@@FactsVerseI do love the updates you provide, it's nice to see how the groups are doing in these modern times. I enjoy a good story, thank you so much.
Seen Chuck recently @ a casino. He still has it. Hit all the notes. Sang All the 3 Dog Nights songs himself. Took pictures with myself and my girlfriend. He was a real nice guy, and great show 😊🎉
Undoubtedly, "The Show Must Go On", is my all time favorite, even when I was listening to it as a kid in Brooklyn.....and most of all because, "I wasted time, wasted, wasted time...." That one line still resonates in my mind several decades later. WOW! I can definitely relate to that! Not to mention Chuck Negron's powerful sounding voice! Thank you Chuck for putting out that song during one of my toughest moments as a lost kid in Brooklyn! I'm praying for you, & may you now use your gifted talents to glorify The Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!
Negron's honesty about his own struggles and the band's dissolution offers a valuable lesson about the importance of balance, self-care, and seeking support in times of adversity.
I loved ThreeDog Night. I was a little kid when they became famous. Just like the Beatles. I love Classic rock. From the 60s to the 80s. You know your getting old when the music you grew up with is now Classic! 😆
My favorite songs by 3 dog night are sung by Cory Wells, A change is gonna come and Let me seranade you. shows Corey's vocal range. My vision of 3 dog night would be Cory Wells, Steve Perry of Journey, Lou Gramm of Foreigner. IMAGINE THAT??? WOW!!!!
One of the greatest bands to ever exist. I spent my youth listening to Three Dog Night and every now and then even today at age seventy I flash back and listen to their great music. Sad that they ended this way.
Three Dog Night was the first album I ever owned. I loved them-I still love them. ‘Play Something Sweet’ and ‘Sure as I’m Sittin Here’ are two great, not-so-well-known but awesome songs by them. I was actually able to see them in concert in a canyon outdoors. Magical!
I had the good fortune to see them live back in 1974 in West Palm Beach, Florida. All I know is that they put on a great performance. They were my first concert and will always be my favorite concert. From what I’ve read, Cory Wells never got into the drug thing and stayed with his wife till he died. RIP Cory Wells. I can still see him smiling and singing 50 years later.
Floyd Sneed was a funky and solid timekeeper. Drummers should take note. He always played for the song, never got in the way of those fabulous vocals, and played some of the tastiest fills when appropriate.
What I remember most about TDN was the magnitude of the hit Joy to the World. I was living in Milwaukee back then, 1971, and the Milwaukee Bucks won the NBA championship. It was a week long party in all the downtown bars. The song that resonated the backgroud to this festive time was Joy to the World. A special time, a timeless song.
Three Dog Night has been a favorite group of mine for a long time and I still remember hearing them for the first time when my oldest brother bought their album, "It Ain't Easy" in 1970. My favorite song by them is "Out In The Country."
All be 60 in oct that song was a favorite when i was a like 9 years old i just heard it a couple weeks ago in a store i was like wow it only gets better
I witnessed Three Dog Night's performance in Burlington,Vermont . Without exaggeration , it was the greatest I'd ever seen . After the first half of the show came to an end , I remember thinking , "That was phenomenal , they wont' be able to top THAT in the second half of the show , not possible , no way ". THEY DID !!! I WAS FLABBERGHASTED !!! STUNNED ! Mesmerized in shock knowing full well I had seen the greatest show in Rock History . TRUE .....
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing your life story. We're very happy to know that you had a chance to see Three Dog Night in person! Which of their songs appealed to you the most?
Jimmy Greenspoon & Cory Wells passed away in 2015. I recall them releasing "Liar" in August 1971, just when I got deployed to wonderful Vietnam. I always enjoyed their cover of 'Try A Little Tenderness" which they used Otis Redding's cover as a model to arrange it by. I was surprised when my dad told it was old Frank Sinatra song. It was & it was forgettable.
Three Dog Night was the first album I ever bought. I became a huge fan. My favourite songs are Easy To Be Hard, Pieces of April and Out In The Country,
Three Dog Night are a spectacular trio. Their harmony performances and brotherhood were all for the love of music. It put them at the top of the charts. It's a shame that drugs interfered within their profession. Their music still today is timeless. "Long Live Three Dog Night"
Been a lifelong fan of 3 Dog Night. Saw Chuck Negron when he was playing with The Grass Roots. At the same time 2 Dog Night was playing at the State Fair...lol. I went to this concert mainly to see the Grass Roots but Chuck just blew them away with his band. I couldn't believe how great he sounded and what a showman he was. Out In The Country is still one of my fav songs of all-time.
Liked the drugs and alcohol too much, they gave him a chance to get clean and come back. Unfortunately Negron couldn't break the addiction. First time I heard about Danny's addiction though.
I'm now in my 70's, but at the time was a huge fan of "Three Dog Night," and was devastated when they broke up! In a much later Inter view, Chuck stated that he was so addicted to heroin that, in order for him to perform, the crew would prop him up, and strap him to, a dolly! At show time, they'd wheel him out to sing! He said he didn't really remember performing at all!
My favourite song by Three Dog Night was 'Mama Told Me Not to Come', followed by 'Good Feeling', Easy To Be Hard' and Shambala'. Truly one of my favourite musical groups.
You neglected to mention their attempt at a comeback in the early 80s with the three singers, reunited and healthy, doing their album for passport records, called It’s A Jungle Out There
Joy to the world was the song that made me a music fan. I was in the 5th or 6th grade at the time. As soon as I heard the opening line, Jeremiah was a Bullfrog I was hooked!
My, my, my. Man I really loved their singing and the energy they had in their live performances. When they were actually together as a band I was a small kid, so I didn't check them out until I was about 20 yrs. old back in '81, and they had long since disbanded. But great music of course is timeless. Watching some of their performances on YT was a joy for me since I had only heard their music on radio. 4 of my all time favorites by them are, "ONE", OLD FASHION LOVE SONG, BLACK/WHITE, and ELI's COMING." Classic stuff right there. 4-Sure.
There's only 3 original members alive. Mike Allsup, Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron. Joe Shermie (bass) died in 2002. Floyd died last year. Cory Wells died around 2014, and Jimmy Greenspoon passed in 2015.
Had to dig deep for this one. All the hits of course, but there are songs that got no airtime but still shined on their records. “Chest Fever” and “Murder In My Heart For The Judge” come to mind. My favorite hit of theirs is “Family Of Man.”
Chest Fever was a great concert song. Jimmy Greenspoon really made that Hammond B3 rumble! Three Dog Night stayed near Kissimmee, FL for a few days in the late OO's during a tour and Greenspoon came to the local public arts school and talked about music with the students. I couldn't bring myself to go to the concert they played in town, though. By that time, there were too many missing band members and I wanted to remember them the way I saw them in the '70s.
@@TheSkinking Which is ridiculous. They were the top grossing band in the world for four years. It is supposed to be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not the songwriting hall of game. Half the acts being inducted these days have nothing to due with rock and roll. It's a joke.
My favorite songs of TDN were “Eli’s Coming” and “Pieces of April”. They will always be my favorite band! I never knew Danny Hutton had a drug problem. It always seems that the breakup was blamed on Chuck. So why is Hutton so emphatic about Negron not coming back to the group?
Out In the Country is my favorite. I first saw them in concert in '74 (I think). I saw Corey & Danny's Three Dog night in the mid to late 90s. I last saw Chuck when he was touring with Blood, Sweat, and Tears and I've seen Danny's Three Dog Night a couple of times lately. Each time they sounded great. I wish Danny and Chuck could join back up again.
TDN was my favorite band in the 70's. I seen them in concert several times and they put on great concerts. Great harmonies by Chuck, Danny and Cory. Probably the great pressure of performing was too much for the band. My best song was Easy to be hard. RIP Cory.
I stumbled on the band on a night of bar hopping in New Jersey. It was right at the beginning of "Never been to Spain" and I was transfixed at what they could do to somebody else's song ! The harmonies and the great vocals backed by a very tight band was awesome and I've been a fan ever since. As with many groups, they were so hot, the flame had to burn out, and sadly it did. They were unique
I grew up with Three Dog Night. I love ALL of their music since I was 4, in 1968! I still listen to their music daily!! Long live their legacy of amazing tunes!!
Favorties: "Shambala", "Out in the Country", "Just an Old Fashioned Love Song".......I have never seen a group that was so dominant for such a long time...
I'd imagine the fact that they didn't write their own music also hurt them because they didn't have publising money coming in so they had to tour constantly.
Love them singing Out in the Country, so mellow and meaningful. For song Show Must Go On, Chuck's singing and expression is perfect, his voice is amazing. And video for Old Fashioned Love Song is special - excellent singing by them and humour too in the video.😊
Old Fashioned Love song--quintessential TDN! Lots of musical magic with that band--and backed up by first-rate musicians. They outperformed the Beatles--their music reminds me of my earlier years! I met Chuck back in '97 at Sea World in Orlando, spoke with him and photographed with him and my son. Saw TDN for the first time in '86; but with Cory and Danny. No more bands like this one!
My first LP was Suitable for Framing…older brother bought it for me for Christmas….followed these guys from there on out …despite the drug and greed culture that ended the ban they really gave the world the gift of great sound and tunes
I was a freshman or sophomore in High School when "Joy To The World" came out! Most, if not All of the School (including myself 😀) was Raving about it! I remember having conversations about how long we thought it would stay No.1 Still to this day My Favorite. And Chuck was always my fave singer!!
Many artists & songwriters at the time wrote songs for them(Harry Nilson, Paul Williams, Randy Newman, Hoyt Axton). They actually had MANY Top 20 hits! My favorites are probably Joy to The World, Shamabala, & the often forgotten Family of Man! Seeing these songs done live today by what remains of Three Dog Night is like a spiritual experience! Its like going to a religious revivalist event, very moving & powerful!
I find it utterly incredible that all 70-80 year old musical performers today have such great genes that they have no gray hair on their head anywhere. Amazing!
