as a kid, I knew of rumors that Bruce Lee would return 10 years after his "death", and that he had faked his death to go live in the jungle for 10 years. I was so anxious when 1983 came along. I thought I'd see his return. It always amazes me how someone so great can die of such a "routine" death that any of us could die from. Just shows that even though some are great at what they do, far more than 90% of the people out there, they're still human. There will never be another Bruce Lee.

Man, I'm astounded there are people in the comments section saying "Bruce Lee may not have been a fighter." or "he wasn't that great.". People saying this nonsense are full of it. Someone doesn't train to the level he did, do demonstrations and write books just to PRETEND to know how to fight. You see this man in video footage with ridiculous speed against other trained fighters who compete and he's faster than all of them, but he "wasn't that great"? Every time he got challenged on the street or on movie sets he won pretty handily according to witness accounts. The one fight he had that is in constant dispute is the one vs. Wong Jack Man. He himself said in a phone conversation that he beat him and he was a "bullshit artist"(the conversation is here on RU-vid in two parts, just search for Bruce Lee phone conversation. Exact quote in the call is "Wong Jack Man and all these bullshit artists."), but eyewitness accounts vary and all come from biased sources. In addition to that, the one book written on the subject was by a former student of Wong Jack Man's, so we never really know what happened. Another thing is that after this fight he started developing Jeet Kune Do and rose to even greater heights, became the legend we all know him as. Was it because he didn't win handily enough, or because he lost? Again, we may never really know. But yeah, not a fighter? Not that good? lol, that's bullshit. He was a fighter before everything else, he just didn't compete. Black belts he worked with said he would have whooped so and so's ass, that they would never get in the ring with him for serious fights, etc. We'll never know for 100% certain how he'd do in fights against whoever, we can only speculate, but there's no doubt he was for real.

Mister Guy Thanks for this, you made me laugh and I needed to after a long day. Before Bruce Lee was "Bruce Lee", he got into fights almost daily in his teens, and he got his ass kicked. This lead him to Yip Man, a highly acclaimed instructor of Wing Chun. Bruce was a hothead who continued to get in trouble and eventually had to leave the country. His father sent him to San Francisco with $100 in his pocket. We'll skip ahead from there. Bruce Lee did not enter tournaments because he was against point competitions. Aside from Wong Jack Man, he fought people who challenged him on the street when it was unavoidable, and that is because he always won and people were seriously hurt according to Paul Wall, former martial arts champion and friend of Bruce Lee. The last person he fought was someone who challenged him on the set of Enter the Dragon. Paul Wall also recounted that story, and said the guy was skilled and clearly out to hurt Bruce. Bruce got him against a wall, knee trapped him and pummeled him. Didn't have him fired or removed from the set. There were also several high ranking martial artists who met and trained with him over the years, and they all vouch for his skills as well, some of them saying they wouldn't even get in the ring with him on a serious level. Aside from that you simply go by what you see. Demonstration footage, training footage, books he wrote. He was not someone "acting" as though he could fight, he was someone very much ahead of his time. So to answer your question succinctly, Bruce didn't fight any "named" martial artists, but was highly skilled and more than capable of holding his own. You saying he wasn't a fighter is you playing with words. You mean to imply that he wasn't good, and that is absolutely laughable. Literally everyone who knew him vouches for his skill, and the people who were with him when he accepted challenges state that he won them handily.

Bruce Lee had a predisposition to side effects of muscle relaxants, as Chuck Norris said, he was already on muscle relaxants, and anti-inflamitory medication for his back injury, he'd taken the pain medication he took for migraine the night he died, once previously, and got what initially was deemed an edema (why the Drs misdiagnosed it initially the second time around at autopsy as well.. later rectified, his death certificate read 'Misadventure' and notes cerebral swelling, his brain had a histaminic reaction and swelled by 13%) was rushed to hospital and almost died. The Drs reduced the swelling, and saved his life, but the correlation between the event and combination medication side effects wasn't made, he never informed them he'd taken a pain killer, and such a thing often seems inconsequential, even today, so not unusual. The second time around, he again took another medication for pain with both Asprin, which has an anticoagulant effect, and muscle relaxant, which he was unknowingly allergic to, this time the reaction happened when he was ASLEEP.. so he had no warning, didn't collapse disorientated and in pain like the first time, and simply died in his sleep from acute cerebral swelling and then bleeding. No one killed him. No one mistreated him. No Negligence. No Conspiracy. Just a tragic lack of understanding. Had the Bruce Lee provided all the facts of his actions up until the first time it happened, he might have lived. Had he done so, they most likely would have tested the medication's effects on him, and he would have lived. Had it even been that he'd be fully awake taken the medication and felt the symptoms of his allergic reaction then collapsed soon after like the first time he might have lived. He died. Just a sad tragedy.

An antibiotic is the last "medication" Bruce Lee would take, yet alone for a headache as he was a strong individual who would deal with a headache naturally. Bruce Lee's powerful following like that of Michael Jackson's powerful following, challenged the egos of the cabal who had them both killed.
An aneurysm is a malformation of an artery. Once it starts to bulge, its walls become thinner and thinner until it ruptures and bleeds. Blood in brain gives an infernal headache. It also causes the brain to swell. Inside of the skull there is nowere for the swelling to go so the pressure rises. Once the pressure gets high enough, there is no more blood entering the brain. Brain does not survive a circulatory arrest more than a few minutes. This is what kills the person with a brain aneurysm unless he/she gets operated in time. Pain killers, muscle relaxants or antibiotics do not make aneurysms nor do they make existing aneurysms rupture. People confuse things and make things up because they do not know.

its quite intresting what chuck norris says here..bcoz there r talks that bruce lee died in his sleep as he dreamt abt being killed by a demon. also what i heard is that bruce's family was cursed. his son brandon lee died at the age of 28. bruce died at age 32. brandon always sd one statement."i would never live to see 30". there you hv it..he died at 28. its very sad to see brandon go as well. he was following his fathers footsteps. if he was alive till today..he wud hv been a great martial artist and a great actor on screen. i miss bruce and brandon dearly.

I've never heard of anyone taking antibiotics for a headache unless it was for a sinus infection. Antibiotics are used to kill bacteria not to treat pain.
Bruce and Chuck must have had very similar or challenging philosophies, to have bonded so quickly and trained all night at random in a hotel hallway! The curse of the Lee family that killed both Bruce and Brandon is actually all platform use. Completely reasonable to apprehend Norris and Abdul-Jabber for questioning on their part of the orchestration of Bruce's murder. I remember an Interview with Norris about who would win in an all-out fight between he and bruce lee, and his answer was: Bruce was a very good fighter. BUT- he was not a World Champion Karate Fighter like himself. You do the math...
Chuck Norris was in a movie that perfectly described his point on this. He was sparring with a young black guy who had a black belt and wanted to compete like Norris had. Chuck said he was good but not ready. The black guy disagreed and Chuck said Okay- I will spar with you at tournament speed and hitting strength and we shall see. Chuck hit the guy with about 10 blows and the young guy doubled over and dropped to the mat. That is what he meant when he said he was a tournament fighter and not a great street fighter like Bruce. For all of you out there, Tornado1994 has a VERY INTERESTING theory on Bruce's death. He said that Bruce had EPILEPSY as a child and an unattended head injury that cause hydrocephalus, which is a fluid build up in the brain that causes pressure. This, along with the medicine he took, might have increased the pressure in his brain enough to kill him. I want you guys to weigh in on this. This is VERY INTERESTING indeed! It certainly does make some sense.
Research DOES bear out what you say. He did have epilepsy. I dated a girl with epilepsy a long time ago and she was totally normal until she had an attack. You wouldn't even know it. I'm sure that Bruce was the same way. But the epilepsy itself probably weakened his blood vessels in the brain from the strain. No one knows how many seizures he had in his life or how it effected him. Everyone is different and it has a different effect on them.

Bruce had overcome most of it during his young adulthood and was somewhat of someone who strongly believed in Excellence. The problem being is that by the early 70s, Bruce decided to toughen his diet even further in an attempt to both stay fit and in superhuman shape. He begin a draconian low sodium diet in 1972, and started training and working out even more rigorously than before, all of that took a heavy toll on his body. Relapsing the Epilepsy instead of curing it. You are correct, it took strain on his body and weakened his blood vessels. The Hydrocephalus mostly likely came from a head injury that he received on the set of Game of Death. Dan Inosato did mention that Bruce once accidently hit his head, and suggested he consult a doctor, Bruce decided to start Chewing Cannabis as an old remedy for head injuries and didn't consult a doctor. I believe all that working out, low sodium, lack of proper electrolytes and overload weakened the cranial tissue of his brain and started causing water to flow to abnormal areas of his Brian. The injury certainly looks to have been his Brain stem. And by the time he started shooting Enter The Dragon in November 1972, the disease had begin to take shape. Its why on Thursday May 10,1973 he collapsed from an Epileptic seizure and had to be rushed to the hospital. His close friends including alleged lover Betty Ting Pei says that Bruce refused to tell her about what happened that day, and want nobody but Linda and Crew members to know that he was being treated. The fans and HK press never got this info. Chow later told her after Bruce died what had happened and that Linda took Bruce to a L.A. Neurologist that was preparing to run some tests on his Brain and body(the day he died on Friday July 20th, Bruce had typed a letter to his Family Attorney Adrian Marshall and was going to fly out to Los Angeles the following weekend, during ETD's HK opening back to the Dr. and then planned on taking a break from film, to talk prospects for 1974). Despite allegations from Linda's 2nd husband, Betty,Chow and those around say Bruce and her weren't sexually involved that day. It was strictly business alone. And that Chow had driven him to her apartment. She says he worked the phones,typewriters and drank tea that whole afternoon while Linda was out having lunch. That he complained of a "bad headache" around 5:30 PM and asked for a pain reliever. She suggested Euagesic because he Dr had prescribed it for her Tai Chi because it made a good muscle relaxant. Muscle Relaxants should NOT be given to anyone with a history of Epilepsy. Betty of course was oblivious to his medical history because he never told her.
That is very possible since Bruce was a very proud man and thought that having epilepsy weakened him in the eyes of his family and especially his friends. Again, that seems very logical what you said about his diet, and him working out without proper rest. It all goes back to his fight with Wong Jack Man. He didn't like losing or even tying, which to him, was the same as a loss. He was a very proud man, after all, which has a lot to do with tradition and getting respect, much like the Japanese. Oh my gosh! That's a trip. As a kid my friends and I would go to the local walk in theater. We called them walk in theaters because at the time drive in theaters were still real popular. So we would go to the theater. Fifty cents admission, and there would be one theater in the building showing two movies. We loved Bruce Lee movies. We would come out of the theater and try to imitate some Bruce Lee moves on each other. We made nun chucks, pardon the spelling, out of broom sticks, shovel handles, etc, two eye screws and piece of chain. We made throwing spurs. I mean like after watching a Bruce Lee flick, you wanted to be like Bruce Lee. He was the man. This the first time I heard exactly how he passed away. Bruce Lee's passing was a great loss to mankind. LOL. Bruce Lee was about 5'7" and 135lbs. He looked great in the movies, but was a TINY little man. One good mauling, and he'd be toast, against almost ANYONE of "normal" size & ability. Norris was 5'10" and 170lbs. Not huge, but having 35lbs on a guy is a BIG advantage. A REAL man, of about 6'2" and 210lbs would destroy both of them.

Its a prescription only medicine. How was she able to give such a drug to him? What person would give out a prescription only drug, a serious drug such as this, for a headache? it doesn't make sense. His death has the signs of a steroid death. it explains why his wife refused his body to be tested for drugs before cremating it. It would have ruined his career.

I had such a bad back that 2 discs were removed. I've taken all kinds of pain medication and muscle relaxers such as soma and flexeril. This is something I've had to live with. During all this time ( since 1988) I've required antibiotics on occasion. Nothing like this happened to me. Just seems a little fishy to me.
Immaterial. The fact is I took muscle relaxers and antibiotics at the same time, like Bruce did. I even trump Bruce because I was also taking oxycodone and oxycontin as well.
It's almost like every person's body reacts differently to different drugs... weird. not to mention it was likely aspirin, not an anti-biotic, and ole chuck here is remembering wrong.
Immaterial indeed. Your biochemistry and someone elses will be similar but different. We have all known people who have imbibed extreme quantities and combinations of drugs and survived it. Sometimes frequently. I knew someone who died from a aspirin overdose. I had a real problem with that story; but it was just the simple truth. Mr. Lee was well known to be one of the most extreme physical fitness practitioners on the planet. It is not at all difficult to believe that his body would be more sensitive to drugs than most people. Mr. Norris knew Mr. Lee well as well as knowing many of Mr. Lee's friends and associates. Mr Norris is in excellent position to have the inside story of what really happened, and that is what he shared with us in this recording. I have NEVER heard of Mr. Norris being at all dishonest or deceptive about anything. If Norris said it-I believe it, period. Sometimes a thing is only what it is; Nothing more.

Anderw Wheeler - If you see the original reports and hear the original discussion of Hong Kong police, it does reveal that Equagesic and cannabis together created an edema in his brain, which means that his brain swelled up - that was his cause of death. Not bullets, nor anything else. Chuck is possibly trying to dodge the truth about Lee using cannabis because Asian society is very conservative and people would not have appreciated hearing that about a popular folk hero such as B.L. He still has a daughter and a widow in this world. If there was any conspiracy, it was a conspiracy not to mention drugs and to downplay that aspect which contributed to the cerebral edema condition.
this makes a LOT more sense than the other rumors i have heard over the years. everything from it was a on set accident like brandon lee. to the ridiculous he was killed by a rival.

Thank you Mr. Norris for clearing that up. Bruce Lee was, by all accounts, a man of amazing mental determination. That such a exceptional man would be brought low by such a ordinary series of events is a tragedy. It seems that no matter how far any man might reach; in the end he is still but a man. And we all make mistakes.....
Here's an other version of rumor, I heard it when I was in Beijin with my martial art master, who is a very traditional old man who picked up the story from some practitioners who came back from the states. Bruce lee was in a private martial art contest with someone and won. As a sign of respect,he walked over and leaned to help the other person up from the ground, but the bastard who lost the fight took advantage and flipped his leg to hit Bruce's spine. That became the back injury that latter contributed to Bruce's death. As the rumor goes, that incident actually led to the addition of contest rule that disallow helping your opponent up after the fight concludes.

Chuck's got part of the story right. Bruce did die of cerebral edema or brain swelling. However, one important fact that MANY have overlooked. Is that Bruce years prior to his death had his sweat glands removed under his arm pits. He did this for esthetic reasons while filming on set. After he did that his body couldn't effectively cool itself down anymore. When he was filming Enter the Dragon it happen to be the hottest day on record in Hong Kong. He wasn't feeling well from the moment he woke up on the day of his death. He skipped an important dinner engagement complaining of a headache. And asked for an aspirin from i believe Betty who he subsequently was having an affair with. She gave it to him and he went to lie down. When she went to wake him after they were late to the dinner engagement she couldn't. What i believe happened was he suffered from some sort of heat stroke or exhaustion and the aspirin only made things worse. Cerebral edema often happens in athletes who are die of heat exhaustion. Not to mention Bruce had already suffered a bout of this before where he was rushed to the hospital. And thankfully treated that first time. So he had a "medical history" of this happening already. I think if he were attended to sooner he may have survived. But his organs must have just shut down on him. One thing is for sure it wasn't the Chinese mafia, his lover poisoning him, or any other "rumor" story making the rounds. It was a medical emergency and one that his body couldn't come back from.
I trained with the martial arts instructor for the Hong Kong police for 4 years. When Bruce Lee died it was rumoured he had been killed by a master of the internal martial arts using a dian mo (dim mak) technique. My teacher was known as a master of these techniques & was speaking with Bruce outside his home the week before his death. So he thought people might start to think he was responsible so he went to the police doctor, a friend, who was doing the autopsy & asked him personally what had caused the death. The police doctor said it was a combination of an internal injury caused through wrong training techniques & drugs specifically aphrodisiacs.
