I really respect that Chuck was able to get up off the floor after so many years and then be sober and a decent person. Being so successful and talented at a young age, then have a troubling period as an addict, that takes a lot of work to change.
This Is A Constant Reminder Of What It Was Like For A Person Like Me Who Use To Be Like This Over 20 Years Ago And What It Could Be Like Once Again If I So Choose To Go Back To That Way Of Life Which Would Definitely End In A Split Second If I Ever Started Doing This Again Because I Don’t Know If I Have Another Recovery In Me And Almost Died In The Very End Of My Drinking Career. Prayer Is The Most Powerful Tool I Will Ever Have To Help Me For The Rest Of My Days On This Earth As Well As The Support I Have From People That Are Just Like Me. Thanks Chuck ❤❤❤
I was a huge fan of three dog night,in my youth. My fav was chuck. I was very disappointed when they came to do a small concert in a close city, Finding out chuck wasn’t there. Sooo happy that chuck was able to get the help he needed and turned his life around.
I remember reading in some newspaper a very long time ago and it had said that Chuck Negron was dead. I read his bio recently and am so glad he lived through it ALL. I thought he was lost to this world a long time gone. So happy to see he is alive and well.
When I was 17, I went to a Three Dog Night concert in Eugene Oregon . Chuck Negron asked me to go back to his motel room . It was innocence and ignorance on my part. Chuck told me I was beautiful and I melted of course as a young teen would. Everybody started to smoke pot and stuff.I had never smoked pot. I became so high all I wanted to do is go home. Anyway chuck was kind and sweet and that's my story. I now live in Washington and just heard they will be playing some where in Seattle . It would be fun to see them, but ....I doubt I will make it. Like chuck I unfortunately became an addict but today I have 33 yrs clean!!!!. I'm now 64 yrs. old close to his age. I Hope he continues stay clean too!!!
Easy to kick someone when there down . God Bless u Chuck. God forgives all. Keep in singing w yur god givin voice. truly blessing to see that yur back.
Yeah & they were compeating w/ Grand Funk , Led Zep, The Stones, Alice Cooper, Steppenwolf....now I check out the "bands" on Sat. Night Live and become sick of what passes as music...let alone ROCK N ROLL
I had no idea he had experienced so much in his life .. the last few moments when he spoke directly to the camera, I heard his words as I have been very depressed and totally alone. I feel his words are sincere .. thank you Chuck Negron
I hope a year later, you are doing and feeling so much better. Loneliness is a Mother F***er and will pull you down quicker then shit! I lost my mom in early 2015 after 6 yrs of being sick and I took care of her the whole time right up til her passing, and for the past 3 yrs fell deeper into my own drug addiction trying to hide from the pain! Just got clean from a 10 yr drug habit but it's not easy facing loneliness sober that's for damn sure! Anyway hope you are doing better!! You are not alone!!
But not the ONLY voice: The group had three lead singers: Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron, and Cory Wells. They each sang lead on songs, with each having a #1 hit: Black and White (Danny), Joy to the World (Chuck), and Mama Told Me (Not to Come) (Cory). On some songs (e.g., Celebrate and Family of Man), they each sang a verse.
Danny Hutton tried to be a showman, but he worked to sing, where Cory and Chuck do/dd it naturally, let it flow.. my sister in law has been a singer professsionally fpr 50 plus yr.
Its really good to see Chuck Negron, looking so good and doing so well again. We saw him at a small country fair in Connecticut USA back in the mid 00s and he was on the comeback trail then and still sounding like the old Chuck Negron!
can't take anything away from Chuck, i love his singing, but Cory was also my favorite. he had a powerful and beautiful voice, and soulful, as you said. i loved Danny too. Three Dog Night was simply outstanding.
You got it right, love Chuck and his monumental drug addiction turn around, but for me Cory Wells had the coolest early '70's rock voice out there. His voice inflection and nuance comes way through in 'Mama told me not to come', 'Sure as I'm sittin here', 'Shambala', 'Eli's commin', the 3rd. verse in 'Family of man', it doesn't get any cooler sounding than Cory, and he was abstinent from substances at the time, an oddity during that era,...Bob at 64.
So happy to see this. I loved 3DN, so popular while in high school. I knew about him no longer with them due to drugs, but never knew this clarity self. .way to go Chuck ❤️ people who were around back then, sure can appreciate your story, love and strength to you
Awesome story. Yes you look awesome . ❤️ Being a fan all these years I never heard your story thanks for sharing . Haven’t stopped enjoying the music your voice . Easy to be hard seems to fit today as much or more than the year it came out . ❤️
Cory and chuck was the voice of three dog night I saw them 3 times once when I was 12 and twice in the 80s I have pictures from the 80s when they got back together
Ran Into Chuck Yrs Back. My Birthday My Girlfriend Took Me to See Him Perform At The Palms In Newport Beach. I Was GoinTo bathroom,And Chuck Literally Ran Into Me. He Said "Excuse Me" Going To The Head. " Then In Bathroom, I was Talking to Him, And Told Him My Girl-friend Brought Me To See You For Birthday. He Said,"Great,You Enjoying The Show? ' Said Yes . He Said "Happy Birthday,It's My Birthday Too!" So We Both Had A Happy Birthday .So Chucks Birthday Is June 8th! We Are both Gemini's.Nice Man .Later I Ran into Him Again, At The Lobster Festival In Redondop Beach Yrs later. He Remember Me. .
Chuck has become an inspiration to so many.here where i live in West Virginia everyone love's Chuck he's done some shows here and it's always full house.god bless you Chuck Negron and Rock on.😊🖒✌🙏
My best friend was a herion addict I lost her in 2001 the week of Mothers Day, she was struck and killed crossing 4 lanes of highway coming down off the junk that day, before this all happened I brought her over homemade chicken noodle soup and when I saw her arms I should have had an intervention with her- dragged her to a rehab... to this day I blame myself knowing this and the fact she left behind 4 kid's.It's been 11 years now and I miss her and the goodtimes we had when she was not using..
Honey, as a ecovering addict, I know you can talk your head nd ass off, but if they dont want to stop, they wont. All you would have done is piss her off, sad to say. Bless you for wanting to, please dont blamre yourself. I lost a friend to heroin, she didnt die for years after, but our friendship did. Still not jappy with her. Remember the good, love your friend, and know I walk with you in love..
A few thoughts. First, everyone should read the autobiography of Chuck Negron entitled 'Three Dog Nightmare". I guarantee your mouth will drop open with some of his low point stories, it's like nothing I've ever read! Things like sharing the "community" needle left in a crack in the sidewalk in front of the dealers house. Selling all his gold records for heroin, etc. I am so happy this man saw the light and made it through! He is a truly great musician and an excellent example of the human spirit. Now, for people hooked on Heroin, Norco's, Oxycontin, Percossettes, etc. (These are all synthetic Heroin) There is hope!!!!!! See a Psychiatrist (NOT A PSYCHOLOGIST) These DR.s can prescribe a very highly controlled substance drug called SUBOXONE. It is the same as Norco, Heroin, etc. except, they remove the molecule of the drug that gives you the feeling of well being, or, high. This is a sublingual tablet, in other words, you put it under your tongue and let it dissolve. Within 15 minutes, your withdrawals are completely gone and you have no urge to get high, I promise!!! I was addicted to pain killers for over 15 years and thought I would never be able to get off of the pills. My friend who hooked me up with this bad DR. in the first place had a sister who was a nurse and told him about this drug. He helped me, so now I'm trying to help others. If you have a loved one who is hooked and there seems to be no hope, here it is. Please feel empathy for the addict, not sympathy!!!! Withdrawals from these medications and Heroin is like the flu times 10, and it doesn't go away in a week. So, when they say they are sick, they mean it!! So, with Suboxone, you will most likely start off with an 8 mg. tablet that tastes like a very bitter orange flavor, although now, they come in strips like the breath mints that dissolve almost immediately. If you have insurance or Medicaid, you may need to get an authorization, check the back of your insurance card for mental care or substance abuse and call them! Suboxone's 7 year patent is now over, but the generic called Buprenorphine/Naloxin is almost just as expensive at about 10 dollars a pill. But even if you pay out of pocket, what were you spending on drugs daily? More than ten bucks I'll bet. Suboxone is also addictive, but no where near as bad as the other stuff. You can slowly ween yourself off. But, I promise you will get your life back, no more weird mood swings, stealing from family and friends, telling lies, etc. I say, there is no high that feels as good as being sober! Good luck my friends, if anyone has ANY questions, please feel free to write me at RU-vid- Dave the guitar guy (I also teach guitar on this site) Thanks for listening, Dave
+David Hoffman Well David. As a longtime RN there are plenty of people with horrible chronic pain I have seen in the hospital for which there is no surgical fix and actually need their Norco, Oxy and Percocet to function and are not misusing them but jump though endless hoops to find a doctor now that the DEA no longer has to do any of the 'scary' work and can sit in front of a computer deciding they know whats 'best' for the countries chronic pain sufferers.
cory died just right after i seen them for the first time in my life he and 3 dog night were awsome i had 2nd row seats me and my son and his friend they were awsome!!
ALL of us make...miscues! May God be with Chuck; He obviously HAS been for quite some time. Chuck was ,is and always will be a super talented vocalist! It would be so cool to see Chuck & Danny and the band...reunite...if only for one gig!
Thank you Greg, I believe she is in a better place now because when I dream of her once in awhile, she has a smile on her face- she does not speak to me by voice but speaks to me through my mind.
Well, apparently the hang up there is that 3DN did not compose any of their own tunes (at least the charters) .. Some time back I think the "powers that be" @ the RRHOF gave that as their reason for not inducting them. Now that Cory is gone, you'd think they'd reconsider, and hopefully so. I also wish that Chuck and Danny would now make peace and perform together again - would think that's what Cory would have wanted.
the hall of fame is nonsense and bullshit, just like the academy awards.its all politics and not based on integrity.let me put it to ya like this, if mike jackson is in the rock+roll hall of fame, michael "fucking" jackson! then what the hell good is it? what does it represent? I'd throw in cheapest trick too but at least they were in the rock category (somewhat) I'm sure there's more but i don't wanna go down the list that might as well be written on toilet paper! i liked the dog, but lets face it,they didn't write the songs and they didn't play the instruments! very Monkees like.i liked/still like them too so that's that from the hat.
I was married to a drug addict for eight years. I hope that he finally got help or he did not make it. Listening to this was heart wrenching for me but also made me know that you can overcome anything if you really truly want to. Thank you for this post.
I know Chuck went through a bad time in his life, but i so wish that he and his co horts in Three Dog Night would have made amends, to maybe appear together once more.
Don't forget that Spooner (keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon) also wrote a book about the band many years later. Unfortunately, it too portrays many of the band members having also abused drugs, even just before a concert performance.
'3 Dog Nightmare' is one of the best & really maybe humbling to sum .its as real as it gets books ever .& its an important book .becuz people r suffering everyday & its got alot good info & its a book of hope also becuz it shows hes living proof that there is ...🌞
i'm very sorry for your loss. :( i know i don't know who you are, but i was reading this and thinking 'what an awful thing to have happen to your best friend'. i know it must still be hard for you even after so many years. i hope somehow you are able to cope with it. my heart and prayers go out to you. please try not to feel guilty or blame yourself for what happened. i'm sure she is in a better place now and God is taking care of her.
Who would have thought that the lead singer for Three Dog Night was so close to death from drug addiction. He sold a ton of records and lost it to a monkey on his back. He worked with MAP (Musicians Assistance Program and tried to help Kurt Kolbain 4 days before he dies of a shotgun blast self inflicted. Drugs are killing this country and prescription drug abuse is our biggest problem. If you know someone is abusing get them to a Psychiatrist not an MD or Psychologist they are not qualified Big Pharmaceutical Companies have found a way around thid by aledgedly paying off politicians . .
Thanks Phillip! Great advice!! If you are hopelessly hooked on Heroin, Norco, Vicodin ,Oxycontin, Percosettes (which are all synthetic Heroin) see a Psychiatrist, they are the only DR.s basically that can prescribe a drug called Suboxone. It immitates the heroin, but, the molecule of "well being" is removed leaving you feeling human again without being high. And let me tell you, after 15 years of constant Norco abuse 20-30 pills a day, I thought there was no hope. You spend all day trying to do the math on how long it will be before you are out of meds and get horribly sick, imagine the flu times 10!!! Anyway, you will beg, borrow and steal, that's not just a saying, you will do these things. But, Suboxone is a sublingual pill, in other words, you let the tablet melt under your tongue, within 15 minutes you are no longer sick, it is amazing! But, like anything else, you will need to ween yourself off of these too, because they do have withdrawal effects, nothing like the other stuff, but sick all the same. I started at a 8 mg. dose, now, I cut the pill into 1/4's, and am going lower than that some days. The sooner I'm off the better! It is a cliche, but being sober for the first time in years is a high all in it's own! One last thing, read the autobiography, "Three Dog Nightmare", Chuck is extremely candid about his heroin addiction and I guarantee you that your mouth will drop open with some of his stories. I've never met a man that has gone from riches to rags like he did and came out the other side. Peace to you all, and I hope those who need help find it. I have had 3 friends die in as many years from withdrawing from Vicodin, so, they went out and bought Heroin to replace the drug just so they wouldn't get sick. Forget the bad neighborhoods, getting robbed or worse, you don't know what's in that Heroin and it could easily kill you the very first time. I dedicate this article to my dear old friends who never saw the light. Thanks for listening, Dave the guitar guy. P.S I teach guitar on RU-vid under that name.
Myself, l like Cory Well's vocals and voice better, but Chuck Negron was equally important in the music contributions of TDN. Whats the center point here is Chucks personal addiction struggles within the band and his eventual success, and this is the main core of this interview. Negron says a lot in a short period of time in a semi casual interview style with just minimal comedy thrown in. All though this was 12 years ago, lets gleen from this. All in all, it is well done.
Anyone who has an Addiction Problem ; then you can read Chuck book, & follow the path of one that No Human being wants to go down. Bless his heart oh, he is sharing a private part of his life to save lives and that's one of the most unselfish things a person can do in this world. Who better to learn from than a man that has hit rock bottom? Does anyone know what happened to Chuck's son? I heard he was having addiction problems as well. Hopefully Church Son, was able to walk away from it.
I have seen many Chuck Negron interviews, and read his book. I just reordered it for a loved one struggling with addiction. He's an inspiration to many. Btw, he was my favorite singer in Three Dog Night. He killed it in Easy To Be Hard.
To empiremack, he's a musician who tours and was also promoting his book at that time, so it's much more likely that he was jetlagged and exhausted from being on the road. Speaking from my own experience, when someone's in that state it really can look and sound like they're impaired. You lose your train of thought and you fidget to keep yourself awake.
