Almost every day I see a church ask this question: “Should we build a church app?”
Maybe a church asks this question in a public forum. Or maybe they send me a DM or email directly.
It’s a fair question.
Mobile apps can be incredibly powerful platforms. But before your church begins building an app, I think it’s important to take a look at the actual data and statistics concerning mobile apps.
In my experience, churches that succeed with digital media (and platforms like apps) generally do two things very well:
1. They make informed decisions based on data - they don’t just blindly follow the trends
2. They don’t try to do too much
Want to know whether or not your church should build an app?
Keep watching…

Absolutely awesome Brady. I love a topical comparison backed by data. Can't get any better than this. Excellent info Brady. Thanks for doing a great job on researching all the various areas about this topic. I was needing some data and CBA regarding church apps and now I have it. This is the go to video/article for it.

This was so incredibly useful! We have been using a template based app for about 4-5 years... We chose it because our website wouldn't display well on mobile devices. Now our site looks great on mobile so this is great information and very timely for us as we decide what to do with the app...

Love that you make the case an app isn’t a replacement for a mediocre website

Wow. Thank you for the info. I watched the earlier version of this and you answered my questions in this updated video. It seems that apps aren't the way we want to go, especially the "rented space" v. a website where we can't get booted.

This was so helpful! I realized rather than spending time - strategic limited time - on developing an app for our church and Bible school, I should pour it all into making a stellar website and build our social media content. A huge waste of time and effort thwarted and I know we will be better for it.

Hey Brady, Thanks for this video. I Learnt SO much. I have so many people say a church app is the way and after this I am not putting all my focus, energy and the majority of my little budget into this.

I only use my church app, it's fast, has all the information I need in one central place, get direct links to live streams. Has daily one year Bible readings with audio. Easiest place to see all of the scheduled events with map integration. I wouldn't use anything else.

Mobile Apps is the way, just don't build it yourself. The stats show that most adults are spending their time on their phone within an app. NOT a browser.

What church app Plattform does your church use? Seeing as my small church has no working website we are looking for a Plattform with app for all our volunteers and staff to use to plan and cooperate for example.

I think that the biggest differentiator and draw of using an app is viewing media. Sure, you can feature a few videos on a browser page, but it becomes more difficult as you build an archive of content. Just look at the top apps you mentioned, many of them are media centered, because a native player is pretty much always easier to manage and use than videos featured on a web page.

Lord Kittens McTavish Many church website builders have this feature. WordPress even has plugins for it. And when you host your media on a website it allows people to view on desktop and mobile - not mobile only like with an app.

Thanks for the video! I’ve followed for years and I’m now having conversations about this with my church. Can you address this perceived benefit: the church app builder will also build our website so that makes it worth it right? Thanks 😊

I think if you're church app and church website both run on the same ChMS back-end, that's definitely a benefit. I wrote recently about that here: instagram.com/p/B76HN4shAwm/

I would like more information regarding push notifications. Is that something I can set up and send or does the recipient just receive it because their email or Facebook settings allow push notifications.
@prochurchtools
@prochurchtools 5 лет назад
JFBC Media Department just like a mobile they would need to enable notifications from your page/profile - similar to an app, you can’t send push notifications without authorization from the user.

When choosing online/mobile giving, would bundling an app with your software make sense?
@prochurchtools
@prochurchtools 5 лет назад
Hey Kenny - we recommend staying away from apps in general. Instead choose something web based, this way people can access it from any device, any time, anywhere. 😊

Ok, now give me a strategy to ditch the app we've had for 5 years. 😔 Too bad there isn't a way to automate creating a bookmark to the church's website on people's phones.

14:34-44 is almost prophetic. That one point alone should have churches wanting to be digitally self sufficient after watching Trump and Parler get de-platformed.
