Short line railroading at its best! Cincinnati East Terminal Railway setting off cars in Sardinia Ohio and swapping empties for loads in Winchester Ohio. This branch line is leased from the Norfolk Southern Railroad and operated by Frontier Rail under their CCET line. Filmed May 22, 2017. I show how rusty the tracks were before the train came and then I show how shinny they got after it ran over them. Rusty rails are common on this end of the line due to the amount of precipitation and the infrequent trains. Thanks for watching! Please subscribe to Jawtooth for more great videos!!

I found the geography as interesting as anything else here. I have often visited Canal Winchester and did not know Winchester existed. Also, I have been to Mt Orab several times and I knew where Sardinia was but I don't know that many people have ever mentioned Mt Orab in videos. Takes me back 50 years.
@JawTooth
@JawTooth 7 лет назад
Not many people from Mt Orab post videos on here. I have the most and I have only been posting for almost 4 years. I use to own land next to this railroad line near Mt Orab but I sold it when they stopped running through trains. They now only go through Mt Orab as needed which is about twice a week if your lucky. Thanks for watching!

That train had to be going about 35 mph which is fast considering that there is no lights or gates at that crossing. You would think that on an unprotected crossing the maximum speed is about 15 or 20 mph. Essentially crawling along the tracks .

@georgeworley6927
@georgeworley6927 3 года назад
@@JawTooth thanks for the reply. Enjoy your videos. Enjoy an Ale 8 from time to time. A tour of the plant would be interesting. Live south of the Ohio River on the western side of Kentucky. All of the grocery stores near carry it. Even seen it in a couple of convenient stores. My grandfather worked for the L&N Railroad. One of my favorite things the arranged for me as a pre-teen is to get on an engine in the yard that was headed to the round house to be turned around and then hooked to 100 cars to be transported to Jackson, TN, about 70 miles away and I being on the train the whole way there and then being transfer to another train in Jackson for the return trip. No one was worried about any bad happening to me. I knew both engineers. The one on the return trip was related to me. I asked if I could ride in the caboose on the way back and was told yes. I don't if any laws were broken however my grandfather did work through L&N management to get permission to do the trip. He gave me a piece of paper that explained who I was and what I was doing on the train. No one ever asked for it. Wish I knew where it went. I almost decided to have a career with the railroad but I found computers in the 8th grade and went on to work at Johnson Space Center as a Computer Engineer. Even though I am retired now I still work on computers. Thanks for your videos as they bring back childhood memories.

They are not required since they don't run at night. If they can't see very far due to weather , then they are required to have them also. Sometimes they use them but it is rare. I have filmed them with the FRED and I have filmed them on rare night runs without one

On the last 2 shots of that train, there was an engine at each end. I'm guessing they put the end engine in neutral and walk to the other end and the same crew runs the train from the other engine. Jawtooth, am I right?
@JawTooth
@JawTooth 4 года назад
I think you are right
@johnpearce129
@johnpearce129 4 года назад
@@JawTooth Hi JT. Yes, they have done. And, there is a ritual for changing operating ends on a train. There can only be one brake valve in control, so several required steps to change over. It's way more than worth it because backing up that whole distance would just be way too difficult. Think of the poor brakeman hanging on to the end ladders and stirrup. Quite dangerous, I would think.
