You should get a medal for going out in that part of St. Louis. Many parts look like a war zone with hollowed out buildings, burned out cars and are just as dangerous.

It's that way because the government allowed it to get that way because of the color of the people that lived there and there are a lot of cities around the USA with the same problem . Then guys like you make snide comments about the place . i'm sure there are many nice people that live there as in many of these cities you can't always go by looks . I'm not afraid to say race plays a huge part as to why this happens , the government dumps the majority of money into White areas then when the Black areas go under they come back to buy up all the land . The funny thing about it is it seems no one has the money to buy it .

Interesting. Other than bringing attention to this issue in the comment section of RU-vid. Have you put your resources into helping with the restoration at all? I mean how much could a condescending comment with the undertone of Racism truly do?

Great vlog ! Right in my town . I had the pleasure of seeing Chuck Berry perform at Blueberry Hill in 2012 and I paid my respects to him at his funeral in 2017 . Gene Simmons was in town that weekend for a comic Con and something for the veterans at Rock and Brews restaurant . He attended the funeral to pay his respects to Chuck but the family wanted him to speak so he did a nice little eulogy speech .

One of Berry's hits Sweet Little 16 was a influence to Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys doing Surfing USA. Beautiful statue of a true music legend, thanks for sharing.
@SultanOfTwang1956
@SultanOfTwang1956 2 года назад
Yeah a real big influence alright, so much so that The Beach Boys lifted the melody to Chuck's "Sweet Little Sixteen" note for note in creating "Surfin' USA. Apparently Mr. Berry didn't find that very amusing, as he successfully sued them for copyright infringement.

@SultanOfTwang1956
@SultanOfTwang1956 2 года назад
@@tinamichael8893 While there is without any doubt that The Beach Boys were influenced by Chuck Berry in creating their own particular sound and style, from what I had read he wasn't to keen on them lifting the melody from "Sweet Little Sixteen" and successfully sued them for copyright infringement, Much as in the same vein that he of course didn't take it too kindly to people touching his gear, as Keith Richards unpleasantly found out in a rather striking fashion.

Chuck Berry was still performing about once a month in his 80's. My husband and I were lucky enough to see him in about 2012 at Blueberry Hill (briefly shown in your video). He played downstairs in the Duck Room. It was an AMAZING concert and we enjoyed seeing him very much!! He sang Johnny B. Goode and even did the duck walk!! An experience we won't forget!! The owner of Blueberry Hill (and many other businesses on Delmar in St. Louis) was a big fan of Chuck Berry. I recommend going into Blueberry Hill next time you're there. It's hosted MANY celebrities and singers. The restaurant looks like a museum of memorabilia! Thank you for the video! 🙂

Interesting to hear of him buying the empty lot where his duplex was all because of a window peeping experience. His house in 1958 was sure nice and so is his mausoleum. He was certainly a Rock N Roll icon and I've always loved him.

Jordan, I was glad that you did this vlog, because I remember on a live feed when you were still in California, I asked you to vlog Chuck Berry and you said, No, because he is an enigma. I also wanted to remind you that you could have went into Blueberry Hill and had some great food, because Chuck Berry used to play concerts in the Duck Room there and one of his guitars is there behind glass as you first walk in. Also, I met Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley at the Grand Opening of Rock N Brews in St. Louis and they left that evening to fly to Kansas City, MO to appear at the grand opening of Rock N Brews there. The next day Chuck Berry had passed and Gene Simmons was one of the only famous people to fly back to St. Louis to go to his funeral at the Pageant Theater down the street from Blueberry Hill. Gene did not plan to give a speech because he was in the back, but he did anyway. What a man of great character.

Wow, didn't realize he was from STL. Another RU-vidr I watch lives on St Louis Ave; he is restoring a 2nd Empire mansard. Anyway, that is quite the interesting video, didn't know a lot of that about Chuck. Yes, loved how his "cousin Marvin Berry" performed and called to let him know about a new sound. I was surprised you didn't mention his famous duck walk he did with his guitar. That is a pretty snazzy mausoleum he has there, almost looks like a house. Great to see Jah again!

When Chuck would be out on the road, most of the time he would go by himself and have the local promoter find him a pick up drummer and bass player. Chuck knew that every bass player and drummer knew the tunes and could sit in. More money for Chuck, but hundreds of musicians recall playing with him and being star struck. (Thanks for mentioning this interesting thing about Chuck's touring)

One of the reasons why I watch your channel is the research you put into each project/episode. Unfortunately, we live in a world of instant gratification and history requires research. Too bad those who passed by Chucks house did not take more time to research and know what they were actually in front of. Much of slavery is revealed by way of conversations. Your conversation with the gentleman who knew Chuck is one of those rare gems. Thank you for your hard work and for bringing us behind the scenes. The episode on the Ike and Tina Turner's house was amazing! I wish you would have taken more tile from the fire pit to give away. Thank you for sharing your friendship with Shelly Winters, she was one of the absolute best. If at all possible, please consider Sammy Davis Jr. Sammy was so well rounded with talent and is hardly talked about anymore. Thank you for all that you do.

Hey Jordan, great video.. I started playing drums when I was 2 and in my 1st band at 9 but I ran around in the soulard area was playing in places like hammerstones, 1860’s great grizzly bear, Carson’s ECT. however, I played drums for jonnie Johnson, Oliver Johnson, Marsal strong, he called me the big boss man haha! Max baker, And just tons more in the area and across the river in east St.Louis however, I was soul reunion drummer for quite some time… When Gary McCully and Larry Mann was in the band they both passed on now.. anyway, we were playing a gig one night and in walked chuck. And him and Gary were taking.. and Gary obviously asked chuck to play and chuck agreed but when he walked on the stage he asked Gary , hey what abt this white kid on the drums.. and Gary said.. chuck! He’ll be ok let’s jam! And chuck looks back at me and says hey white kid, you ever heard of Jonny be good? I said yes sir I have! He said well, good I wrote it! Hang with me! Haha! And that happened all before I was 20 years old I was still in my teens.. and I’ll be 43 this year lol and I also played drums for his daughter Ingrid berry as well.. so, I have some great memories that will stay with me forever again, great video man!
