Yeah I'd definitely be interested in seeing more of this mate. During times like this, most churches are having to livestream or do prerecorded broadcasts online. So it would be good to get an idea through your constructive criticisms as to what to do and what not to do. Font was never something I thought too much about, so good to know.
Hey, Jake! John-Marc here, I’m the director of worship arts at Ahop Church, the second stream you reviewed. Jason shared a bit of what we do but not exactly how we get our audio to where it is. We do not run off the foh feed. We actually have a completely separate board in a studio recovering 32 channels from our stage box. From there I am sending everything into a Mac computer running protools and specifically Luke’s template which you promoted and I purchased...so thanks a ton!!! We have been experimenting and learning as we go but I will say that waves real time tune is far better for us than any other plugin for our vox. Can’t recommend this template or the plugins you recommend enough!!!! We do run our system slightly different than Luke does but only because I like an insurance policy. The soundcraft board acts as my back up should the protools session crash, which has happened. Not much but it can happen. We mix the template session first and then the best version we can off the board. That said, there is absolutely no comparison. Thanks again for all you have done to help churches like ours and just so you know, our pastor watched your feedback and immediately said, “let’s get the cameras we need.” Thanks again and blessings on all you do bro!!
So helpful for us just beginning to realize that our simple livestream have so much room for improvement. Cameras, lights, audio, and software reviews will help us adjust, so please keep reviewing what others are doing. Thanks!
I think this is helpful. Very few churches have "pros" to help them evaluate and make adjustments. Like one comment, I think having others on-screen with you might give some perspective or alternate ideas than what has worked for you in your situations. We all need constructive help, no matter where we serve :) Thank you, Jake, for thinking of us in making this sort of video.
Awesome conversation and feedback given. I think more of this kind of thing is what can practically help a lot of us in the church production world get better!
Super helpful to see these reviews! Thanks for doing this. Our church is nowhere near the production level of the churches reviewed in this video, but it's nice to get tips like these along the way so we're setting a framework for scalability as we look to increase our production level one phase at a time.
Man dude love this video! Also love seeing you do some stuff with my friends over at Austin Stone. I love those guys, and a couple of their leaders have poured into some over the years. I think it’s really cool to see God using this channel and the fruit that’s come from that. I remember when you had like 4K subs, and man you really were faithful to what God had given y’all with that. Think it’s cool how many people God has reached and even maybe recharged through this. Love it man! Keep dwelling in that land.
Second stream sounds great, volume is spot on and clarity and balance is great. I would probably use some different reverbs if possible (ie plates) as they sound a little bit better for streams in my opinion. Halls tend to get a bit boxy or washed out
Hi Jake. What console (Universal Audio Interface) are you using @ 2:10 - Our team could really use an audiometer. We have a member (normally myself when I'm not on location or my wife) that monitors the audio and video quality from home (to portray the user's point of view).
At 12:40 you mention using a vocal tuning plugin. Is that some you just suggest for the mix that is going out to the livestream or could that be a common practice for the house mix to help tone challenged individuals? I know that it just made to correct slight variations and not notes that are completely out of the ball park, but just wondering.
Would really like to know how often this is done. There are a couple of things that I want to fix, but soon after I would love to submit our livestream for an honest review.
Great content from you and the churches...maybe it was me but it seemed the first two were off on audio sync. Just a little behind the audio. We are a small church and produce nothing like any of these but we had to adjust the audio to delay to match the video. Thanks for all your videos, been watching a lot trying to learn how to make do with what we have. Our church is brand new into livestreaming. Audio is kicking my tail...grrrr!
Getting the audio right is the hardest part about live-streaming a church service. Keep at it, every incremental change you make from week to week will eventually lead up to something you are happy with.
Re: church 3... Bands and vocalists who aren't pros tend to get louder when they get excited and when the tempo gets faster. In most cases, they also play/sing a lot louder on the first song than they did in rehearsal!
" I saw the vision from Jesus. On the right side of the valley behind the pit and 2 ghouls I saw a crooked path of circle saws made for cutting made of rusted silver and gold. Not more than four in a row. No machine making them spin counter clockwise and whirring. " Wesley Lawrence Curry II
Agree totally. I saw some of the videos that were posted in the fb group and was excited to see feedback on them since they were smaller. Over 50 percent of churches in america are under 100 people and don't have the resources that the churches we just saw do.
These churches should look into investing in something like an optimod. (The PCIe version, optimod 1100, is like 1000 usd. Or when you want software only, StereoTool starts at 30 USD for just the multiband and limiting and BreakAway at 100 IIRC) Those are great as final processing. Especially when you arent doing a seperate stream audio mix. You don't have to pump them like radio stations do. But they still make everything balanced, loud and clear. As for the text on white background, a trick I learned in broadcasting is, put text on a white background. Then add shadow (photoshop) and make it a bit wide and just transparant enough that you can make out the text. Also make sure the shadow is 100% centered with the text, not a bit down or to the side. Use those settings during the video (or reference when you use other software live.) Because on normal conditions, you won't see the shadow almost at all but on bright condition, you can see the text easily.
Two big problems with churches getting into live streaming at this time. 1. Listing to way way too much bad information about how to go about it. I can't even say enough about the bad info. 2. Buying cameras that want perform well in average church lighting. Your lighting may look good to the human eye sitting inside of your church. Does not mean it will look good to a cheap/low budget camera with a small sensor. Tips on buying a camera, buy a video camera, you're doing video not stills. If you're going to use a fluid head (for pan/tilt) and or run cables long distance (over 20') buy SDI not HDMI output, it will be about $500. But you want need to buy adapters and other hardware. Buy one with at least 1 inch sensor or at least 1/2.84 inch. Examples with SDI output, Canon XA55 or XA15. Examples with HDMI output, Canon XA45 or XA11 there are other brands with similar specs. Less face it you could start streaming this Sunday with a smartphone and a RU-vid or Facebook account and wouldn't cost ya a dime. Pick out a couple of churches in your area that's doing a good job at streaming and go look at how they are doing it. Hopefully you can find one or two that's been doing it for several years. There's lots of good info in this video about lots of big mistake$$$. Good job Jake!
Drum bleed in the 4th one is most likely due to off gain stage throughout the overall audio design. My church went though The exact same thing when starting to use a DAW for broadcast. I came on staff and found an overuse of compression to make quiet things loud and loud things quiet. There might be an overuse of compression on the 4th livestream.
Jake you should take a look at centro vida on RU-vid there live stream looks like it’s legit pro and they shoot on a7IIIs it’s in Spanish but everyone can appreciate good camera work and directing
I can't find an easy way to put an audio level meter for the your tube video like you did with your Universal Audio Interface in PC... I would like to monitor my levels coming out of youtube in real time... any advice? I want to do it with just a laptop connected to the internet and the yt streaming on.
we are using a x32 and is using a bus mix then sending it to a camera then going back into a pc my question is should the audio feed go direct to the camera or the pc ?
I totally have a question in regards to BMPCC4K and 6K camera’s for live streaming. It’s often suggested but people rarely say what kind of LUTs work best to use with it and where to go to download it. Can you suggest some popular LUTS you’ve seen people use for live streaming with those camera’s?
We use one of the built-in luts. i cannot remember the exact name of it, but it's on the second page of luts in the menu and it has the most natural look with sufficient contrast and ratio.
James 5:3 (KJV) Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
Im gonna disagree about the 3rd church’s acoustic guitar. It was a tad bit too loud, but with some practice they can figure out how to have the acoustic guitar seated a little more than a shaker. It looks silly seeing members onstage using instruments that we never hear
need help - - our wireless mics have a on of interference - we can't find a clear channel - makes live streaming a nightmare...have you done a video on this???
@@ZTTowell Hi! We have a very limited amount of equipment. We use a canon t6 with the canon webcam softwere, OBS studio and the lyrics program is Holyrics Thanks in advance for your willingness
I SAW, IN A VISION FROM JESUS, A VALLEY AT NIGHT. A FULL MOON WITH A BRONZE AURA IN A STARLESS NIGHT SKY. I COULD NOT TELL ON THE HORIZON IF IT WAS MORNING OR EVENING.
6:39 Practicality question: When you have a frame like that, would it not be better to disable the lower thirds for the online user momentarily because the camera is basically displaying the lyrics?
I would think having a consistent place where lyrics are would be better than making people hunt over the screen if the camera should change. Just my first thoughts.
Our live stream is struggling right now. We are using a HC-VX870 Panasonic plug-in to a cam link to a Mac book pro then going live on Facebook. I am using a hot spot from my phone for now. Any suggestions?
Helvetica is too generic and then you are suggesting Futura and Montserrat? Literally the most used fonts in the world haha. Love the critique but fonts may be chosen for certain reasons (i.e. it's the overall church brand that the tech team have to stick to) and the team doesn't have control over that! I personally love Helvetica (Neue) and think it's a really great option for this!
