"Sam. See those footprints you left behind? If you were a spy on a mission, you would fail. But you're not, so be proud of those steps Sam. Let everyone know that you exist. The paths you've chosen inspire other people."
It's a shame cause we are allowed to have opinions but for most of us know that this game was just next level it just felt like an adventure it felt like playing Zelda and Mario it gave us the feels that was buried by all these generic games. And the only reason I mentioned the opinions is because a few people see and play this game and think it's just another game when in reality it's not. Games like these don't come too often and I'm very honored to have played death stranding.
@Terence Montesinos In what way is her performance awful? She's hitting most notes, being only a few micro tones off in most instances. The performance is exciting and conveys the message of the song loud and clear. Her vibrato might sound off, however at least she makes a genuine attempt at changing the frequency instead of just "shaking" her voice. Live performances are very hard on singers. Her voice is sharp and powerful and therefore cracks at times, noticeable when live. This does not occur in her acoustic performances as she uses a darker, more mellow tone. Perhaps you have a problem with the way she sounds, now that is up to the beholder and no amount of technical scrutiny is going to help me relate to that, but I do understand where you'd be coming from. (Her falsetto can be a semi tone or two off but as far as live performances go this is one of the good ones. The problem in dynamics might be due to the mics no idea about that.)
Death Stranding is going to share the lineage of MGS 2: a game with a lukewarm reception that people realize was truly prophetic and brilliant years later.
It’s in my top 5 games ever list (which I try to differentiate by genre). Absolutely epic game. I don’t consider someone a real gamer, ie someone who consumes the medium intelligently, unless they are willing to play to this credit song. If I had to teach a university course on game design, this game would take up 2-3 weeks.
Amazon still delivering after the apocalypse, asking for more in return from their employees just so those employees can get a simple text reading “thank you” Yup. He’s nailing the realistic future that awaits us
@@Deminogg Those people were doing it to keep themselves safe. We made those deliveries BECAUSE WE HAD TO. Even if not everyone wishes to help prevent inevitability, someone will. That's how life KEEPS GOING.
@@alarikmarcus That tends to happen with these live shows and big halls and stages... They seem to not be able to get the mix right. And it's not easy, but then they should get competent people to do it.
@@Miadaskate Yes, and mascara running, lol. People will literally screech and grind their nails on a chalkboard and call it "music". Flip on a machine and then say they're a "songwriter" LMAO
@@Miadaskate If you only see that is because you may doesnt need too see, you may need to hear instead. Chvrches isnt some band making electro/pop, they really have a solid music proposal.
I bought Death Stranding when it came out but never got a chance to play it because of how busy my holidays were. I finally played it because of the quarantine. Not only did I love the game, I appreciated the delivery gameplay because it helped the story. The story was a true journey and really asked if humanity deserves to live on. Then to wrap up this game with such an amazing song....This was my game of the year
I had the exact same experience as you, Michael. I had the game, never had time to play it, but during the quarantine I decided it was time to play. Man, I'm so glad I did. And I agree, the deliveries are an essential part for the story, to appreciate where you are and what it costed you to arrive there at the end of the game. I finished it 2 days ago and I still can't get over the fact it's finished, like when you finish a good book, you know?
Amazing song and an amazing game. Loved every second of playing the game and listening to the amazing songs. Gave me strong emotions! especially with this song at the credits.
@Art is an Explotion Yes, I have. Death Stranding is one of them. Just because you didnt like it, doesnt mean its bad, buddy. I bet you either havent played it, or got bored because it isnt all shooty shooty bam bam. Bad Taste.
I don't play just any game twice, but Death Stranding is such a unique game that made me come back and experience the journey once again. When I was tired and lonely, frustrated at times, the music soul searching and haunting of Death Stranding gave me hope and the energy that I need it to take one more step in to the journey to save and unify humanity. Definitely a Masterpiece of a generation.
That or the most tedious game you could ever play, according to many reviews. I own it now but I've not tried it yet - so I'm neutral. Just saying what others have said about it.
@@WondersChannel I bought it at release and tried it. Tried it again a few months later. And I think I even tried it yet another time. Always turned it off when I got to the invisible ghost things, along with the balls-crazy story. Didn't think I'd ever give it another look, until the sequel was announced with it's trailer. So I decided..."I'm going to force myself to play this game to completion", to see what/why many people consider DS to be a masterpiece and one of the greatest of all time. I went in this last time, with a different outlook. Somewhere around the 5-7 hour mark I think, it took hold. I was falling in love. It took my feelings in all kinds of directions, up and down. Really amazing. I finished it a couple of weeks ago, and man how I miss the game. It truly is a masterpiece! :)
Death Stranding was not the game of the year, but the game of the generation. Hideo Kojima gave us a unique experience, in the middle of so many generic games. Death Stranding is a game beyond its time, Kojima is a visionary, the game was released in 2019, and what he portrayed, a lot of us are living in 2020! After we overcome this pandemic, we can create more bridges, stairs, ropes and no more walls. We must unite and not separate. Death Stranding is a true masterpiece! Thank you Sony for believing in Kojima's vision and thank you Kojima for delivering a game that many will still understand how important it was in the industry and in people's lives.
@@josephzayas3715 that's why their making another version, that explains more, but eh its all about personal preference, just not for me,game of a generation is a little too much I think, but thats all just my opinion, as long as you enjoyed it,is all that matters
This performance @thegameawards made me decide to purchase Death Stranding and i'm glad i did... not only is this story amazing but the soundtrack is one of the best i've ever heard.
@@sergeantsilly5239 Because they were all involved in Death Stranding and I didn't mean having the camera on them all the time. Like, at 3:37, that should've been Norman and Kojima. Instead, it was a wasted shot of random people I dont give a fk about.
I think we all can be really happy for enjoy this song, this score and this performance. Fortunately, music, beauty and art is not a matter of you vs me :)) (and games neither. I’m really bad playing Sekiro, but I think it’s an amazing game, even when it’s not for me)
They did the song justice, that was beatiful. Live music performances at the game awards can be a hit or miss, this was definitely a hit! Aside from a bit low volume on her mic this was probably the best one they ve ever done and was executed so damn well. Her performance was amazing and all the visuals, effects, the orchestra, the costume, the transitions were all on point. More of this at the game awards please
It made me want a kid of my own … that section where BB is in the lab and how life got harder without BB for Sam to see the bad guys….innocence helps you see pitfalls
where can i just get a hoodie with that lining? where can I buy a bridges hat? I'm 40 years old and this is the first game I've gone fanboy over in...decades.
I played Death Stranding at the start of the pandemic. In such a unique way, it was an escape to be in such an immersive world with great story telling & it was all capped off with this song in game. This live performance moved me.
I’m so proud of these guys! Mirror”s Edge was great, but this is INCREDIBLE and I hope you continue to expand and grow. 🖤 I’ll be a fan forever and can’t wait to see who else you collaborate with!
Only playing the game gave me an appreciation for this whole performance, from the song and the visuals, to the costume with all the accessories. It stirred emotions in my soul.
I came here once again after the announcement of ds2. can’t wait to come back in this amazing world once again. thank you, kojima, for making me less lonely and more ambitious!
“Let's make a toast to the damned Waitin' for tomorrow When we're played out by the band Drowning out our sorrows What will become of us now at the end of time? We'll be fine, you and I Let's draw a line in the sand Keep it straight and narrow We had it all in our hands We begged and then we borrowed What will become of us all at the end of love When we've stopped looking up? You can take my heart And hold it together as we fall apart Maybe together, we can make a mark in the stars, we embark And keep us together as the lights go dark Let's tell the truth, just for once Asking for an answer Now that it's all said and done Nothing really matters What will become of us all if we dare to dream At the end of the scene? You can take my heart Hold it together as we fall apart Maybe together, we can make a mark in the stars, we embark And keep us together as the lights go dark Let's open up to the sky Askin' it for closure 'Least we can say that we tried But it's never really over What will become of us all at the end of the line? Will we live? Will we die? You can take my heart And hold it together as we fall apart Maybe together, we can make a mark in the stars, we embark And keep us together as the lights go dark And you can take my heart And hold it together as we fall apart Maybe together, we can make a mark in the stars, we embark And keep us together as the lights go dark”
As a PC player who just got into the game a few weeks back, I feel like I missed a lot of the fanfare around this game. Seeing this opening song, hearing about the World Wide Tour they did back late 2019 - I wish I could have gone to one of their events. This game seems even bigger now to me than playing through it. I hope there is a DS 2.0 coming....even if its more than 3 years off, it will be worth the wait :)
A prequel with Cliff's POV would be something really interesting... or a prequel after Death Stranding event with Sam doing his PORTER's deliveries until the very entry scene of DS, maybe.
I disagree insofar as I think Death Stranding is a complete work. I think Death Stranding said all it needed to as an art piece and while I’d love to see other developers and maybe even Kojima himself try to tackle and iterate upon the game’s innovative approach to traversal and its way of fostering themes of connection and mutual aid through gameplay mechanics, I also really just want Kojima to do whatever he wants. Part of the beauty of the new independent Kojima studios is that they’re free, no longer tied to franchises like Metal Gear, and can explore whatever worlds, whatever themes, whatever mechanics they damn well please.
3-4 years later still the best performance out of everything game awards these past ten years hope you have something special in December Geoff for 2023
Chvrches has come sooo far. My favorite band all time since I learned from them when playing Mirror's Edge: Catalyst (Warning Call). Beautiful performance!!
Been in love with the song since it came out♥♥♥ also I like how Lauren dyed her hair silver and did her makeup😃 maybe she got inspired by Cliffs character
This song perfectly encapsulates the emotional intensity of the last few chapters of the game. I don't know if or how Kojima will ever top Death Stranding, because it is absolutely flawless.
The Game Awards: Feature an entire orchestra playing all the hearth-breaking songs of the year, with also the original authors. The Oscars: I don't know, i don't watch them anymore.
Wish I could give a million likes to this video and Chvrches. I love them and Kojima so so much. So glad he included them in his Death Stranding project. They are both amazing artists with life long brilliance and talent.
