@jimhoyl music making isn't about getting each and every note perfect, it's about getting what you believed to be the composer's intent across to the audience. of course, a performance shouldn't be shitty as hell, but this was an excellent performance.
He did mess up at 1:47 -- and it is endearing, because it is real. His taste faults him at times, it is true, but it is also true that he is an absolutely brilliant violinist with unlimited possibilities
Amazing... it actually looks like he's sightreading in some parts, but I refuse to believe it because if it's true I'm gonna smash my violin against the wall
You know what I think? It's possible he never played this piece before this concert, but maybe he was asked to play it and he had to learn it in, like, 2 or 3 days. I mean, why else would he play with the parts? And if my theory is correct, it makes him even more awesome than he already is! :)
... if before the Great Masters of the Past, while on stage, tried to outdo each other in terms of musicality(the perfect,or near-perfect, technique was NEVER an issue),this couple on stage does its best to be as antimusical,robot-like,as possible.A perfect illustration ,an embodiment if you will, of "A stereotypical Asian player". And PLZ,don`t get me wrong here,no racial slurs implied, i do have to admit it with much of regret...((
