same age, then and now, and it was really other tracks that hit me the most, including corridors of time, but shortly after and increasingly more over time it has been this one that kinda sticks. The sound, the story and the characters just mesh into such a perfect formula you barely ever see any longer.
I didn't have the chance of playing this masterpiece until 2013...but it feels exactly the same way. I am currently a 38 year old man and this takes me back to better times.
Example of what I hear when I listen to this song: Cry of the Ambushed Date In pain and ice the flow of a conduit is valid to pause, By starlight and reflecting off the deserts that miss the reigns, Like a salt flat that strides the skies in gait of a realm withstanding, Threshing the occult from the tapestry loomed in the weaving of promise.. Poetry is more than a science sometimes. It's a life to be performed for the world to witness. The Crutch of Power Dry melancholy floats the suspension of faith's reprieve to languish in folly, As apprehensive merits inherit blood like wine to drink from one's own bladder, In keeping defense to the strategy of appreciating the acceptance of passivity, For one is immune to ceasing to exist when the forests can scream your sighs.
@@TheBeasty412 100% play this. Its insane the legend just passed, even the artwork in this video is him. This is actually considered one of the best RPGS/JRPGS ever made, its not stupidly long, its not grindy, its not baby easy but also not stupidly hard, and it has probably the best pacing in its genre. A lot of games in this genre can hit well over 50+ hours(80-100 honestly) but this wraps it up in about 20-30 and thats with doing lots of content. The pacing is fucking insanely good. Its entire party cast is so good that your biggest flaw with the game is that you cant use them all at the same time. This game wastes no time, but provides massive content. For a game that literally translates into a Time Cause(event, exist, situation etc..) it sure doesnt waste it. I recommend the steam version, or PS1 emulated version. This was also the first game in history to have New game Plus as an actual defined feature. Its actually astounding how well paced and designed this game is.
RIP indeed, im replaying the game now and hit this portion of the game :((( i know he didnt make the music but his character designs are everywhere here.
God why is this comment everywhere. It is sad yeah rip, BUT STOP WRITING IT EVERYWHERE WHY HERE? TALK ABOUT YASUNORI MITSUDA NOT AKIRA WHO MADE SOME ART ON THIS. God this always happens when someone dies.
I used to have this game on my Super Nintendo, not knowing at the time I was playing one of the most important video games ever created. What I took from it at the time was “wow, this is amazing” replaying it over and over again made me realize, the team that gave us this gem were actually, giving us something so important and trying to help us. Thank you, a lot of the data on this cartridge still goes over so many peoples heads, truly a masterpiece with secrets yet to be uncovered.
I had the privilege of playing this when it first came out on the Super Nintendo me and my brothers we split our money paid over a hundred bucks. Just a masterpiece role playing game during the Golden age of video games always seem like there was one good RPG after another during that time but this one definitely sticks out. Almost 30 years later for myself for some reason the character of Shala sticks out to me , she epitomized true woman virtue, it's almost as Lavos just came for her, and this song just brings out those beautiful, tragic tears of lament. Truly sublime.
@@SkyStream-lt4dz I'm 28 years old. I don't think I ever done that in my life. And if I did (on instagram probably) it's because I was right about my opinion - and this isn't the exception. 1- Lavos is just a parasite with no consciousness. 2- For a theme that sounds melancholic a lamenting, the word "sublime" surely sounds pretentious as fuck and stupid as well. Specially with that "truly" sprinkled along with it. 3- He mispelt her name. Fatal mistake. And I bet he doesn't even know her original Japanese name, 'Sarah.' At least, I could've won this bet when this comment was made. Don't assume things. You don't have psychic powers. Any other stupid comment? Why did you think I wrote that to begin with?
@@osterbuuny3083nah, hardly anyone agreed with him when he said Schala's theme is garbage, and tried to rewrite about the Mystics. Which is beyond cringe lol
@@yourknightmanny what are you talking about schala doesnt get a happy ending in this game this piece is about her strugles with her mother her misiterios power. this is absoultuly one of the best pieces
purple is the mixture of red and blue blue is the color of ice, snow, the ocean and sky in art representations red is the color of blood, passion, fire, anger, and so on she's mastered both elements in previous concept art maybe what does that have to do with this melody anyway?
Such a tragic character, all her screen time is just too sad, first her father dies, then her mother becomes greedy for power, then her younger brother gets sent to god knows where and finally the whole kingdom gets destroyed.
what on earth is up with what song RU-vid Music thinks this is, it says the original track in Japanese, but when you click on it it goes to some crazy rap song :Þ
@@drakonra25 not only this was sampled, he also sampled secret of the forest in the second part of the song that samples this theme. Never been and never been part II are the songs that uses ct samples.

I love Schala she is a goddess imho. If fictional character like YHWH, Allah and other deities can be called such than someone as pure, gentle, open minded, and long suffering like Schala can be as such.
@@aeoninfinity247 the game is 100% a great game and it completes the charactar of shala. that actully was one of the biggist resones they made it. plus the soundtrack to chrono cross is amazing as well
@@retexcrafted it might complete the character of Schala, but it left the story of Magus unfinished. and the good ending for both is yet to be seen. maybe Magus can get the happy ending even while having a tight grip on his desire of power - avoiding King Zeal's fate.
@@yourknightmanny yeah that is fir but i do think his charactars is complete enough. and while magus doesnt get a happy ending that suits him. but still yeah
