Loved his work in Black Sails which is a criminally underrated show. I was really shocked and happy to hear that he was working on GoWR, even if I won't be able to play it.
Everyone is just super serious when performing and Bear McCreary is just there headbanging while playing the goofiest instrument ever and it's fantastic to see!
i didn’t expect to get emotional, but the moment the choir started singing, my eyes welled up. the journey i went through with kratos, atreus, freya, sindri. brok, AND mimir in the game will always be in my heart.
@@nikobello101how is it any different than an emotional film? TV series or book? Books and games are usually even more impactful because of the amount of time you spend with characters. Open your mind a bit
Its not very often that a Hurdy Gurdy gets so much recognition. He got such a prominent spot on stage, I bet he was more than happy to show off his skills with that beautiful instrument.
Bear McCreary, also: breaks hearts with acoustic fiddles. Still Bear McCreary: let's have ALL THE PERCUSSION AND BAGPIPES! (Thank you, Bear, for your work on Battlestar Galactica)
oh man, Battlestar is still his crowning work for me, but for sure the artistry he's brought to GOW has been incredible, especially the Huldra brothers melody.
@@philcordwell9123 My boyfriend and I played the game together and absolutely lost our minds when we first ran into him. Our level of nerd is almost on par with the devs' level of legend 😂😂
@@hazelmarie3219 spoilers alert. Aftet beating the game you get a quest to go to brokk's funeral. After sending off brokk you go to leave and another credit roll goes by and it plays
Incredible performance all around but I do want to draw attention to the fact that we just got a live hurdy gurdy performance in 2022, this may be the best timeline
@@Axmza Obviously yeah, though sometimes the sentiment behind a song can really give you chills and tears even after years of performing/ listening to it. For me, for example, The Unforgiven by Metallica, is often a tear jerker.
Its concert musicians etiquette and the vinductors orientation for the orchestta musicians not to demonstrate these kinds of feeling while playing. Dont like it either
Rewatching this and something fascinating I never even noticed is Hozier must have been having issues with his In-Ear Monitors during the song. At 0:56 you can see him adjusting them, realises it doesnt work then goes for his mic box at 1:06. Probably couldnt hear himself the whole time and still gave a perfect performance.
This song has been stuck in my mind for the last couple weeks, and I love it, I love the theme, red on white, blood upon snow, ofc means literal blood on snow, and Kratos’ red tattoos that he got to honor his dead brother, on his white skin, which his the ashes of his dead wife and daughter, and this might be a reach but, “every bird, gone unheard, starving where the ground has froze” could be talking about Freya, she can transform into a bird, and her “ground froze” when she held her dead son in her arms “starving” could be “starving for revenge” which she is, but again, this might be a huge huge reach, I haven’t seen any videos on what the meaning of the song is, but the main idea is pretty straightforward
This has already become one of my favorite songs. And I just love how Hozier's voice is the same in the albums and when he performs live. He is truly amazing as is McCreary.
Bear McCreary is absolutely legendary! His work on Battlestar Galatica, The Walking Dead, Black Sails, Outlander, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and of course God of War: Ragnarok, just proves it. He is absolutely one of the best modern composers of all time.
2:04 and the rest of that verse absolutely communicate with my soul in a way that i simply can't put in to words. It feels like i not only relate to the words, but the feeling of the words as well. This is the pinnacle of unfathomable beauty.
I can't stop listening to this. It's so beautiful. The message to me portrays someone who hates their past self, the violence they caused was needed but they don't like what they did. This person has grown to try a more peaceful approach- yet is still forced to revert to their old ways.
Agreed but also honoring those he failed in the past. His wife, daughter, and brother. He never forgot them and wants to be a man they would be proud of. A man who must be better.
Bear has come a long way since Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles. Been a fan ever since. Everybody that hasn't heard his work before should definitely check out the theme song from that show.
First time I heard his music was Agents of Shield. The score for the show as a whole didn't leave that much of an impact, but the main title theme for that show is one of the best I've ever heard
I saw the performance live because I was up in one of the Mezz Boxes and I can’t tell you how fun the awards were I swear the premiers were amazing and it was really fun seeing people 😍
I don't think it was manners as much as it was lack of appreciation. Some were impressed by his vocals, but that shot of bored faces at the end irritated me. They don't have to be into a thing to understand it was good, even great, for its genre.
My god, I feel like Hozier is the oldest soul on earth whom has been reincarnated and sings about his past life experiences… it’s unbelievable how beautiful his voice is. And bear is a genius in his own right, one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever heard. The lyrics in this song are devastating.
Like many people who beat God of War Ragnarok, I heard this song for the first time when the credits played. I remember seeing THAT scene at the optional end of the game and literally lifting the headphones off of my head and then hearing music going, "nope, let's hear it"... Look I love video game music, I listen to soundtracks a lot.. I was not expecting to be smacked up and down with HARD lyrics, a great orchestra, the hurdy gurdy as one of the main instruments and overall literally, LITERALLY sit in my chair just staring off into my room listening... Games and movies don't always do that. We're far too eager to just go, "oh, black screen and credits!? WELP!" and jump up and start posting to social media. No, this hit hard.
The best song to come out a video game, ever. This is my centering song. If I'm angry, sad, confused, etc. This is the song I play to bring me back. GOW is more than a video game. It's a story, fully immersive and loved by so many. When Brok died, I was honestly sad and close to shedding a tear.
