Just to clarify, I think the first dress is meant to be the Act II transformation costume from the 2013 Broadway version, AKA the hideous dress loaned to Ella by Gabrielle, the nice step sister. The stepmother catches her trying to go to the banquet, and rips off pieces of the gown, which is why the guy is seen in the back ground, snatching off the skirt. It's supposed to be ugly and ill fitting!
The good ones (not this) use flexible crinolines to let the fabric drape and give the dress unexpected volume. This dress looks like they took another dress and figured out how to hide a bunch of bedsheets in it.
People complaining about how ugly its like before. And I'm over here like you know that's the point right? it's a dress for a play of CINDERella you know the whole transformation into a beautiful dress scene? God's people stop complaining.
On the first gown the transformation left some wire sticking out in back. The tearaway dress seemed too bulkyvand awkward. The cloak was not simple and looked over powering.
