Chuck is exactly correct. People have this concept that there is a magic switch. There’s no magic switch if you practice something or play incorrectly over and over again you’re not going to all the sudden get better.
Exactly. Shaq is leaving it up to chance that they'll figure it out late in the season. Chuck is saying they need to figure it out now. I'm a numebrs guy. I'll make my assumptions based on numbers and not about hypotheticals.
Bruh I love how Shaq and Chuck both be wrong and right at the same time. Chuck about bad habits, Shaq about making timely stops, Shaq about Chuck hogging airtime, Chuck taking jabs at Kenny and Shaq lol They are a beautiful trainwreck lol
defense is all about effort yes , u can out effort someone in the regular season if they are not prepared for it but the celtics are objectivley a better defensive team than the bucks i think in hte playoffs all those bad habits get magnified since the play style is more half court defensivley
Shaq is rarely right because he also draws from his experiences playing with a top10 player all time being Kobe and himself being probably most dominant player in history@@twizzy585ful Chuck is right
I had a hard time understanding what Charles was trying to say. He talks in circles and interrupts himself mid sentence with “ leh me teh you sometin “.
Chuck hit it right on in the head when he said "your habits matter" if you develop bad habits during the regular season its not going to go away magically in the playoffs.
lol Shaq has his guru moments. But still he is not at the intellectual level of Charles. He made an interesting point on the Eagles. I don't agree but it is interesting to hear.
What? How difficult was it to "predict" that a team at the end of a road trip, who had to totally exhaust themselves to win a game the night prior, to lose by 10 points to a premium team who is VASTLY BIGGER, PLAYING AT HOME, WHO ALSO DID NOT PLAY THE NIGHT PRIOR? That's like saying that the sun is hot or that gravity is real. That wasn't an amazing prediction. That was just stating THE OBVIOUS. Now if Shaq would have predicted that the CELTICS, at the end of a road trip, who had exhausted themselves in the game the night prior, playing a premium team, WHO IS VASTLY BIGGER, on the road, would win by 10 points, and then they did, THAT would have been an insightful comment by Shaq. It's not amazing that Shaq noted THE OBVIOUS, it's amazing that all of you are so clueless as to not understand the obvious. A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE REGULAR SEASON LOSSES BY PREMIUM TEAMS COME ON THE LAST GAME OF ROAD TRIPS. THIS HAS BEEN THE CASE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE 82 GAME SCHEDULE. It's just incredible how all of you make all the comments and "attempt" to analyze the game, and yet you don't understand even the most basic characteristics of the league of which you "follow".
Chuck vs Shaq is almost always Chuck being right and Shaq justifying his statement by asking Chuck how many rings he got because he has 4 hahahaha Dame and Giannis do not even sniff Kobe and Shaq's dominance. I don't think Shaq knows how far the gap between Kobe-Shaq to Dame-Giannis is the way he brings that up to the argument. This is coming from a Dame fanboy
How is shaq wrong when he is talking about something that he actually did before Chuck has never won all he said was it’s not time to panic Shaq’s Lakers lost plenty games in the regular season and people was talking the same way. It’s crazy how y’all downplay people who have accomplished things
@@Name-jw4sj the nuggets were 15th in the league in defense last year. The bucks are currently 22nd or 23rd. The only teams worse than them are jokes of the League like Detroit, Washington and San Antonio and Charlotte. There's a difference in being average, and being atrocious
Chuck is on the money. Bucks traded their defensive anchor in Jrue for more offense with Dame. Defensive stops still make the biggest difference in the playoffs and no way is this Bucks team getting enough stops in a 7 game series against Boston.
both made valid good points...There's no reason for the bucks to panic now. They are in a good position with enough talent to get them over the line, win the championship even. That being said they do need to work on their defense now so they can improve over time and cannot just hope to 'switch it on' when the playoffs come.
They have more understanding than Charles on how to win championships. Kenny won a Championship with a 6th-seed team (47w - 35L). Shaq was not saying the Bucks are not bad defensively and he didn't say they are going to win it all if the playoff starts today. He's just saying, no need to panic because there is still time to fix their issues. He said he would be more worried if they are experiencing this towards the end of the regular season.
Am I crazy to think that Charles and Shaq are both making valid points in this back and forth? Shaq is saying it's better for the Bucks to be bad defensively now (while they're still in second place) and then progressively correct their mistakes when it matters most. While Chuck is saying if you're playing bad on defense but still winning, what makes you think they're going to fix their mistakes.
I hope they still love each other behind the scenes because this show would never be the same with out these two. Its just a game but the sports world needs the Chuck n Shaq duo
Of course they do. U can tell they probably are mad at each other for something behind the scenes, but that’s okay bc that’s what men do. They’ll be fine by next show. GAURENTTEED
The closer you are to someone the more intense the argument seems. You know? It’s because they know they’re allowed inside an area others aren’t. These dudes love each other but love that $$ even more.
As a Heat fan the thing Shaq is talking about is the reason why we’ve beaten them twice in the last 3 playoff series against each other, 2021 the Bucks were scary because they played hard, and played great defense 24/7 365, not because they “turned it on and got a stop”. Chuck is bang on about developing bad habits just because you’re in a good place in January.
Exactly! Chuck is completely right. Even if Miami for example has bad nights, you can guarantee, that it's not because of bad habits, it's just an off night. They build these habits in Practice. I pick Miami at the moment to win it all, even though they're a 7 seed right now. You also saw with the Celtics tonight, they GAVE UP. Miami NEVER gives up. That's why they CONSISTENTLY BEAT more talented teams than themselves. They have these habits that get them ahead when the going gets tough. Boston, if Miami is healthy, is not beating Miami. Miami has missed Jimmy Butler in so many games already this year, Tyler Herro was missing many times as well. We haven't seen them playing at their full potential, and every night they're a force to be reckoned with, with this inconsistent lineup because of injuries and so on. 100% agree with Chuck and you.
@@robinali6903 The Heat ended up in the Finals because of timely hoops and ELITE DEFENSE. That is why Chuck is right. The Bucks record and placing in the standings is of no consequence if they cannot defend when it matters. They have Lillard at the point guard position, so they will always have an issue on the defensive end. Chuck is right.
Giants and Dame complement each other well but Dame doesn't play defense, their team has no depth and their coach looks like a rookie coach. They may have changed too much over the off season.
Never understand how bud and Monty Williams can be fired when they are going through losses on their lives….like come on give them a year to recoup man, not everyone is the same and can hunker down after losses….bucks and suns did the coaches dirty
Chuck is exactly right. If they don't do something about their terrible defensive habits right now they're not going to magically unlearn those habits when it matters.
Shaq: "They're gonna beat the Celtics tonight. By double digits. Guarantee!" He was correct. Bucks won by 33 points. They were even ahead by more than 40 points.
Our stater did either play the whole game we really didn’t care about this game we worry about the payoff not the bucks Boston can beat Bucks in a 7 game series so I not worried about this game
@chuckreddick3903 excuses excuses😂, yall whining about Bucks beating the Celtics in a B2B game for the Celts, when they played against the Wolves yesterday, Minnesota had a b2b too and no one made excuses about their loss. There's no excuse for getting blown up by 40pts. B2b games happen to every team in the NBA, getting blown out aint an excuse
Chuck makes a valid point. Bad habits are still around in pressure situations because that's your go to. However, they have a little bit of time to tighten up on defense and correct those habits before the Playoffs.
Bucks the last 2 seasons were in dire need of offense since Middleton was on a sharp decline and Holiday as also regressing on the offensive side at least. They got their offensive answer with Dame (even with poor percentages, Dame is putting up the numbers) but it's quite clear that Dame is an average defender, maybe even leaning towards being a poor defender. They also traded away Grayson Allen, a key 2-way role player that is honestly playing some nice ball in Arizona this season. Giannis and Dame complement each other well, but the Bucks lack so much depth especially on the defensive side of the ball that they are essentially, as strong as the Bucks team last season, just with a different problem: defense. Bucks need to be active in the trade market and be on the lookout for shopping Middleton and maybe even Lopez for some depth. They don't need anymore firepower on offense, what they need are two-way role players who can do their job right. Covington, Hart, Harrison Barnes, Derrick White type of players.
that's extremely generous calling Dame an average defender lol. He is awful on defense and always has been lackluster in that area. When the trade first happened everyone was worried about how their back court defense would suffer and they were right on the money
I agree with Charles Barkley, no defense is being played they're playing like bums, let's call it for what it is instead of keeping it real, he seemed to be the only real one that speaking on this episode. And this is the problem you also have, when you took out the zone, basketball use to be about strategy 💯😒 The NBA is just not defensively sound like it once was too many divas in the NBA. But that's what happens when you give somebody their paycheck before they do their actual job if you can understand that. 💯💯
I agree with barkley on most of the things he said on this video. But i agree with shaq that at this point in the season they shouldn't panic. They are playing overall very good and they have a lot of time to get better on those things they aren't doing well.
@@leonardoyi3183 I understand that they shouldn't panic, but my thing is don't go out there and play, like 8th graders. This is professional basketball that you get paid millions of dollars, but see, that's part of the problem, if not the problem, they get paid so much money, they don't give a damn about how they play. That's just my opinion, though, I'm with you on not panicking, but to get blew out by, for example, the Washington Wizards, just go out there and just throw anything up, that's not cool people pay their hard, earned money to see good basketball, not somebody that's just lazy and don't feel like playing. 💯
@@rodprops that's the problem, and that's why I see it, they're getting paid before they do the work. So when you get lackluster performances, that's why.
Exactly. Chuck acting like it’s the playoffs already and they are the 6th seed struggling to beat any team. They’re the freaking 2nd seed with a new team that had a major shift in the roster while integrating a new superstar. Especially looking at failed superteams like the suns, I’d say they’re doing alright.
Chuck is right, people were looking at the eagles and saying: - They have one of the worst defense of the NFL, anyone scores at will against them - Their QB is regressing from last year (was last year an outlier?) - They dont blow out anyone, not even bad teams "... But they win, ugly, but win". And then they stopped salvaging those coinflip games they have been winning with their tactics, their unstopable push play, and hero plays.
The problem with short guards is that in the playoffs defensively they get exposed. Prime example being Chris Paul. Regular season yes steals and tenacious pest but.. come playoffs these taller wings just go into the lane on him and shoot right over him. Dame is going to be a liability come playoff time whereas Jru was a huge strength.
Not necessarily true, short guards can play. Toronto in 18 won with Fred van fleet and Kyle Lowry. Both 6'0. The defensive system matters more than height. Isaiah Thomas on the pistons is also short and is a champion HOFer.
Jrue Holiday was the difference in MIL winning a championship, he did all the little things. They traded him for the shiny flashy toy Dame Lillard. Dame doesn’t play any defense, no surprise they suck defensively. Chuck is right.
This is overblown, they can still be a good defensive team without him. Loved Jrue but in clutch time you can't go to him, but you can with Dame. When you have the chance to get a guy like Dame, you get him. You can turnaround and get 2 other guys to make up for Jrue's absence. If anything, this is on MIL hiring an inexperienced coach.
They won a ring because Middleton was still an allstar level offensive player that season. They didn't lack any offensive firepower. Idk if you've been watching them the past 2 seasons, but they had early exits in the playoffs due to a severe lack of offense especially on crunch time. Giannis got double teamed on every drive he had versus the Heat and their guys couldn't knock down open shots whenever he passed to them Holiday was never a gifted scorer, and Middleton had a Klay Thompson-esque regression on offense due to all the injuries. They needed firepower on offense because if they didn't trade for Dame this season, the downward trajectory of their team would've just continued.
Charles is right. But Shaq is also right. It is not a time to panic, but the big picture says that Milwaukee has fundamental flaws just like the Eagles. Fly Eagles Fly.
Normally I'm on team Chuck. But this was a classic old married couples mistake: bringing a week old argument into a new one. Shaq handled it very well (and didn't even wave the 4 rings as usual).
Chuck has a solid point. I know this quote is kind of over used but Shannon sharpe said “don’t accept habits in a win that you wouldn’t if you lost.” The bucks are playing sloppy even if they win so they gotta get better in all aspects
@@pineapplegamer6986right Chuck was 💯 percent correct, Shaq always think you can just turn the light switch on, well if the switch is broken no you can’t, and Chuck was spot on telling Kenny you can’t compare a 72 win team to this Bucks squad….. had to come back and edit this, I guess the Bucks can turn it on an off, they doggin My Cs 😳 right now
Hard to watch NBA games other than my Cavs primarily because they go 10 deep and they play team b ball, but I look forward to watching these 4 on TNT .After I watch them I normally go back to Gunsmoke. There are obvious reasons ratings are tanking in NBA games .
I think they made a mistake trading Jrue for Dame and other pieces. Jrue Defense is one of the best in the NBA. It worked for a team like bucks. Jrue defense is Dame offense in a lower sense but still elite. Bucks truly did not need more offense
Mane they got beat in 5 in the first round against the heat. If they had dame last year no was they lose that series. Defense is great but if u can score points it doesnt matter if u hold the other team to 80 points
The problem was that with Middleton's injury issues, the team had no reliable second scoring option. So that put all the pressure on Giannis every game to show up or else the team loses to the better teams. I personally would've traded Middleton instead of Holiday for some younger two-way players who can get buckets when asked. Dame has been playing like crap for several games and can't defend.
They got embarassed last year and felt they needed to do something. No one was trading a star for Middleton so Jrue was the sacrifice because they are on the clock. Your #2, 3, 4 players are 32-33 to 35-36yrs old. That's an old team and Iannis will once again do his thing soon enough. This trade is also all on him. He passively aggresively threathened the team again and they responded with the only tradeable player. There is a two year window at most now and he'll finally ask out. This was an almost hail Mary.
Both Shaq and Chuck are night in their own ways. A team may be bad defensively all year and never get getter, or they might figure something out later on. Both are plausible. We'll see who's right come playoff time and see what kind of defensive effort the Bucks put in
I like how Kenny brought up the Bulls winning 72 games and didn’t mention the Warriors that won 73 games. We all know which team was the best that would be Jordan and the Bulls.
Bucks are still terrible . Celtics played OT defending home court. This win not changing the bucks situation. They not winning 🏆 this year, too bad defensively
This is a lot more civil than what they're usually like. Im surprised, almost shocked, at how concise both arguments are and the lack of "4 RINGS GOOGLE ME CHUCK" and "FIRST OF ALL".
What I like about this type of discussion is that while Shaq depends on the “I have rings” argument too often, he has inside knowledge of the “emotional” aspects of the game. He has been the best player in the world, has been at the center of a team that broke down because of egos, and has won a championship by learning to let go of the driver’s seat. And we just saw that Shaq was indeed right - when the bucks want to, they can humiliate the team with the best record in the league
But Charles' point is that anything can happen in one game but your bad habits are not going to go away that easily. Their bad defense is going to cost them more times than not and in a 7 game series they wouldn't be able to keep up with teams like the Celtics.
I agree with Shaq and as a 9er fan, it was good for the 9ers to get somewhat embarrassed by the Ravens because they were demolishing really good teams. A wake up call, teams will be giving their best especially when it is 1 and done. The Eagles were not playing as well as last year.
@@805fillmore and what is your team? How many championships or how many times has your team been in the big game? I suggest you see the teams with the most Superbowls, then see if your team is one of them.
@@arrunal1650 Just like the niners went out and traded for McCaffrey and Trent Williams? Niners are more of the dodgers because they haven’t won in 30 years.
I think you forget that Michael Jordan and the Bulls made sure Shaq would get no rings in Orlando! Also the Houston Rockets sweeping Orlando in the championship was another reason!
I cannot believe Shaq didn't just say, "I got 4 rings, Chuck - how many you got?" like he always does. It was nice for both of them to have a reasonable discussion without having to resort to that.
This was the 5th game in 7 nights for the celts, second night of a back to back with the first game having gone into OT. Milwaukee on the other hand was coming off 2 straight bad losses and you knew they were going to come out with a sense of urgency tonight. Celts looked like they were stuck in sand from the jump and seemingly mailed it in once the lead got close to 20. Ultimately I don’t think the celts are gonna lose sleep over this game in the slightest. Not an excuse to be losing by 40, but this game meant wayyy more to the bucks.
@@blunt0188how about you use your brain? Bucks continued to play their starters in the 3rd quarter. That means you WANTED that game. I guarantee Boston will beat the BUCKS in a seven-game series. And notice that whenever you play Boston, you have more than three days off. The league understands that's the only way the Bucks can stay competitive against the C's. Don't believe me? Look at the schedule for the last six years between our team's regular season & postseason. Lmao!
