The MOST AESTHETIC Running back in NFL history. Beautiful moves like ballet or live art on the gridiron. Still my favorite player in NFL history, always will be. 44
He really did have the feet of a dancer, so light, like he was on the moon and others had to deal with the full weight of gravity. He was so graceful, and THAT SPIN alone should have put him in the HoF.
Growing up in Minnesota, that stop, jump, change direction move was every kid’s go to move in pick up games. A uniquely talented runner and an incredible receiver who could go deep as well as catch the screen. A true Viking legend.
Chuck Foreman was one of the most electrifying and exciting backs in the NFL. His spin moves were legendary and his hands were like a wide receiver 🏈🏈🏈💥💥
LOVE Tark's throw @ 5:08 to Foreman, who's not even looking when the pass is thrown but is exactly where he needs to be when it reaches him. It sucks those Vikes didn't win a SB. They had some A-MAZING players.
My favorite Viking. I had a purple 44 jersey when I was a kid, from Sears I think. It wasn't an official NFL licensed product but was one of most prized possessions!
My parents bought me a Vikings helmet and a Allen Page Jersey. I played football by myself many times. I also had football pants and shoulder pads. On minute I was Fran. Then the next Chuck and then Allen. I loved playing in the mud, cold rain and snow. I was awesome. I have a son and when he was kid he did the same thing. I would get out with him and just fall and jump and I still was Chuck, Fran and Allen. Some things never change. Am like you my stuff was priceless to me.
I was born in New England, but as a kid I was a huge Vikings fan because of Tarkenton and Chuck Foreman. I loved the way Foreman could catch the ball and ran around holding the ball with one hand. The defensive line of Marshall, Page and Eller were great too. I had my purple #10 jersey I always wore. I wish those players got more attention today. They may not have won a super bowl, but they were up there with the Cowboys as the best team in the NFC.
I'm here because I just heard him do an interview on a fantasy football station and I had never heard of him prior to that. If this guy played today he'd be a top 5 pick in fantasy easy. What a fun player to watch and IMO him and Adrian Peterson run very much alike.
Chuck Foreman was at the EP mall today and we bought an autograph ! He even took several photos with my son AND allowed him to try on his MN Viking ring! What a Great, humble man ! My son and have been you tubing him all night. Honored to have met him and shake his hand tonight.
you always knew we had a chance to win with CHUCK FOREMAN !!!! - got to meet him a couple yrs ago at vikes training camp and stood and talk for 20 minutes and got pic with our family etc - said his knee or knee's are doing fine - nice, personable dude.
THE 1ST " all purpose RB !! " NFL Rookie of the year 1973 and took The Vikes to 3 SB in his first 4 seasons ! ( should have been 4 in a row ! 1975 #44 had his BEST season, the Hail Mary was my worst loss as a 12 year old fan from the east bay town of Pittsburg ! ..*...SB vs Oakland ..Then 1998 !! Come on now !
One of the best running/receiving back of all time. He could literally do it all. Run from scrimmage, juke & cut & spin, break tackles, run deep routes. What an offensive weapon he was! :)
Same here. As a kid we used to mimic plays to NFL film music. I purchased an NFL music CD a few years ago. Some tunes I remember being from the beginning of Monday Night Football. Awesome I wish there was a second one.
Been a Viking fan since 1964, Chuck Foreman was the first truly great all purpose back. He paved the way for backs like Roger Craig and Marshal Faulk. It was a great thrill to watch him play at the old Metropolitan Stadium. We came to see him run, we came to see him catch, we came to witness that combination of speed, power and grace that were the hallmarks of Super Chuck! SKOL VIKINGS
Joseph Valvano, Leroy Kelly returned punts, kicks, blocked and caught. Foreman’s bloated receiving yards are a testament to his ability there - but more of the offense Tarkington convinced Grant to run. In order to inflate HIS stats. It worked too.
@@josephvalvano829 no, Tark wanted to inflate his own stats. (He was top 1 or 2 in a few categories upon his retirement). Foreman, and later Marinaro(?), were perfect backs for that - kind of "controlled passing" offense. If you r old enough (I am) to remember, 1/2 the passes Tark "threw" were dump and dinks to Chuck & Ed, for 6 - 12 yard gains. Most 12 yr old pop Warner QBs could have thrown... Seriously... They'd pass on 3rd and 2! Common now but crazy unusual back then. Don't get me wrong, I liked Tark (especially in his NYG, scrambling maniac days), and the Vikes. I go back to Joe Kapp and Bill Brown, dude... But quiet as it's been kept, Tark was an unbelievably egomaniacal dude, even for a star QB. He hid it well and also, mostly was a winner...ergo the management played ball with him b/c he mostly delivered. And he made no waves for them.
Great footage of Chuck's amazing running and catching abilities. Brings back fabulous memories of the Vike's Glory days. I religiously watched every televised game. I almost forgot what a great receiver he was too. I miss those days. Sadly, today's NFL football just isn't the same. Oh well, at least I got to see the greats when playing your best meant more than just 💰. Thanks for uploading.
He wasn’t small and fast, or muscle bound, what he was was easily the most graceful and instinctive running of his time. He had some power for a large man, but he used his arms to bounce off defenders. We Vikings knew at the time that those spin moves were so breathtakingly unique. Foreman stood out as the greatest pass catching back we’d ever seen. In my fifty years of watching football he was the most unique player I’ve ever seen. It’s still breathtaking. Check out the regular season Monday Night game in 1976 vs the Steelers. Frank, Alex, and Howard raved about him. (I think Alex Karras was still on the crew by then.)
After knowing the longevity of RBs due to touches today, 44 deserves to be in the HOF. He was arguably the best of his time running and receiving. ROY, top 10 fantasy player 4 years straight (1 in 76), 3 SB teams, led league in catches, TD race with OJ in 75, HOF career before mentioning 1/1 skillset.
I was Chuck Foreman as a kid. He was my idol and everything I wanted to be. I strived to run hard and catch well just like him. Later I found out most running backs couldn't catch. This man could run, catch, spin, and score. My favorite.
My favoritest favorite of all running backs. But I must say it has been nothing but painful being a VIking fan since 69. Other than the Tarkenton years, or I should say the Chuck years, Vikings have just not had a QB play constistent for more than a couple years if that. Thanks so much for posting this vid Harvey. Brings back a flood of memories.
growing up in the bay area in the early seventies I lived to see Chuck foreman on Sundays when I did it was a real treat. He is definitely a hall of fame as is Terrell Owens and Terrell Davis also should be. Just check the stats when all three of these greats played right up with the best of any of them.
Just watched a RU-vid video of the 100 Greatest runs in NFL History , must've been compiled by a 30 yr old DOUCHE !!! ... Foreman was My Hero and I had the chance to meet Him and chat . ... Total Class Act !!!
He was one of the most versatile running backs who ever played the game. His rushing yardage production declined in 1978 following the trade of offensive guard Ed White and he missed most of the 1979 season. I felt that he was overworked as a runner and receiver. After White was traded, the Vikings didn't run the ball with as much effectiveness as they had before and switched to a ball controlled passing game.
in his first 5 years he was the top 2 or 3 offensive player in the league. Ironic how both my favorite Vikings Joe Kapp and Foreman ended with the Patriots, just cant' stomach seeing either in a Patriot uniform.
I am a Rams fan, was a young kid when Foreman played for the Vikings. They burned LA so many times in the playoffs with special teams and tough defense, plus Fran and Chuck. Painful losses. Foreman had the best spin move ever, the Earl Monroe of the NFL. Even though I disliked the Vikes for always beating the Rams in the playoffs back then, he is one of my favorite backs to watch. He wasnt that fast, but he had great hands and great moves, and the best spin move in NFL history. Those teams got the most out of their talent. Bud Grant was a great coach and a former NBA player with the Minneapolis Lakers in their title years with George Mikan. Jabbar once said Grant was the smartest man he ever met in sports.
I live in MSP and was listening to a local radio show. They were interviewing Bud. One of the questions they asked was if Bud ever was close to any of the coaches he coached against. Bud's answer was not really - although he said Chuck Knox was a regular guy he thought he could have a beer with.
Foreman was one of the best RB’s of the 70’a and deserves to be in the Hall OF Fame along with Greg Pruitt. While the receiver part is probably accurate it is a stretch to compare him to Sayers. He had 3.8 YPC vs 5.0 for Sayers - not to mention Sayers Punt and Kick Returns.
SO much credit has been given over the years to Bill Walsh's West Coast offense revolutionizing the game, but when Chuck got to Minnesota and Jerry Burns saw he was as good a receiver as he was a straight up ball carrier, THAT'S when the West Coast offense was born.
I had a Chuck Foreman jersey along with Vikings helmet pads and pants (full uniform) as a kid in 70s, there was a bunch of us kids in the neighborhood with full uniforms and we would always have football games. In my eyes Foreman is the best back of all time!!!
There's no doubting the man desperately wanted to win .I remember seeing this in 77', and that's when it really hit me. We're actually gonna lose, yet still, ANOTHER Superbowl 4:36
Loved Chuck, but he always made me so nervous by the way he carried the ball! Very dangerous. One of the best all purpose backs ever, thinking of Foreman when i watched Thurman Thomas come onto the scene.
Chuck Foreman is the most unacknowledged "Greatest of all time". In the1976 He was six yards short of winning the 'rushing title' Yet he won the receiver total yardage, and total scoring. No one has ever come close do doing that since Chuck Foreman.
Always admired forman! His style always looked like a powerful gayle sayers with much better hands! 1the of greatest alltime ..but never appreciated enough!
He is the Vikings greatest RB . Sorry Adrian , Chuck could do it all, he never came off the field , in fact he was even more dangerous on 3rd down . No.44 didn't lose yardage on consecutive plays then gain back that yardage only to still punt , The Spin Doctor always made the first guy miss and if you notice in the vid , it is Foreman who perfected the jump cut .
If chuck had of broke the record in 1975 for most td's in a season instead of o.j. he might be in the hall of fameright now. But, I still think he should be. What is the name of the first & last songs on this video?
Chuck Foreman's "spin-move" inspired a lot of RB's who witnessed him back in the 70's. He was the Vikings bread n butter on "O" one yr after they're key acquisition of Fran Tarkenton. Chuck saved yrs off of Fran's football life by catching record numbers of swing passes, flat passes, and some fly's as well; and also Fran didn't have to scramble as much for his life as D's had to concentrate on Chuck more so instead. Only thing keeping this video from being an "11" for me (us?) is more good/great highlights of him burning those hated Cowgirls for yds/TDs. Tks Harvey for uploading.
Old Giants fan... The best Giants running back I ever saw was Rodney Hampton .My favorite Giants running back was Rob Carpenter. The best running back I ever saw was Earl Campbell... My favorite running back of all time was Chuck Foreman
I think he was six yards away from being the ONLY player in NFL history to get the most receiving yards, the most TDs, and most rushing yards in one season. Jim Otis from the Cardinals beat him that year on the rushing.
Today's analysts will pull up Chuck's numbers and say he doesn't belong in the HOF. Chuck was a one of a kind player and one of the best in an era which included Payton, Lydell Mitchell, Terry Metcalf, "Juice" Simpson and Franco Harris. He made 5 consecutive pro bowls in his 8 year career and in my opinion I doubt the Vikings would have made the last 3 Super Bowl appearences without him. We've begun to see more to the spin move in the last few years BUT Chuck is still the GOAT....he faked a spin move at 0:51.....Chuck#44 HOF. He deserves it!
that move at 6:07, that poor Lions defender must have severed his groin muscle... Chuck Foreman was "breaking ankles" in the NFL, before Allen Iverson was born and it became a thing in the NBA
what a great running back!! You know they need film of him for wide receiver to learn from! How does a guy that big and powerful, spin, juke, juke and then run over people if he has to? I still remember a guy jumping on his back to tackle him. He went head down and the guy flew over top of him. Yeah and Chuck kept running.... lol. SKOL VIKINGS!
Foreman was a complete running back. Although not very fast, he was very shifty with excellent moves. Foreman could run inside and outside of the tackles. One of the best pass receiving running backs of all time. Very underrated.
He didn't have tremendous speed, but oh my gosh, he had EVERYthing else. So incredibly fluid and shifty with unbelievable instincts--the spin moves, the dipping shoulders . . . He was like a great boxer, feinting, rolling with punches, never getting hit solidly. And such soft hands, like the football just belonged there, naturally. Back when football was football, with offense AND defense, passing AND running, and not this flashy, 90%-hype, "it's-all-about-the-quarterback" piece-of-sh_t game that passes for football nowadays.
I was blessed enough in this life to have actually watched many of these games!!! If only the current Vikes were 1/2 as good as they all were............ Sigh
If THE VIKES win just 1 of the 3 Super Bowls that the NFL 1973 Rookie of the year #44 was in his first 4 seasons, Chuck Foreman IS IN THE NFL HOF !! .I am now 55 and THIS WAS MY TEAM and MY MAIN MAN !!
1st play of clip: At the end of this late season game at Buffalo; about to tie Slasher Simpson for TD record by a RB. Catches fan's slushball in eye, leaves game without returning.
What's sad about Foreman is that his offensive line always failed him in the Super Bowl. In the three Super Bowls he played in, he rushed for a mere 80 yards on 36 carries. That, more than anything else, is why the Viking offense was shut out in the first half of *all three games.*
Lydell was a step slower. And smaller if I recall well... Never the runner, tackle shedder that Chuck was. Not even close. Chuck COULD hit the corner on sweeps early in his career. As this video shows. Mitchell never could.
trha2222 AGREE TO DISAGREE BUT FAULK IS THE G.O.A.T OF PASS CATCHING RUNNING BACKS THEN ROGER CRAIG, THURMAN THOMAS, MARCUS ALLEN, LADANIANIAN TOMLINSON, PREIST HOLMES, RICKY WATTERS, LARRY CENTERS, JAMES BROOKS, LYDELL MITCHELL, LENNY MOORE, BOBBY MITCHELL, THEN CHUCK FOREMAN COMES INTO THE EQUATION.
Bruce Hauge yes sir and punishing when he needed to be. Tyrone Carter and him were having about that this year. I don't think Chuck was playing when he told Carter if your coming around the end in my way and your eyes are big as dinner plates .....Tyrone looked like he had a nervous smile as it was going on. As did the host. Vikings post game on channel 9 . Chuck sounded pissed Carter thought he could take him down . He competitive still . Remember Hill Street Blues star Ed Marinaro ? They were great together. My favorite tandem we have ever had in my mind. With Bill Boom boom Brown and Dave Osbourne 2nd
trha2222 Dr Smith you mean? Lol yeah he was a brainiac so he was very smart to get out healthy . Got his PHD so yeah a educated guy . Good for him but sad for us . Loved watching him play football but he left on his terms and have to respect that
