I think this could be one of the strongest cEDH commanders if it had more colors on to it. But this is an amazing azorius commander. Should not be underestimated. Chun-li Countless kicks has something definitely going for her.

actually there is a way to return sorceries from grave with her. by exiling [[Said and Done]], because you can exile Done, you can cast Said, because she says copy each card, and you may cast them, you may cast the Said half of it, allowing for infinite turns with time warp effects

So, the best combo I can think of at the moment is: 1) high tide (instant) U 2) Mystical tutor (instant) U (for an extra turn spell) 3) instant draw spell (instant) U 4) assuming you have 5 (maybe 6) Island in play, with the shuffle of Nexus of fate, 5UU, you have infinite turns there... What you can do with that is beyond my knowledge. Edit: With those 4 spells you'll need access to 5 blue mana and 5 generic mana to cast the 4 spells (assuming Nexus of fate as your extra turn spell.) And with 3 of the cards needed for the combo being instant spells, the combo might be hard to assemble, but is resilient so long as you can get the key cards into (and stay in) the graveyard. Also of note, the instant draw spell could be a white cantrip too, to reduce the dependency of blue mana. And as Mons said, you'll have access to the dramatic scepter combo... Or even just dramatic reversal and mana rocks to help cast spells, assuming Nexus of fate still for the instant speed extra turns.

You might be on to something. It is a lot of mana. But if we can sit and controll and controll we should have the mana to get there. We could also have dramatic reversal to help out here.

I'm making a non-competitive build of this right now, as the lair just arrived in the mail recently, and one of my revelations while building was that she benefits a TON from bounce spells, especially flexible ones like You Come To A River (1B: bounce a nonland perm OR target creature gets +1/+0 & unblockable this turn). It gives you a chance to control the board by casting them as tempo, or in the case of that specific card, you can use it to swing with her safely. But more than anything, exiling one of those bounce spells early will let you voluntarily return her to your hand in order to build a value engine of exiled instants. Think: frantic search, snap, mystical tutor, path to exile, shadow rift, shelter, etc. Thus, the goal of my deck is a voltron / cmdr damage win by building that value engine, getting key equip like swiftfoot boots / darksteel plate out, then landing her on the board in her little pillow fort before going to town on opponents.

Chun-Li has a lot of potential, and could truly be scary. Like you said, I'm glad she doesn't have more than two colors. She by herself gave me reason to want to get this Secret Lair, but the other Fighters might be fun too. E Honda is an absurd finisher for my casual Oketra deck.

Outside of my own weird, non-cEDH bounce-centric voltron build, there are certainly more competitive options. If you can assemble the board state, you can basically soft lock your opponents out of hurting you while you build up your collection of exiled cards. The ingredients... - "Opponents can't cast spells on your turn" effect: Grand Abolisher, Tidal Barracuda, Conqueror's Flail - Haste / protective equipment: Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves - Teferi's Protection exiled with a kick counter - Any creature bounce spell exiled with a kick counter With those in place, you can swing with her, cast protection, spend your remaining mana on other exiled instants, including the bounce spell. Sure, you don't get in damage that turn, but you can use a combination of exiled tutors to build up the board state you need to open up the pillow fort and start beating people down. Once you have swiftfoot boots and darksteel plate out, you're basically safe from anything but sacrifice, and you just need to cap off each combat with a finishing spell like Show of Confidence to really humble people.

would you be able to exile Said // Done with chun-li's ability since the Done half of the card is an instant? if so, you have access to the Said half and can return an instant/sorcery from grave to hand.

Yes, that should be possible. She copies the card in exile, which is the whole card. You should be able to cast either side of split cards while ignoring timing restrictions. However, you need to cast all the cards you want as part of the ability, you can't bank them for later.

Big thing to mention. Chu li say you may cast those cards, not you may cast them for free. So I assume you still have to pay for them and can only cast the spells after the ability has resolved, but before moving to the declare blockers step of combat at instant speed, which is why she can only exile instants.

Cast means you will want to have lots of draw spells and not so many "bombs" though. If it can't lock out right away (like an extra turn spell could) then I think you're looking for value and 1-2 drops

I don’t think you can stifle the shuffle? Correct me if I’m wrong but you won’t get the chance since it’s a replacement instead of the “shuffle FROM grave” like the eldrazi

Great video as always! However, the real reason why Chun Li is balanced is because you can't cast those copies for free. You can also build a very disruptive deck with plenty of wheel effects in WU and fill your graveyard that way, too. You can also include cards to reduce your casting costs like Grand Arbiter Augustin IV in the 99. So while voltron might be viable, I think stax/control might be good as well and then win via combo. At least the Street Fighter cards will begin appearing in the while at the beginning of August, so we have time until then to brew the commanders.

Someone please correct me if im wrong but... even if you have to pay for the copies, you can actually choose mods, alternative costs and all that stuff, this means that you can copy and cast a cyclonic rift paying the overload cost on each of your turns, or keep casting submerge for free and so on. Other cool stuff is copy a bounce spell like snap so each turn when you attack you can bounce an enemy creature or just bounce her back to your hand whenever you need just to re-cast her on main phase 2 to exile new stuff and keep the pool of cards in the kick zone getting bigger and bigger

You can exile mystical tutor with her, and use this to put turn spells at top every turn from your deck. This allows nexus of fate alone to go infinite.

you run "Sublime Epiphany" or any other "Copy target permanent" instant spell with Medomai the Ageless or Timestream Navigator or run Sage of Hours and have at least 5 spells that target it each turn which would fit the voltron theme as most of your commander buff spells could also be used to target the sage of hours you also have the ability to run flicker instant spells which the best ones are blue and white) with arachnomancer to bring back sorceries from your graveyard to cast extra turn spells every turn.

If you manifest nesus of fate it hits the grave as a 2/2 creature than flips and the trigger never happens and dose not shuffle back than you can kick it

this might be combo with a few too many moving pieces for cEDH but you could use a spell like [[Boomerang]] to return a [[mystic sanctuary]] to your hand and use sanctuary to rebuy an extra turn spell.

That’s actually not bad. None of the pieces are dead cards or even bad cards so they don’t actually have the big cost of “having to run a 3 card combo” plus there is a lot of redundancy.. all your fetches can find sanctuary, there must be a few decent bounce spells that will work?? (Maybe this is the bottleneck because they’d have to bounce lands) and there are decent turn spells that naturally synergies with a commander that has an attack trigger. Idk.. I think that actually could be good. Boomerang and capsize are not amazing cards but they are far from dead cards.. this is prob worth exploring. The bounce spells could return your commander to hand and let you exile more stuff too🤔🤔🤔

@@NewSchoolPOKERstrat There actually are a couple of land bouncing spells. Sadly most of them are at cmc 3 which seems a bit high. Below cmc 3 there are only 3 viable spells as far as i could find. There is [[Boomerang]] [[Light the way]] and [[Rescue]] and there are about 9 spells at cmc 3 that fit the criteria some with upside but they probably arent good enough in the end.

You have to cast all the copies cards as part of the resolution of the ability all going on the stack in the order of your casting, so you couldn’t gain mana in between casting copies from this ability

Chun Li definitely demands other permanent spells to function. You can go either flicker effect spam or reanimation effects.

Something really nice with Chun is that since she makes you have to pay the cost that means she allows you to pay alternative costs for spells. This means you can do something like Overload Cyclonic Rift with Chun's ability, which is just hilarious. I think Teferi's protection is also probably gonna be an all star in this deck.

Only a nonbo if you want to go combat damage route. If you are doing a lab man or thoracle win con then it makes you extraordinarily difficult to interact with.

Labman/Thoracle self mill w/ Angel's Grace or Teferi's Protection would work but having played against solitaire decks like Unesh, noone will want to play you after 1 game.

@@diegovelazquez6172 Yea the wording is tricky. The reality is that in MTG rules, it's not just spells on the stack that can be copied, but objects in exile can be copied as well. So you will create a copy of the card in the exile zone, cast the copy using the normal Magic way, then at the end the copy will cease to exist. Isochron Scepter actually uses this same wording. The main difference is that the copy is being cast, so things like Rhystic Study will still trigger and Archon of Valor's Reach will still prevent it from being cast. These things are not affected when a spell is being copied on the stack.

Though that doesn't mean you can't get it into the graveyard. You just have to manifest it first and get the manifested 2/2 to die without casting the card.

Archmage Emeritus draws you a card when you copy an instant, no need to cast it. Exile 5 kicked cards and you draw 5 every attack even if you don’t cast anything.

Doesn't work. When she attacks you get the option to cast these spells. But you have to make targets immediately. And they resolve on the spot. So you actually never get a chance to put nexus of fate on the stack. A bit hard to explain. But I think you can see it.

wouldn't ghostly flicker, a cantrip, and mystic sanctuary pop a sorcery out of the grave and get it to your hand for recast? Need 5-7 mana to get it running but it's the easiest way I can see to do it.

Tutor, Nexus of Fate, Infiltrate. Infinite turns and you attack each time. You could also use akroma's will and bam commander dmg win con. Also, use mystical tutor on Teferi's protection, then use a mill card on yourself like Mental Note to get Teferi's in graveyard. kick Teferi's and you can't lose the game so long as Chunchun-chan is able to attack. Just bide time until you can play Jace, the Mind Sculptor or Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. Wait for opponent to mill themselves or wait till you mill yourself and win.

It's too much mana every turn I believe. You need to cast the copies (by paying their mana costs from lightning kick) Another thing is you forgot about narset's reversal. You can return the extra turn spell to hand using it. One more thing is that you can't stifle the nexus ability since it's a replacement effect.

Ok there’s no restriction on when the copies may be cast. So if she attacks, she creates copies, and you now may cast them, that’s all it says. Seeing how they’re instants, wouldn’t that mean I can cast them at anytime

this card seems really slow for cedh (also one of the worse pairing colors) cause you have to pay for the cards (and if you're talking about looping a Nexus, paying for it will be a pain) I would say the best Street Fighter secret lair card is Dhalsim which is basically a Tymna with hexproof. I can see a winconless stax build with him or even in the 99 of other decks (Tymna / Kamahl for redundancy maybe or other decks)

I kinda like him too but I think Sidar of Kondor and tymna just dose the same but better. I don't see a better reason to play him over them. I have playtested her a bit in goldfish and she really draws cards and build up a hand size while interacting and counterspelling a few things here and there. It really feels like she works. Going to playtest her. You might be right. But I feel good about this one. I think the only thing that might make her bad. Is that if the wincon is just to problematic to get too.

@@cedhtv absolutely, I agree that Tymna + a green creature with partner will always be better than just Dhalsim. I'm just saying that if you wanna play in selesnya colors your best bet now might be Dhalsim (maybe even better than Selvala or Sythis) cause he's a Tymna haha

Flicker dosen't work because you det get to do any kicker cost on it. You need to return it back to hand and recast it. I like snap for that. 2 mana but then untap 2 lands so it is free to cast kinda.

actually, im not sure haste is very good in her deck, as you actually have to pay for the copies, so if you cast her with multikicker you will probably not have enough mana to cast every copy, or any at all

I am currently on the plan to mystical tutor for nexus of fate over and over. Not great. But it is going to be a controll deck so we could get there actullty.

I was looking at some wallpapers for her from street fighter for the video actually. In all of them she has really large legs. It is just how she was painted for the game I think.

Scroll of Fate to manifest Nexus of Fate as a creature. Kill it. It hits the graveyard as a creature, therefore it stays and can be copied.

Since you make a copy and cast the copy you could do infinite turns with nexus of fate since you will only shuffle the copy into your library. A bit expensive at 7 mana each turn but still really interesting.

The hard part is getting Nexus of Fate in your graveyard when you cast Chun-Li because Nexus shuffles into the deck the moment it hits the graveyard.

So besides you know.. Cyclonic rift overloaded every turn… the best they can do is attempt to kill your commander or counter the rift.. but the reality most people would probably just give up on that game. A fun “combo” grand arbiter and tafari’s. Sense of grand arbiter is there they can’t cast spells or activate abilities on your turn and every turn that isn’t yours well.. you’re not in the game. The only tactic they can actually do is mill you. Though that’s about it.. so most decks are kinda doomed… against it. Which also means you need a win condition sense tafari’s would stop your commander from attacking… oh look a storm card that’s a instant that mills 3 cards… would be a shame to fill your deck full of low cmc cards built to buff your commander… I mean why would you do that? Lol Yeah it’s prob not going to be cedh but it’s going to be fun… I mean, at the end of the day it’s voltron. I suppose you can draw out.. though that takes too long for cedh.. same with milling “normally”.

Side note there is a 2 mana instant in blue that copied a spell and returns the original copy to the caster’s hand.. you can technically do that to yourself for extra turns…
