Bought this video/tape on eBay quite a few years ago and thought it was time to share (we're not getting any younger, NFL Films). So, for the "old" fans that are still around, and for the current fans that are just curious, here's what your Minnesota Vikings were doing forty-one years ago...that's assuming RU-vid allows me to keep it posted.

You're exactly right they should have been the best team of that era their defense in my pain is the greatest defensive NFL history Go look up some of the numbers they put up during that 10-year stretch from 68 to 70 7 My God they was number one against the run in the past like three or four different times they gave up only like 110 points in a 14 game schedule one time I mean that was just an overpowering defense I don't know what would happen in those super bowls why they wouldn't be able to stop the run and they would make excuses the announcers all their small on defense well they had no trouble stopping the run during the regular season in the playoffs they were always great against the run it's just four games they're being judged by four games for hundreds of games were they dominated everybody

One thing I loved about those Viking defenses is how after a turnover they’d lateral it to another guy right before they were about to be tackled. They practiced it a lot and scored a lot of tds.

#44 ..Chuck Foreman! My all~time favorite player! 1975, was his BEST season ever! He almost got an unheard of " Triple Crown"....NO one still has ever got! Most TD's in a season ( 2nd with 22! OJ had 23! ..2nd by only 6 yrds! in rushing! ..1,070 and 1st with 73 catches!) He had a fantastic 6 years and was also 73' NFL rookie of the year! He should be in the HOF! ( over 8, 000 rushing yds! 69 TD's! and over 5,000 yds receiving!

if not for getting hit in the eye with a snowball from the buffalo fan in final game that yr, he would have stayed in the game and gotten those Xtra rushing yds needed to win triple crown. I remember watching this game. Jim Otis of St Louis ended up winning rushing title in their game the next day by 6 yds. fate

Chuck Foreman is still my favorite player ever! He is the perfect example at his position of the not so over the top #'s, but this 75' season he almost made history in just his 3rd year! Plus HE was THE biggest reason the " Vikes" GOT to ...** 2 out of 3 SUPER BOWLS in HIS first 3 seasons! He belongs in" The Hall'......& like I said, I hated the teams, but Cliff Branch of Oakland ( come ON now!..3 RINGS he has too!! + the #'s!) & CLUTCH ASS' Mr. Drew Pearson of Dallas!!.....Hail Mary' ...game, this season....I know!!!!....But I RESPECT GREATNESS!! I didn't know Buddy Ryan was the D' coach of this team?!! .. ( Pat says it here)..also fred cox!!! HE KILLED THE VIKES Can't even make an extra point from 10 yards??! Many times!! I read somewhere he was Bud Grant's hunt'n & fishing pal!! He was terrible!! He kicked toooooooo low!! The Redskin game here, 31-30 loss..he SHOULD have WON it! Great days to remember still..**..God bless' I turned 54 years young on May 18..I remember these now classic's!!

That was fucked! I guess #44 is as good as you can be and NOT get in the HOF! I bet if the Vikings would have WON , one of the 3 Chuck Foreman was in ( 3 in his first 4 seasons!) He may be in The Hall"...Great games in those days in the Met"...They should have never left when they did! I know Big $ New Homes, but " indoors?" NO! That weather was there big + ask the players from the LA Rams in those NFC Title games!

The 75 vikes were awesome and would have gone to superbowl 10 if the officials not favored Dallas who in the 70s were referred as America's team. But be that as it may as a lifelong viking fan I would like to know if I'm the only one that feels that number 22 the great Paul Krause jersey should be retired. He played his heart out his entire career. He stiii is the leader with most ints in a career with 81. There have been many good defensive backs but his record still stands. I think that is highly disrespectful to the greatest fs of alltime. It's starting to piss me off. It's time to give honor to whom honor is due it's time to give the man his propers. His record has stood for decades it didn't happen yesterday. At that time a season was 14 games. One day his record will be broken but to me he will always be the best. He sounds like a good christain man. They were reluctant to put him in the hof... Idiots

Ehh, possibly but don't bet you're life on it . Althought you are correct in your assessment about the aging defense In his 3 SB games Tarkenton was nothing short of horrid,as he was in the Hail Mary Game against Dallas. From everything I Ve read, Tarkenton didn't exactly endear himself to his teammates. I know he was great and had all those records, but I think Joe Kapp was a better fit and would've won a few SBs with him instead.

Always wonder about this team, but as I get older I suspect that they probably weren't good enough to beat the Steelers. The most significant difference between the 1974 and 1975 Vikings was Tarkenton, who realized following Super Bowl IX that, after 14 seasons, he'd lost arm strength. I'll never forget reading in SI about Tarkenton, in that offseason, spending hours in his attic. He put a mattress on the floor and another one against the wall. He'd kneel on the one mattress and throw footballs as hard as he could into the other one against the wall. He'd do that, 100-200 times a day, and it worked. Tark was MVP in 1975, but against Dallas, by far the toughest defense they faced that year, he was brutal. He had so many chances to connect on deep balls to Gilliam, who was covered by the rookie Mark Washington, and he never did. To me, 2009 was the closest the Vikings have come to winning the Super Bowl. But Vikings fans can't not wonder what-if with this team.

I was 10 years old, in 5th grade, the last time they played in the Super Bowl. At that time the Bucs had just lost every game of their expansion season, and the Saints were by far the losingest team in the league. If you would have told me then that I'd be damn near 60 and the Bucs and Saints would have 3 Lombardi trophies between them and the Vikings would still not have even played in another Super Bowl, I'd have quit watching football then and saved myself DECADES of disappointment.

No question in my mind Chuck Foreman is a HOFer. And Cliff Branch.....And Harold Jackson..... And the greatest cowboy sackmaster of them all... Harvey Martin. There’s no respect for the history of this game. The crazy thing is that all these guys played together for over a decade with few changes in personnel. Trading Alan Page to Chicago after the 77 season was a huge mistake. Page had 4 really good years in a Bears uniform and was a mentor to guys like Mike Singletary and Gary Fencik. 1978 was also the year vikes assistant Neill Armstrong became HC and the other vikes assistant Buddy Ryan became Bears DC. Who is the Bears GM? The great Jim Finks who took two franchises; the Vikings and Bears to super bowls. Vikes GM from 1967 to 73 and Bears GM from 74 to 83

Absolutely. All these years later what kills me is their win-loss record during the regular season against the teams that beat them in those Super Bowls. Those were some good teams, no doubt, but not the juggernauts they've always been made out to be. You always hear people say the Vikings were good, but just ran into better teams in the SB. Bullshit. They routinely beat those teams the year before or after playing them in the SB. Their SB downfall was poor game planning and Fran's play calling in the 3 he played in.

This team belongs up there with the 1998 (Atl) and 2009 (NO) teams as the most-talented/most-heralded Vikings teams not to appear in a Super Bowl. The 1977 (Dal), 1987 (Was) and 2000 (NYG) teams would come within a win of the Super Bowl but as underdogs in the NFC Championship Game. Now the 2017 (Phi) squad takes a turn against the only current NFC East team the Vikes have not faced previously in an NFC Championship Game. 1969 over Cle, 1973 over Dal, 1974 over LA, 1976 over LA.

The '87 defense was probably the best out of all their post-70s title contenders. The only reason they looked like underdogs, on paper, was because of the 0-fer performance of their replacement team, which tanked their record and put them on the road for every playoff game. Nobody in that era did what they did to San Francisco, at Candlestick, in the play-offs or otherwise. Imagine what they might have done in the late 80s had they drafted Marcus Allen instead of Darrin Nelson in '82. Probably a lot fewer road playoff games, and the Herschel Walker trade more than likely never happens.

The Vikings used to dominate the NFC North in the early to mid-70s, the way the Patriots dominated the AFC East in the Tom Brady era. Of course, the Patriots were a lot more successful in winning Superbowls. Fred Cox never had a leg for long distance kicks. Interesting how in these days many of these teams maintained the same kickers for years.
@bitterangrydrunk
@bitterangrydrunk 8 лет назад
+William Elliott Fred Cox was as representative as any for the utter insanity that existed over "soccer-style" kickers. In the 1970s NFL coaches (even the greats like Bud Grant) seriously believed that straight ahead was the proper way, the only way, to place-kick. Cox, for his career, was something like 2-for-24 or 2-for-26 from outside the 50. And he was one of the better kickers of that era! When the Vikings lost to the Skins, Cox got death threats because he missed an early extra point (the margin of defeat) and a game-ending (long) FG. Sort of. Idiot Viking fans looked in the local phone book and found a Fred Cox. Wasn't the kicker. That Fred Cox worked for the railroad. It was all over the local news the week after the Skins game. F*cked up as things are now, things were fairly f*cked up back then, too.

Would you really have wanted to see the Vikings in 4 straight Super Bowls...only to probably lose them all? I don't think Fran the Man could have taken it.

The one guy I would of loved to see play on that D-line with Eller , Page and Marshall was Jerry Sherk...he was better then the other D-tackles the vikes. had...having a defensive P .O .Y season in 1976...guy had some great years on some very bad Browns teams of the '70s
