I grew up an Astro fan, but Charlie Hustle was my idol, use to spike the ball after the 3rd out when I played first just like he did! Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson Will Never get into the Hall Of Fame, but that doesn't dimish there achievements in between the lines. Hope Rose knows that he influenced all the young boys of my generation to play the game, hard, just like he did!
Definitely one of the most iconic statues for any professional athlete. Well deserved. Pete Rose belongs in Cooperstown for his accomplishments on the field & MLB should offer the man some forgiveness before it's too late. That doesn't mean he didn't do anything wrong. He did...& yes, he agreed to the lifetime ban. But wouldn't forgiveness be the greater lesson here? Especially now, as he is approaching the end of his life? We all know what he did was wrong...everyone in baseball is aware. But forgiveness is what would be an eternal lesson for our children. Are you listening, MLB?
I did this slide once in a game and got reamed by my coach who said it was dangerous. The statue is a true representation of his hustle on the basepaths.
I was honored to be there that day, with my son. He saw the great players, that I had grew up idolizing as a kid. One of my best days, just being there with him and witnessing greatness. God bless the BRM and the Reds!
