Dolly Parton once said that Linda Ronstadt was the only singer she had ever met who could literally sing anything and make it sound good. That is really high praise.
steve conn - As much as I love both Patsy and Judy, could they do rock, country (of course Patsy), opera, standards (of course Judy), and Spanish? Each of those styles has unique vocal characteristics, all of which Linda had. Again, no disrespect to Patsy or Judy but I'm in agreement with John R
@Natasha Tomlinson I agree! And I enjoy all of those talented ladies, too. Esp, Ann Wilson of Heart. I like Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee, as well. But, if I have to name one, it's Linda Ronstadt, all the way! A great voice, across musical genres.
@@skineyemin4276 Well, Tina Turner was never called the Queen of Rock and Roll except by a few fans, whereas Ronstadt was called the Queen by Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, Mick and the Rolling Stones, et cetera. But, it does not matter. Music is subjective; it's not science.
So glad I got to see Linda several times while she was in her prime heyday during the late 70's. Today's so-called female 'singers' can't hold a candle to her. Such a powerful voice in such a small package...that's how its done, folks.
I've been listening and playing rock music all my life, but I listened to this one three times in a raw. My, these smiles and this joy... another era... or another planet, perhaps...
I love the way the guys are always trying to upstage each other - especially Chuck and Keef. Then Linda comes on stage, just sings, and blows 'em all away!
Actually Chuck is correcting/chastising Keith for not playing it (bending the note) right. During rehearsals they argued about it heatedly. You can see it in the film. Keith should have received an award for pulling this off.
if you think that your obviously a idiot. Keith never once not ever tried to upstage chuck .chuck was his idol And biggest influence. All he did was basically back chuck up and be a supportive band member for the whole show.
I take my hat off to Keith and Linda,Chuck was notoriously difficult to work with and in the film you can see that,Keith took it because it was Chuck but Linda had a gutsy down to earth attitude and I think Chuck saw that
Great thing about Linda is she could walk on stage , take a beat and run , nobody needed to cover her, they followed her and I have never heard her mess up ever. Such a shame she developed that illness, but the plus side is she was there live in the great times, everybody wanted Linda on stage etc. Is it too non pc to say she was really hot!! , I wanted to marry her , I was 11yo 😂
@Sam Spade It was just a statement. I've heard all those people. You left out John Prine, Steve Goodman, David Bromberg, Leo Kottke, Gordon Lightfoot. All great singer, songwriters. Thanks for the links though. I enjoyed listening to them.
@Sam Spade The difference is, these are the innovators. They created the sound. The rest have their shoulders to stand on. It's much easier to embellish an idea than to create it.
Linda came onto seen among many great young men rock & rollers, soon to be appreciated world over for voice and self training, jumped rightinto all venues withn the boys and girls, still love you Linda, seen retirement years vidio, bask in glory of schoevements
Actually according to the DVD Chuck blew out his voice because he insisted on playing a fair in Columbus before the show, so he had to rerecord his vocals later.
Linda with Chuck Berry?! Woww, Who knew! I Love the 3 different Decades: 50s(father of Rock 'n Roll) ; 60s (Keith!) and 70s (Rock Queen!) coming Together! ... Like Only Music 🎸🎼 🎺🎶🎹 can do. I was Smiling all the way through !
Awesome Linda Ronstadt my favorite the best and Chuck berry what can you say but genius thus music will never go way glad I had parents that were born in the time when this music was popular . All the greats . ELVIS, Fats Domino, Platters, Chuck Berry ,the list goes on.
Reever - Indeed! Linda had all the vocal "tricks" - growl, break, cry, etc. The only one she didn't have was rasp but that seems like more of a vocal characteristic and her voice was ultra-smooth
@@pjesf .Has to do with accurate placement knowledge according to the message you are trying to give with punctuation. If messages in songs mean nothing to your musical ear then it matters not where or why.
For Chuck's day, he was one of the finest lyricists around. His songs always painted pictures that you could relate to. I'd crown him King of Rock n Roll long before I would crown Elvis.
That's because you're a low IQ idiot. Chuck wasn't half the soulful artist that elvis was. Writing lyrics? Yes. But for soul depth and diversity? That's why elvis is the king. You dumb fuck.
@greenmean1 You are stupid as a turd Millions of people with high IQ levels understand that elvis was light years better than chuck Chuck's genius was songwriting. Elvis's genius brought those lifeless words to life with soul depth and diversity. And massive critical acclaim in multiple genres of music. That's light years ahead of chuck. You low IQ sheep.
@Kevin Waters Elvis blazed the trail. At sun studios his sound was the fusion of black blues with white country. Groundbreaking and revelatory. Massive critical acclaim for elvis's sun studio body of work. But, like a true artist, elvis went in different genres and styles. ALSO with critical acclaim. Chuck never left his style. He tried to branch out, but the results were trash. Only an artist of elvis's tremendous soul could go into different genres of music and still be critically acclaimed. You'd know that if you don't have a low IQ. Dumb ass.
@Kevin Waters Stop being an ignorant fool your entire life. Bob Dylan was floored and in awe of the critically acclaimed masterpiece that elvis turned his lyrics into. That's Bob Dylan's own words. Not some low IQ basement dweller like you. Chuck didn't have a tenth of the soul depth and diversity of the king, ELVIS PRESLEY. In fact, the multiple genres of critically acclaimed music by the king, is testament to his soul. From his fusion of black blues with white country at the critically acclaimed sun studio sessions, to his 1960 critically acclaimed studio recordings in gospel. To the 1969 gritty country and soul of the American studios in Memphis. The king is the most diverse artist in rock n roll. Always changing in such a short brief career. Chuck was a great lyricist, but always stayed within his comfort zone. He's not near the level of diversity and soul of elvis. You low IQ.
Oh, the Chuck Berry chop and glide around Linda Ronstadt, Keith Richards on base & back up vocals, what a great night that must have been !! Wish I had been there.
I'm not a fan of female vocalists, but damn that girl could sing. One of the few artists who actually studied music. Her technique was impeccable with a four octave range that came out of the cellar to the highest heights. When God made her He broke the mold. RIP.
Absolutely fantastic performance from all concerned... love the huge roar from the audience when Linda sings the “...let alone just to be at my home back in ol' St. Lou”!
I couldn't be at Chuck's Birthday Concert that night in 1987 because I was doing Afternoon Drive at 1380 K-Gold Radio, but I knew Chuck, had emceed 3 Concerts with him that were pure FUN...he was great to work with ! As for Linda, I had been playing all her records from the first day I stared on-the-air September 10th, 1967, at KLID Radio. I fell in love with her then, still love her today. Talented, beautiful, natural in every way...those big brown eyes and that beautiful face could melt your heart, and if she was singing "Long Long Time", her pure, sweet voice could melt the hub caps off of a '53 Buick at 20 paces ! Thanks so much for Posting this Stefano.
Que hacía uno de los Rollins Tons...Linda una Genia lo q le tocaran...ella lo Cantaba...facetas diversas...la vine a conocer Cantando Rancheras el 2020...Gran-Diosa😊🇨🇱
When I was a young woman I grabbed Chuck Berry on stage and I couldn’t get over how beautiful his skin was. It was like the richest silk. RIP Chuck Berry.
Doesn't get any better than this ! An Artist Singing a great back up band no fancy electronic devices just Step Up to the Mic. And the rest is History ! She Makes It Look so easy Singing note for note as written on the charts ! Goodness Gracious Alive ! Always remember Sweet Linda...Goodness, Grace Happiness and good Health to Ms. Linda...ol couple way down in TX
Linda is awesome. Chuck is awesome. This song is what America, and frankly what all of the world needs to hear. America will once again be the shining beacon on the hill.
