Damn dude. I've had a a LTD MH-300 for 25 years! My dad bought me one right before he died when I was 13. One of the only guitars I'll never sell. Haven't seen another one in forever.
As an user of both multi-efxes, I go for NUX MG30, which is more dynamic compared to the Ampero. The Ampero might be easier for getting a decent sound, but the feedback of MG30 is way more better than the Ampero. Although dialing a good tone in MG30 could be a little difficult, the result always comes out perfectly, especially with some third-party IRs.
@@TaylorDanley Did you try out setting up pre-eq or output eq? I've changed mine to lower the pre-eq input trim a little bit down (to have more knob range from clean to distorted) and pushed the lows in output eq up for more bottom end. This definitely evens the default to more bottom end which makes setting up tones a bit easier to my taste. Before doing that I often pushed the lows in the EQ block.
I like the MG30 with the Custom IR. The Ampero sounds nasally to me, especially in the mix. The MG30 stock IR sounds better than the Ampero with either IR.
In my opinion the Nux MG-30 is a lot more "musical" than the Ampero. Maybe it's generating more overtones or better overtones, like a tube amp compares to a solid state one. The Nux is like the tube amp. The sound of the Ampero is just brutal noise to me, the Nux is music.
Awesome demo, Taylor. 😎🤘🏻🎸 between these 2 multi-effects processors, I think the hotone ampero chugs better. It sounds more organic compared to the nux mg30. The mooer ge200 is another good multi-effects processor for chugging. I own one and it is killer sounding. I like their peavey and diezel amp models.
Stock the Ampero wins hands down but toss that Custom IR in the mix and the NU-X gains a lot of ground back. Really becomes a battle preference for me there. There were sections I thought the NU-X with the Custom IR was it and vice versa. Nice shootout!
the nux sounded like it was recorded in the same room as the drums through tube gear, the ampero in a car boot, people who choose the ampero are not who i would want mixing a track clearly, clarity and calance but for the player internal dynamics or touch response, be interesting to see if the new headrush kicks it into touch
At first glance you’d notice the nux cutting throught the mix more so you’d assume the nux is better but if you listen a bit closely the nux has that dominant digital hissing sound while the ampero amazingly kept it under a manageable level even on high gain tones. In terms of digital mfx/amp+cab sims, i always try to find a device with minimal hissing on high gain sounds because it bugs me when you turn it up and you hear the hissing and in my opinion the ampero did better on this one. The shrill hissing reminds me of those old zoom mfx pedals hahahahaha
@@barryprosser1370 It's not dirty unless it's quick haha. Unless you're talking about Opeth or Dream Theatre, then you get long and dirty and that's just not right 😛
MG 30 with custom IR sounds the best really.. Ampero with custom IR sounds rather muddy.. If I were to rank them: MG 30 Custom IR, Ampero Stock IR, Ampero Custom IR - MG 30 Stock IR.
I almost bought Nux, but I saw the specs and I've found the loop time too short (I own a Ge 200 and it offers 90 seconds since 7 years ago!). There's no way I'm buying a Nux (I usually practice alone and it's very useful to me). Yes the dynamic could be better, but to the other side, lack of connections and poor loop, in a device almost 4 years newer... The firmware update in the website is stuck at the past year (like hotone)... It seems hotone more serious brand.
I had scrolled down to the comments and reading those "Ampero" sounds better while listening to the first Ampero part... which sounded quite fizzy to me. Then the first chugs of the MG-30 where hit and thought WOW.... scrolled up then 😅. One little tip on the MG-30 - depending on you taste it may be a valid idea to just push the bass in the global output eq a bit up. I think this will be a more satisfying default for many metal heads. @Taylor Danley: Did you setup pre-eq and/or output eq to anything else than the default?
When I did my review, I setup the global eq and boosted the low end dramatically. IMO you sort of have to if you want an even signal out of it. In this one I was just trying to get something without having to deep dive into too many parameters, I didn’t want to have to eq each one, but the mg30 absolutely DOES need to be eq’d to compare
@@TaylorDanley I think a video about how to setup good metal tones with the MG-30 would be interesting. I would argue that you could make anything to chug with the knowledge and finesse on how to do it. In my experience, for metal, the MG-30 straight out of the box without tuning the global eq for e.g. more low end could leave a mixed impression. If one does bring out the low end though it really chugs af while keeping its quite organic/dynamic clear nature. When played with it first days I thought reducing the treble might be what it needs but I think I might have just fooled myself by making it actually to loud to bring out more bottom end which overemphasized the high end. Now with the bottom end boosted it sounds more even with full bottom end while retaining clear highs and mids. Reading that you might came to a similar default setup reassures me in that. :)
Thanks for this one! I was really looking forward to this Chug Battle. I like the Nux (with custom IR) a bit better! Just ordered one. ;) Again, great and honest video! Keep on going! :D
the sound is about parity, nux is a little more natural with IR. BUT! 4 buttons vs 3, that decides. and as far as I know, nux has a long delay between switching presets. these two factors make it unsuitable for live performances. as for me
The nux may have an effects loop but isn't the whole point of modelers is having all of the effects in the unit so it's in one convenient package? Of course, with that said, I do run a drop tune and a wah pedal ( since I use the pedal on the ampero as a volume control so I can have both at the same time) in front of the ampero.......but that's it....... I also thought the Ampero sounded better. I'm sure that has nothing to do with the fact that I currently own one...........
Yes, but with an FX loop, you just have more routing options which is nice if you ever want to use a real amp, or other gear in conjunction with the unit.
@@TaylorDanley So if you have an amp and cab instead of having a big massive pedalboard with tons of pedals you could run your small compact modeler through the power section of the amp then to your cab? Yeah, now I can see a use for that..........
Sorry i still cant decide with those f...ing two... would you please do a Rectifier Challenge....also Bogner Uber... is the best amp in Μg 30 put that into battle..aarrghhh!!! give us blad wir thersty..!!!
I'd love to do that video, but I think the Quad Cortex is going to take up a bit of real estate on my channel soon. I'll keep my eyes out for a Kemper though!
Working on it! This is probably my most requested video lately. I spoke with headrush and they said they would be into it, so just waiting for shipment!
Have you played either through your head rush frfr? If so how did they sound? Thank you for shooting these kinds of modelers out this stuff is so valuable!
No, I hardly use the FRFR. It’s fine for what it is, but In my situation I’m either playing through studio monitors, or if I want to be loud, through my 4x12
Every amp modeling company kills me for not including a resonance for amps with one. Fractal is the only one, they add a presence why no resonance? I can't get my 5150 tone without a resonance, sure eq but not the same
I know what you mean, some have the deep paramter you'd find on the amps, but it's weird it's not on the main tone page. If you go to the speaker page you can adjust resonance amounts/frequencies for any amp.
@@TaylorDanley exactly, but like I know the new Atomic, their new resonance control is just a set low end EQ for all amp models, it's not a modeled control which is not specific to each amp
The ampero is a good sounding equipment,.... but, a shitty unit about quality, and customer support, less than two months and the ampero just die, Samash says that they don´t cover warranty for hotone, and the manufacturer says that if i want the warranty i have to send the unit to china and pay the round trip, after weeks on that figth, hotone says that i have to pay for the spare parts and the shipping.
It´s a shame I discovered this videoi whan I already bought my MG-30. Definetly the Ampero (which I also own but use only live) is better. I wanted the Nux for studio blend with the Ampero, but no way, as the Ampero is far tighter. The positive thing I can say is that the Nux sounds more "real"...which I don´t like, ha ha ! Finally: unfrendly software. No manuals except for the basic things that we all already know.
Way too much talk. Need a lot more playing and soloing. I like your videos, but I'd like to hear more the high gain amp presets and lead guitar. Great video quality.
