Aiza Ali I think at the beginning of the show writers didn't intend to Chuck really loves Blair, it was all about Blair/Nate/Serena and Dan, Chuck was an antagonist (Chuck saw Blair more as his prize or as his challenge). In the first season 1 final episode (A thin line between Nate and Chuck) Chuck told his true feelings to Blair, that in fact he didn't love her. It was after writers return to work, after their thing in 2007 (when season 1 new episodes appeared), like if they changed their mind between Chuck and Blair.

Good theory, and I can agree with you on the main part. I don't think either of them loved the other at the beggining of their affair: Chuck saw her as a challanged - as you mentioned - but really he admired her for her strenght and fearlessnes. For Blair, Chuck was partly a tool for revenge, mostly a guy who finally appreciates her for who she is - as opposed to Nate, who was the prince charming of the class, but she always had to play the nice and perfect princess on his arm. At the end of 1x13 (The thin line between Chuck and Nate), Chuck didn't lie that he doesn't love her, it was true, but his motives were not - if he was attracted by her innocence, he wouldn't sleep with her after the limo. I think he lost respect for her, when she came to him begging, and he only got it back, when he saw her getting up from the ground and being her scheming self again with Giorgina. I think that was the beggining of their "love".

@@nofybn7794 Agreed. He felt something for her-she was not like the other girls for him though I'm not sure he himself thought he had a crush. I don't think he went there consciously in his head given that she was always Nate's girlfriend for as long as he could remember, but subconsciously he was always partial to her and respected her.
