Giants fan here. If Pete beat his wife, had an alcohol problem, did drugs or had a gambling addiction to anything other than baseball, he would be in the HOF. He made a mistake, but he's paid for it 20 times over. Pete Rose deserves to be in Cooperstown.
@bigj6143

Pete will not go to the Hall, he won't do it their way which is begging and pleading. Besides, baseball keeps referring to rehabilitation and Rose which no Commissioner has ever defined. When there is money involved like this there is no rules, no integrity, just a bunch of filthy rich bullshiters trying to get top dollar for a worn out form of sports entertainment. How many people have gone to a sporting event and said this price is reasonable? The only thing they don't charge you for is using the bathroom. Maybe they should then fans could take a shit on the field, stands, even on players.

Tim Johnson I have gone to a game and said this price was reasonable. Go to a rangers game in Texas, buy the Chilula( don’t know if that’s the right name) seats. Anywhere from 32-60$ for all you can eat, burgers, chicken,popcorn,hotdogs,nachos,peanuts,soda and ac. To be honest, those tickets are way to low for all you get. So don’t say everything is overpriced or you have to pay for everything. We didn’t pay for parking either, we just parked at six flags because we have free parking there.

I’m an Expos fan; and we got to lose to Pete’s Phillies in the playoffs in 1980, got to beat Pete’s Phillies in the playoffs in 1981 and had Pete in our lineup in 1985 for his 4,000th hit at home at the Big “O”. I don’t know that I agree with you on this one. I believe Pete should be in the HOF. Just listened to Johnny on Dan Patrick’s show, and he, Joe Morgan, and Tony Perez tried to negotiate with Peter Uberroth, who said if certain conditions weren’t met, he was out for life. They went to Pete, and he told em, “I’m gonna beat this.” And, he didn’t. Giamatti hung him out to dry. Which was his right as commissioner. I’m a lifelong Reds fan. Watched this lineup many times as a teenager and young adult. Respect all of them as the greatest players in my lifetime so far. This was one situation where Pete wasn’t gonna beat it, he should’ve admitted what he did, been an ambassador to the minors, telling them what gambling does to their career(tarnishes it for life) then, I personally believe he’d been reinstated by now and eligible for the HOF.

This is a good part of the Pete Rose Statue Ceremony because it has Reds announcer and Red players from 1960's, 1970's 1980's. 1990's and Reds players of today in dugout. Mostly it has the Fans. See, that is what smart aleck national cable sports media don't understand. Look at the hometown fans in this. These fans deserve this. Not everything ever in baseball happened in New York and Boston. OK, do you get that. The Fans of Cincinnati deserved this.
@frankanderson4113
@frankanderson4113 7 лет назад
Absolutely. So many so-called small market teams have an amazing tradition and have had some of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game. Cincinnati is second to none. They happened to be priveleged with a team in the mid-seventies that will always be in the conversation of greatest teams of all time. Pete Rose was just someone you didnt want to see as an opponent. I believe if Johnny Bench hadn't been injured and had surgery after his MVP campaign that there is no telling what he may have accomplished and he still went on to be a hall of fame. He was never the same after that injury. He may have posted 500 home runs and won several more MVP awards had he avoided injury. Cincinnati definitely has a history worth celebrating and it's so important that each new generation of fans is taught about the greats of days gone by.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him on April 8th in Virginia at the Dulles Expo Center. He really didnt talk much but i was number 77 in line so he was probally tired but he gladly signed my 1941 Reds hat and took a picture with me. He personally made the hat out to me. He wrote “Chris.. a great fan. Pete Rose” and smiled and shook my hand and that is something i will always be greatful to him for. He deserves to be in the MLB hall of fame. I met Pete Rose in March of 2019 at a signing event in Ft Lauderdale and he was so gracious. I was like a kid in Disney World. I said to him that I was so glad that in the country that I was born in Latin America baseball was the King Sport and that's how I got to be a fan of The Reds because that's the first team I rooted for in 1976 when I was 8 years old. So then he asked me where I was born and I said Nicaragua and then he goes "Dennis Martinez!" He signed me a baseball, an 8×10 photo with the inscription to my name and then he added "A Great Fan" and another 8x10 photo taken of me and him which he didn't have to. I'll never forget that day.

The weather was really hot and sticky, and the 2015 Reds lost by a huge margin, but it was great to be there. I think the Reds also honored other members of the 1975 and 1976 clubs who were there. I was a Jr Ranger living in Plano Tx outside of Dallas from 1975 to 1978, but the Reds were my favorite team by far. My best friend was 2 yrs older and his brother about 5 yrs older, and I did everything with their family. Even after moving to So CA I would go back every summer. They were a major sports family and would go to see Earl Campbell and Johnny Lam Jones at the Cottom Bowl etc, and in 1976 they went to see the Reds play the Astros in Houston and they stayed at the Marriot where the Reds were staying and got most of their autographs. I was damn jealous! 1976 was also my 1st yr in little league, and another friend of mines mom took us to see the Bad News Bears, and it's funny because I saw that movie recently for the first time since then and aside from the kids drinking beer in the dugout the movie is not that far fetched, and anyone who grew up playing football and baseball in the 70s would probably agree. There was NOT a lot of political correctness going on then and you could get your butt chewed by a coach or even another parent, and it didn't take much, but as much as that sucked at times I would take that over growing up in this candy assed politically correct marsh mellow world we live in today!

Great speech but kind of bothered me that he acknowledged 6 of his great 8 counterparts and didn't mention the great center fielder with a cannon of an arm, Cesar Geronimo.

Yes, put Pete Rose in the hall of fame, and #14 deserves to be in the hall, and all the time I go to Williamstown Wv To Parkersburg Wv I reflect on Pete Rose because his number was 14, and Rt 14 runs from Parkersburg to Williamstown and forks of the right at Williamstown while you turn left to go Marietta via the Williamstown Wv. BRIDGE.

Pete Rose made a mistake betting on baseball, no question. But he has paid the price more than enough. It's time for Pete to be in the Hall of Fame. He played the game harder than anyone. He's the all time MLB Hits Leader and he more than earned his place with baseballs greatest. I'm a life long Yankees fan, over 60 years, and It is time for Pete ! ⚾️⚾️⚾️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Pete should refuse if the hall ever tries to have him come in. He does not need a bust in the hall, he has a bust in the heats of all of the tristate, as a kid playing baseball in the 90's I used to run like a deer. My coach said you remind me of Charlie hustle. As a young kid I asked my dad a Pittsburgh native and pirates fan what that meant he said son it is about the greatest complement you can receive as a baseball player. Like I said no need to be in a building this guy is in our hearts.

At age 75 and watching 70 years of tremendous memories , i have given up on MLB not baseball I havent seen anything that wants me to renew my contract Perhaps put Pete Rose back where he belongs , renew my trust in a game with honesty , and make the players earn their right to be involved in who what they represent , Pete Rose made mistakes and has been punished enough

6:07 well considering that they’re first in their division, got a record of 50-41, and they got the best player in the League with Elly De La Cruz, I can quite confidently say that the Reds may have a phenomenal season!!!! You were right, Rose. You were right.
