Keith Richards invited a roster of great musicians to honor Chuck Berry for an evening of music to commemorate Berry's 60th birthday. Taken from the Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll movie.
RIP Jamesetta Hawkins (Etta James) 25 January 1938 - 20 January 2012 RIP Charles Edward Anderson Berry 18 October 1926 - 18 March 2017 Both are legends
Chuck Berry and Etta James are gone now, but can you imagine Keith Richards or Eric Clapton or Robert Cray just being able to set back and remember this night and to think that they were part of it!!
Well guys and gals, the doctor says take in this video 10 times each morning and you will have a smile on your face and your feet will have done their first 1,000 steps of the day.
there will never, never be another etta james. those of us fortunate enough to see her perform live saw a legend in the flesh. r.i.p, ms. james, and thank you.
This concert was from a 60th birthday celebration concert put together by Keith Richards and Taylor Hackford for Chuck Berry. A bunch of big stars were invited to play and/or sing the music of Chuck Berry including Clapton, Etta James, Linda Ronstadt, etc. The whole concert and preparation leading up to it were codified in Taylor Hackford's documentary film, Hail! Hail! Rock n' Roll. I highly recommend it; it's very insightful and interesting - not to mention entertaining!
Tempey cooper Obama dissed Etta, who OWNED "At Last," and had younger, more "palatable" Beyonce sing her song at the Inaugural. Can you imagine what that would have meant to Etta, after all she lived through?
Etta was Keith’s inclusion, much to everybody else’s distance, yet chuck owned her on stage. Keith has such a great understanding of rock and roll, many don’t give him the credit for. Another outstanding performance
Even at this age, just give Chuck Berry a guitar and a beat, and he could burn the stage up. And with Eta James, wow! They burned down the whole place! Wish I had been there! If time travel is ever created in my lifetime, this is the first place I’d go back to.
What can we say about this explosive hurricane-shaped woman and this absolutely unique voice that ignites our ears with that authentic rock? (And the Blues, Jazz, R&B, Soul, too ..) What can we say about this wonderful star that left us orphans of his magnificent voice? What can we say about Etta James? The words, however long that may be, never tell all about her. For now, only a terrible and immense longing in our hearts. R.I.P. Etta, we loved you my sweetheart. Forever, ever & ever
Oh my god this is music, take note all you so called singers of today this is how it should be , Etta James's voice is so unbelievable and Chuck moving like a 20yr old fabulous
This is historic footage. Possibly THE seminal song of early rock n roll music, a song about itself (not knowing what would come of it all), performed by its progenitor on rock guitar Chuck Berry, sung by Etta James, a woman who was possibly THE top talent of black soul singing overall turning a song supposedly out of her genre into a monster performance, assisted by Keith Richards, a man whose epic career was made overseas by his love for this American song. Pretty amazing. So glad the production was up to modern standards. This will live forever.
