Our church took a course with Chad Vegas (the video director at Bethel) and they have taught us so much about areas, switching, movement, and just how to look as good as Bethels stream.
We've been trying to get the best value out of our production equipment and this video helps tremendously! So excited to keep growing online as a church
Thanks so much for the videos on Bethel! Love them! I have always wondered how they do their production and now with these and their official production channel, it's so helpful. I appreciate all you're doing for us, Jake!
Thanks for doing this bro. I've learned so much from the two other Bethel videos you posted. Gonna run this one back a few times. Super thankful for the work ya'll are doing.
I think this video is more of a top level overview, rather than a deep dive into their setup. If you’re common to the production world you’ll recognize some of the EF lenses just by looking at them, but I would’ve loved a more in-depth look at their broadcast lenses and why they chose them, camera connectivity, their choices for wireless HD on stage, and even color profiles/LUT choices. Obviously this will change for each church depending on lighting, distance, etc...but knowing their approach could prove useful. Either way, Always enjoy you giving us a closer look at Bethel’s setup! Thanks 🙏🏽
EF primarily because we're doing a more cinematic approach to broadcasting and are lighter/cheaper than your Cinema lenses. We only use a few ENG lenses. One being our main follow (Canon HJ40) and the other for the jib (Canon HJ16). All cams but 2 are SDI hardlined. Cinegear Ghost Eye 600 for wireless. No LUT just extended video profile. We light for video first then the room. You can find a lot more information on our BethelProduction.com site and we have some Q&A archives on our Instagram that has some info as well.
Chad Vegas YOU, Sir, are the man 🙌🏽 Appreciate you so much for taking the time out to provide additional info! Can’t thank you guys enough for all you do to resource the Kingdom, many blessings to you guys 🙏🏽
Thank you for this series, it has really helped open our eyes to better ways of doing things, even on a much smaller budget. We just made the commitment to upgrade to a Living as One streaming solution thanks to seeing it used frequently in the various churches you visit both large and small. Ours is definitely on the smaller side but we are confident that it is going massively improve the reliability of our live streams. That has probably been the biggest struggle with our last few streaming solutions.
Very cool. We are going the PTZ route as we have a traditional new england church building so space is limited. We also have limited volunteers so PTZ allows us to have one camera operator for all views.
Heres another note about the pocket cameras from BMD: they DO NOT have SDI ports. You'll need to purchase additional equipment to convert the signal for longer runs. SDI is a much more robust connection. I wouldn't trust anything else.
Exactly. Experimenting with 6ks for another department right now. Vmount battery with USB. HDMI jumper to a mounted converter. Power the converter with USB. One SDI out so there’s no strain on the HDMI.
If your church (or wherever you're doing the multi-cam setup) have some small audio mixer consoles laying around, wire a mic and some in-ear monitor amplifiers to them and they're a great cheaper alternative for the intercom. Do note that this probably only works if the cameras are staying in one place and are near to the tech booth (you'll need a longer cable for the IEM if you're doing this for handheld cam ops) My church used two HXR-NX5Rs rigged on a tripod so that we could do this setup.
It’s interesting though because in some of the music videos some of the cameras are shooting faster frame rates while others seem to be on a steady 24fps so I was hoping to hear why they have 2-3 cameras shooting at what looks like 60 and the others are at 24
I would love to see how these production crews communicate. Production meetings and live situations. What equipment used to communicate that’s budget friendly. Any links would be appreciated.
Chad Vegas awesome. There is a lot of content there. A LOT to look at. Thank you. What is the equipment used for communication with the production team?
Thanks for this production. Are there possile solutions for completely wireless production camera system with transmitters. This is for placements on the roof or truss for aerial views indoors. Bottomline, i don't want to run cables at all to the production mixer. Any possibilities out there?
Thanks Jake, great content as usual. Are you able to list the specific video wireless system Bethel use? Or any cost effective video wireless system that you know of that you could recommend?
Great videos! But minor critique is equipment and level of setups getting beyond scope of smaller churches as far as ability or knowledge of video work and budget….. smaller churches I think more likely to watch these like myself, churches who using equipment in these videos have team of people handling media for them at this point, really enjoyed the videos for basic setup focused on beginners and budgets but realize doesn’t apply to everyone, great job guys though!
Good afternoon. You can tell me the answer to such a question. We have a ATEM Production Studio 4K. We plan to buy four Blackmagic Ursa mini 4K EF cameras, but there is a Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 4.6 K EF G2 video camera on sale. Is there a difference between these camera models in church video shooting? (in worship video shooting)
Pertaining to the crane shot, how is manual focus controlled? I didn't see any controls in the shots that I saw. Great video! Appreciate the tour! Context: Right now I'm working on speccing a crane shot using a BMD Micro Studio Camera. I am struggling to figure out how to control zoom and focus. I was thinking about using a Lumix Vario PZ lens, that has motorized zoom and autofocus. I am worried about the autofocus going rouge and producing bad shots. Any advice with that? (I would love to use a B4 lens, but I am on a budget) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Awesome video again!
We have a broadcast eng lens on it and control it via controls. That said, There are times when we just put a wide prime on there 14mm and just set the focus during set up.
Hi, we just received our Pocket 4K and starting out single camera at the front. I am wondering if there are any preferred LUT's to use or acquire outside of the included LUTs, that'll give us that broadcast quality look? In our context, we aren't doing dark or low light; we are lights on all the time.
Great review! Question: I use the HC-X2000 Camcorder to stream with Atem mini extreme by connecting it with an HDMI cable (I'm not in rec) after 5 minutes the camera turns off. How can I deactivate stand by. Thanks!
Our church recently bought the canon xa 40 camcorder and wanted to see what you guys thought of it compared to the black magic pocket cinema 4k because they come in at a similar price
Yeah... I know what you mean about them being the same price but they aren't... The body for the BMPC4k is cheaper but then when you add lenses and tripods etc. It adds up to a-lot more. But I prefer the BMPC4k mainly because of the colours and low light situations. It has a better overall image
Thank you for these great videos! One question, What are your thoughts about the BM Studio Camera 4k 2? I don't have the budget for the Broadcast camera, but I would like color control for my cameras. Do you have any experience with the Studio Camera 4k 2? Thanks
Yeah... The color is great on them and would work well in a church environment... however, you would need to plug it in the wall or find a different power option as it drains through batteries really quick.
We have two of the studio cams. We have had them for two years I believe. They work, they don't work well depending on your style. Our style is much too quick and light levels change a lot. Those cameras do not do well at all with light shifts or lower lighting. But they do look clean.
We have the studio 4K 2 and I would strongly recommend moving to the pocket 4K or 6k. They dynamic range and low light is better. You can preload your own luts you design for color and it has dual native iso that is much more precise. The studio 4k 2s are about 4 years older and the technology in the pocket 4ks / 6ks are dramatically better.
@@robelder We usually live between 1.4 and 2.8. On rare occasions, we'll go up to 4. Everything comes down to lighting. We light for video first and then the room.
Hello my friend! Hope you are keeping safe ? Kindly help me on this technical matter. I currently stream 1080p 60fps using 1,000kbps bit-rate while my internet upload speed is 20mbps and it gives me optimal output quality, kindly advise me, if it's possible to same 1,000kbps for multi-bitrate but using a 70mbps internet upload speed without having any issues
@@davidostapuk thanks so much, if you dont mind me asking, how did u find this out because ive tried looking everywhere and theres not a single video on it
Timothy Shibu Np, I forgot where I saw Drake Kelch(Head of Bethel Production) say it, it was either on a q&a on their Instagram or someone asked on the Bethel Production RU-vid livestream that they have every Sunday. They got the sheets of plexiglass at a local store
@@alivemusic9428 I belong to a church where the windows are huge and the people love to sit in the light. We don't need theatre lights because we don't do theatrical church. We simply praise God in song together, read His word, pray and listen to Bible ministry. When it's dark we use the room lights plus a couple of spots for the platform. That's all we need, and our hall is packed every Sunday morning (outside Coronavirus lockdown of course).
@@KendalSmithy I understand that and it is really great but for a much bigger church like Bethel, Hillsong, Elevation it doesn't work. They are broadcasting to thousands of people and have thousands in the venue. But if they could I'm sure they would consider natural light more.
@@alivemusic9428 Excellent point. To get good, even daylight into a large auditorium you need height, and the higher the building the greater the cost. I guess there's also a danger that smaller churches try to emulate the big ones and block out the light for no real reason other than to make themselves look bigger than they are.
Consistency and control. I know that every time I turn on that camera, the settings are almost dialed in. I’m not fighting against an uncontrollable variable with natural light. I love windows in church! But for broadcast, it’s not helpful.
Regardless of if you like Bethel's theology or not, you can't question their production quality. They are the standard when it comes to super high quality video and audio in the church.
Tom Brush It’s not necessarily an obsession, the Bethel people are just really good at what they do. In his first trip to Redding, Jake was able to capture content for an hour long video, in his second trip he captured enough content for 8 videos!
This is a tragic confusion of heavily produced entertainment with worship. The two can exist in parallel, but one should never be confused with the other.
@@Vchrome_ Not really... It's good to disagree with some things but their work as a whole is good. You can't think of the church as a whole being bad because of you opinions only.
