The Maverick glove is a spring/summer glove brought to you by Churchill and you guessed it, it’s not summer. It’s late fall! And honestly I’m still wearing these things. Super versatile. Just to kind of get it out of the way - this is your classic leather glove. Pretty much known from the Sons of Anarchy, apparently all of the cast wore them when they were riding. I’ve never watched the show so I wouldn’t know. It’s really doesn’t have any branding to it but it really doesn’t need it, its just that classic. Anyways - I really like it. That being said I’m not necessarily pick them for my morning commutes in the winter when it’s 36 degrees, I will however use them for the super quick 5-10 minute ride around town.
This glove therefore is an easy slip on classic leather glove with some stunning details to really set it apart, for example the added strength and durability from the double stitched thumb. The fingers are also sewn at the base of the finger, which adds a nice feel and a pretty solid aesthetic.
The fit on the fingers make it super easy to hold onto the handle bar. Even with no cuff adjustment you get a quality glove that fits your hand really well. I’ve got a size large and although it feels like a slight tight squeeze getting into the gloves feel perfect while riding. There is even some stretch to the fingers giving some extra maneuverability which is another nice touch.
Like I said before this glove is meant to be more of a summer or spring glove, I would almost say Fall too.. though if you’re located in the colder climates I would avoid wearing it in the winter.
As for the material, this is made in the USA with deerskin leather. They have a pretty wide selection of colors too - mine are in tan obviously, however they have anywhere from black to purple which is pretty cool. You can even select to have a padded palm stitched in or a Velcro strap. I went with the padded palm on mine. Super comfortable. I originally bought this glove when I was riding my 1963 Ducati Bronco so I was definitely looking for a glove to match the vintage vibe. It worked. Anyways back to the glove - The lining feels really nice, as you can tell there’s a padding on the palm. The reinforcement in the gloves feels really quality, I haven’t personally crashed badly enough to need to test these gloves but I feel confident that they would provide some good protection. Wearing a glove is of course better than no glove regardless.
So - what’s the breakdown? The Chruchhill Maverick glove is a vintage looking leather summer glove with some quality attention to detail with regards to stitching. The premium leather makes the Maverick an ideal summer or spring riding glove. The glove is an excellent fit and provides a great feel for your controls. I really enjoy riding with these gloves and I’m sure you would to. At only 65$, I’d put these as a must-have if you’re looking for something a bit more retro and simple, while still providing for a bit of safety while riding.
